    Hello sir, it's me again. I made one of this antenna and it was a success. Got it to 1.2/1.3 swr and made a contact 30km / 19 miles on simplex using my vintage Icom IC-02AT with 4 watts output and the antenna was just hanging at only 4 feet above the ground for testing. Truely amazing. Again, thank you so much and all the best to you and your family.

    Hi Ian, Keith, WB2VUO near Buffalo, NY. I discovered the Flowerpot vertical a few years back on VK2ZOI's web page. Following his instructions, I built models for 6 meters, 2 meters and 1.3 meters. I have had very good results with all of them, and even replaced a commercial 6 meter vertical with the Flowerpot. It's great on FT8 and I run a local SSB net with that antenna. Keep building and I will be looking forward to more videos!

    It looks like you have some reactance in the circuit (x).
    Reactance is a type of opposition to electrical flow, or resistance, that occurs in alternating current (AC) circuits.
    Ideally, you want that as close to zero as possible. You may want to try to add a cap and try to cancel that out for efficiency

    I've carried out tests with a Quansheng UV-K5 (8) on both bands using the standard antenna, a genuine Nagoya antenna, and a Diamond antenna. In all cases, the standard antenna outperformed the other two longer antennas. That actually surprised me.
    The test was carried out as scientifically as I could perform, with a dummy load connected to the receiver. The transmit was 6m away in a static location through the test.

    • @FantaBH
      @FantaBH 2 місяці тому +2

      Quansheng uv-k5 have one issue with custom antennas like it is J pole, diamond, closed dipole or any other type of antenna which indeed have short circuit at 100Khz., Physically all antenna mentioned in my post are short circuit measured with simple ohm meter. That actually makes quansheng does not get any Rx or very poor with allot of noise. While it do Tx very well and TX significantly outperform it's standard antenna. It's is all about how quansheng is built. It need some hardware modification in order to accept all type of DIY antennas. Well what antenna will work with quansheng , are classic dipole , GP type , or any other type of antenna which does not have physically presented short circuit measured with classic ohm meter. This all was tested yesterday with my quansheng uv-k5(8). Had friends on Viber while was testing new self made dual band J pole. They could hear me with very strong signal , however I could not hear them. At same place , on roof 30m above surface, with standard antenna they could hear me way worst than with J-pole but with difference that I could hear them as well. So we started with search what is wrong. NanoVNA could not detect any issue with J-pole. Then one of friend said, cut ground use only middle wire. I did that and guess what, They could hear me quite stonger than with classic antenna but as well I could hear them . Conclusion from more then one man who knows this job, is quansheng does not accept antennas like it is j-pole or any other which represent short circuit measured with classic ohm meter

      @johnharrison373 2 місяці тому +1

      @@FantaBH This is not the experience I have had. I made a j-pole antenna to work on 70cm and tested it with the Quansheng UV-K5 (8). I got better results over an 8 mile (13 kilometre) distance, both RX and TX, using the j-pole antenna than the standard antenna.

      The 2m version should be OK on it's third harmonic, but will most likely be out of the band slightly. Mine 2m version is resonant at 458.300mhz, just a bit high. There is a simple enough fix, and it works. you make the antenna the same way as shown, but with a few more simple steps and it becomes a dual band antenna.

    • @ianxfs
