In this video we travel to the 2022 Contemporary Longrifle Association Annual show to meet with friends and some of the best artists of Contemporary Longrifle culture. While I try to film every table and incude as many tables in the video as I can, at the end of the day I can only fit so many. Check out my full channel for clips from the show as well as highlights featuring individual displays and exhibits.
The organization defines its mission as a collaborative effort of its members dedicated to preserving the tradition of the contemporary longrifle, related accoutrements and art forms created after the mid-twentieth century.

The organization was founded in 1996. A group of 47 founding members joined the CLA in 1997, a Board of Directors was formed that year and the CLA held its first annual show and meeting was held in July of that year at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio. Today, the CLA has more than 2,000 members and holds its annual meeting and 350 table show at the Lexpo Convention Center in Lexington, KY in August of each year.

I have lived in PA my entire life. Flintlock Muzzleloaders are big in PA because we still hunt with them. We have a flintlock only season for deer. The season starts the day after Christmas and lasts for about a month. Personally l don't hunt with modern rifles and only go flintlock hunting. Love that smoke.

I caught a glimpse of Ian's Dutch Delft painted gun at 10:11. That one is my favorite of all the painted guns.

It sure is Randie, but I've been to north Idaho a couple times and tell everyone east of the Mississippi that they need to see it at least once in their lives. I'd encourage you to make a trek back to old Kentucky sometime for this show..😉

Great job, Ethan! It was nice to meet you and talk at the bbq and the show. I take a lot of photos at CLA, but amazing how well a short video can really capture the up-close details and share with the viewer what it's like to be there. Thanks for what you do.

Been waiting for your video of the show. Outstanding! I was thrilled to see my display shown. It was great to meet you. My first time as an exhibitor but not the last. I will also be at the Ohio Gun Collectors Muzzleloader Invitational on November 19 & 20 at The Roberts Center near Wilmington, Ohio. Unfortunately to attend you either have to be a member or invited guest.

I like your short rifle. What a steal! Cap and ball has a nice video on very short rifles used for hunting in Europe from horseback.

My wife says you're a bad influence 😂 and I need to stop watching your videos! It started with a horn, then your hawken bag pattern, now you have me wanting to build a rifle and go all the way from Pittsburgh to Knoxville. Seriously though, i really like your channel. I wasn't able to be there but at least i can live vicariously through your videos.

Gosh the stock carving ability is just amazing on some of those rifles. I think I’ll ask for a wood carving kit for Veterans Day and then practice on my Thompson hawken.
    Great video as always man!

The short rifle you have there would be called a blanket gun. A concealed carry weapon, hidden under something while sleeping or on horse back. Not to look like a pistol a little mare scary. A personal defensive weapon, more for the frontier woman to keep close, who might not like a pistol, but quick to use. These would be cut down as the rifle or shot gun was damaged in some way, the end stock broken, barrel bent, who knows. Some like the piece you have there, looks to have be purpose built. Usually the rear of the stock would also be cut down/off but not always. The Cushman back action lock looks to be original, English made from the 1840's trade era. That is a deal at twice the price.

Ian, I just got my 2 times grandfathers old muzzleloader and I am looking for any information about my rifle. It's a Henry barrel about 36 inches long, short stock with what I think are proof marking on the barrel. I am told it was carried in the Civil War. I would really like to shoot it and then someday pass it on to the next generation. I have been looking online but can't seem to find any pictures of what I am looking for. Rick

Did you see any rifles made by a man named Lonnie Macmillan.he was showing me a southern long rifle he had made from a piece of black walnut .it was a .45 cal. Percussion rifle .it was as pretty as a speckled pup.he was a old hunting buddy of my stepdad.and he was heading back home ,and dropped by to visit a spell,I had just stopped by to visit as well .I had been turkey hunting over in Walkers big mountain,so I stopped by to tell my stepdad of some bear sign I had found ,he dearly loved hunting bears with his hounds .Mr.Macmillian was eating because if you stop by my mother's house, you will eat afore you can leave.and mom will pack you a bait of grub. To go with you as well.. 😂

please when filming stay in focus. you pan over things that people would like to see so fast and out of focus or the item are not in frame. or you got so close to see a detail that you lost how that detail contrasted with the object.
