Love this. I feel like all of this stuff is both unique/new, but has that familiar weirdness that your fanbase (including me) adore. A “whole-ass vibe” as they say. Can’t wait for musical manifestations to uhhhh…manifest. Proud of you and your work, captain.
for some reason, the idea of Mason Lindroth taking like a few years of social media blackout, only to return with a feature length Hylics film or something of that nature sounds really fun
Aaah there's something about your style that just resonates so much with me. The way each model also pulsates under their careful animation, legit amazing work.
I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out, but this is some of the strangest yet most enthralling music I’ve ever heard. It’s so lonely and alien, while also being bittersweet and melancholic. It’s like attending a funeral on mars
have you ever had a dream where you just inexplicably know what it's about? It sounds like going to bed with clogged sinuses and having a dream about a casketless funeral full of people doing handstands and somersaults and juggling.
I don't know the name of the technique, but I love that cross-sectional thing you did with a couple of these. I remember seeing some claymation stuff on... I think MTV or Liquid Television that used that technique, and I gotta say it's so cool, and I love your take on it. EDIT: Apparently it's called Strata-cut animation. I was thinking of the opening of MTV's Idiot Box.
I love how your art seems to invoke such a vague and abstract sense that these creatures are alive, but it's so incredibly uncanny that it really makes you question their sentience. Awesome work man.
I could see all of these guys being mid-to-endgame foes in a quirky-but-horrifying, Earthbound-esque RPG. Edit: Never mind. They ARE foes from a quirky-but-horrifying, Earthbound-esque RPG.
You know what was the most surprising thing to me when I looked at the new models for the original Hylics enemies? I never realized the Monoops was meant to be a lady. The more you know.
I love the Hylics "creatures" desing, they are weird but not terrifying, very unreal and they had similar things to a human ,objects or insects. but in the same time the way that they move and how unreal is they body makes you feel weird(?), trying to assimilate what the hell is that and why he looks so similar to a human or a insect in some aspects, you dont even know if they are a threat or not, they are just walking over there making weird moves, almost like creatures or humans from another dimension, amazing work.
@@Dragon_named The vídeo is very relaxing ngl, but am talking about the desing of the creatures, not the vídeo, just imagine walking in a forest and see one of those creatures, weird asf.
ur character designs remind me of sensibilities from the Codex Seraphinianus with how much detail is put into how each one moves and seems to function, and taking it to the next level, like they're on three planes of dimensions above or something or other. nostalgic is putting this all mildly
You’re doing what every artist dreams of doing, just staying true to yourself. You are truly a talented figure and have inspired me and likely many many others.
Really worried on how the new Unity fee thing will affect Mason's new game. Really hate how John Riccitiello and IronSource only thought about money rather than the myriad of indie games being made in their engine.
Loved seeing these show up periodically on my timeline. How you managed to combine both claymation styles from the Hylics duology is beyond me, but it looks great
YAY MORE ART TO STUDY!!!! the way everything is shaded is so cool,im really trying to understand how its done and i got that theres always a black thin outline, sometimes used wholly, other times, with little dots, and then theres 2 subtones. Now i need to figure out how those are picked. Also bc theyre made of clay its a bit hard to replicate the smoothness of it,but for now its been fun learning,so thanks for that!
I love your work, Mason. You make me wish there was a catalog of all your animations in gif form. I don't even have a good use for them, I'd just like to have em because they're neat.
Amazing animations and synth music! It's super cool to see the stratacut that looks like a diving fish composited into the style now. 1:01 Lullaby is in tears, aww my poor dude...
I played Muldulamulom today and I was surprised how much of it went into the "Xeno Arcadia" sections of Hylics 2. I actually really like that it's a callback for those who know about it but also a really cool and original sidescroller for those who haven't played it yet.
I don't know if you enjoy dwelling on any one creation too long but seriously though, hylics was great and you knocked it out of the park with the second title. Congrats overall and I look forward to more creations I can interact with from ya someday.
There is something about the colors and textures of these designs that remind me of my childhood, but i don't know why, i can't exactly pinpoint what is it that they remind me of, maybe a graffiti i saw in one street near my childhood home, i don't know, anyway, they feel alien and at the same time close to home, calming and unnerving, i can't explain it.
Never found this channel before but I saw just the thumbnail and instantly figured that you must be the animator for Hylics, lol. It’s a distinctive style!
Mason, your work is truly unsettling, beautiful and awesome all at the same time. I take great inspiration from your works of art, and seeing more be on display brings me joy! I cannot wait for the third instalment to come out.
Beautiful combination of crispy retro graphics and organic shapes and soft movement. Loved the cross-sections too - evokes an image of a lab researching alien biology. Really cool work!
Your work and aesthetics always made me feel a certain way. I can't explain it. Same way I feel about old x-ray photos, brutalist buildings, great distances, 3am tv static. It's like uncanny, alien and almost hostile, but at the same time-- familiar and nostalgic.
There's something very calming about seeing these surreal, dreamlike designs in motion, especially when you do such a good job at making their movements feel natural!
Wow. Those stratocuts are gorgeous. Love seeing the Hylics 1 enemies in motion! The music is also lovely and mesmerising. I just adore your work Mason, there's nothing quite like it.
I love Hylics and Hylics 2. I'm so happy to see more of your claymation and music. All of these animations look amazing and the music is surreal and chill.
one of my favorite things about Hylics 2 is how your enemies jump and dance around like theyre having a good time, i mean this in general as hylics 2 and hylics 3 (when it realeses ofc)
the 3 characters at 0:54 are absolutely surreal to see in motion, fantastic job on this overall but holy hell the motion of those feathers combined with the small moving details of the other two figures comes together to look incredibly impressive
Observing the odd fellows captured in this piece of video is like taking deep sea fish and artifacts out of the water and watching them dry up. Things may move in odd ways, but they still look reasonable.
This is so dope. The animations have become smoother and as always your mind is an endless well of creativity and inspiration, Mason. My favourite creature was the middle one at 00:54. I also really like the Gibby- and Wayne-like creatures. For some reason this collection of animations make me think of the theme of decay. If some of these are tied to a next project, I wonder what the theme will be?
Man I just love watching your animations. It's haunting, soothing, and beautiful all at once. The music also does a phenomenal job helping to express this!
Holy crap, if I could afford it, I would hire you to make animations for a horror game. Like, seriously, this incredibly unique and intriguing work-it has an air of eeriness about it and it’s oddly disturbing… yet, it’s far too visually compelling to look away. Well done, this is outstanding work!

I like it when he makes them dance :)
seeing some of the enemies from hylics 1 with animations puts a big smile on my face
Nice profile pic 🤘
I'm absolutely enthralled. I want to wake up in a world of these creatures with this soundscape.
enter hylics
Play Hylics, mason’s game.
Are you fucking sure dude lmao I'd go absolutely insane 😂
You'd have to be in a constant state of high to not go insane in the first few weeks
Just drop some acid and listen to King Crimson, basically the next best thing
Hylics creatures are the peak of fever dream design ever. Somewhat unsettling yet serene at the same time.
for some reason, the idea of Mason Lindroth taking like a few years of social media blackout, only to return with a feature length Hylics film or something of that nature sounds really fun
Creatures that, while alien and original, still are expressive and relatable, some of them I might even call a friend
The old hylics enemies in your new style is pure gold
Aaah there's something about your style that just resonates so much with me. The way each model also pulsates under their careful animation, legit amazing work.
Noticing some Hylics 1 enemies in here. It's so cool to see how they probably would have looked in the H2 style.
Hylics 1 is probably my favorite game of all time, I'm so happy to see it's monsters get some love
I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out, but this is some of the strangest yet most enthralling music I’ve ever heard. It’s so lonely and alien, while also being bittersweet and melancholic. It’s like attending a funeral on mars

HYLICS 3?! 🔥🔥🔥
Chuck does a great job with music, but I do miss your dreamy, alien-like audioscapes when you work solo. Great stuff.

babe wake up new mason lindroth dropped
It reminds me of surrealism artists like Zdzisław Beksiński, david lynch, brothers quay or Jan Švankmajer. i really love your work!
Im gonna have to check those guys out.
For someone who doesn't know about Hylics, this may even look scary! But for us, it's so beautiful and awakens so much hype for the 3rd Hylics game!
I immediately wondered if this was the person that made hylics and I was right. Really unique art style, love your work
his style is so distinct, bro, it's unreal!
wonderful to see these all compiled in one place!!! adore the music as well!!
At 0:42 I like that some of these characters look like fossil organisms; that’s practically an Odontogriphus on the left there. Really cool animation!

your stuff always has a feeling of 70s surrealist scifi to me, very classic vibes but also so wild and out-there and shapes never seen before
I especially get this vibe from the TV animations in the first game.
Oh wait a sec, those first few enemies were from hylics 1! I recognise the cone lads from anywhere!
Everything about these is so beyond gorgeous. I hope to be as half as skilled as you are someday. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
