You cannot make more than one group chat with exactly the same people. You would need to add another person or remove a person to make a separate conversation.
How do I make a permanent group? I want a pickleball group. I want to add people as it grows. I want to tap “new message” select “Pickleball Group” and so it populates the entire group automatically - like Android has had for many years - then I make a message and send.
They changed the deal with my iPhone 11 Pro- now > tap Message>tap "pencil in the square paper"> This will go to the old system with the + (add person) showing. Took me weeks to get it.

I think this has been changed on newer IOS versions. The ability to add people to an existing chat, name a group and assign an icon or image have been removed on iOS 16.5
My iphone 6 does not have a place to "change name and photo." So I couldn't do it. But I was able to put in a group name was to start with a name of the group such as 'The Guys' and then follow it with the names of the members.

No they don't have to be in your contacts! You can type in someone's phone number rather than their contact name in that case.

Once you create the group, the group will remain in your messages unless you delete it.
My iphone won't create a group name when I tap on it. Is it because a person has an android phone?
Yes if someone in the group has an Android device you may not be able to add a name for your group

Yes Siri can send messages to groups for you if you request that.

I tried and it does not work. No such feature to name group or assign photo etc. Maybe it worked on older iPhones and older iOS
If someone in your group is using an Android device you will not have the option to name your group. This is for iMessage specifically

For those wondering, you can’t change your group chat name if one or more of the members in the group chat are not using IPhones.

Your iPhone may be too old to run the newest software updates so the options could be slightly different.
