this is the one time we accept that there was a innuendo left on the table and you did not have a follow up line. We all know Dermot was telling you to get it in your mouth, but with durian involved, we accept that even the gods would not have a follow up joke for that one.
They need to include you in the next trip to American for having to endure that.

I like durian if I’m in the mood. It smells bad, true. But I buy the actual fruit that is frozen. Defrost it and scrape the flesh from the huge seed pods. It’s creamy and interesting tasting. Though a little goes a long way. Lol

vile? Durian doesn't taste bad. Even the smell aren't that bad. Imagine exotic cheese that taste lovely but less smelly than a typical blue cheese
Durian is so terrible! I feel so badly for the tryers when it comes out that I don't even find it funny. My husband (born in Hong Kong, grew up in Canada since age 10) didn't like durian as a kid, but somehow has acquired that vile acquired taste. He's not allowed to eat it in my house, though - and if it was all my choice he wouldn't be allowed to eat in in this country (US). He can have it when he goes to visit his mom in Canada. 300 mile minimum buffer between me and durian!
The last time he had durian here I didn't know. There was a horrible stench coming from a room off the family room we didn't use much. I went around trying to find out what it was and I thought we had a gas leak. I kept telling him that and he kept telling me I was imagining it. I was about to call the gas company when he finally confessed that he had eaten durian and gone into that room and farted a bunch - hence the exponentially worse smell. Durian farts are nearly as bad as straight durian!

If there's ever a massive Durian shortage in Thailand, I'm just going to assume Justine lit all of the fields/orchards/gaping hell mouths from whence they came on fire.
Next durian video, have Justine surrounded by Ciara, Paddy, and Lena; the three who don't mind durian.
Paddy's granddaughter there was a real trooper for sure.
One of these days Sean is going to put real human jerky on the table and Justine will happily pop it in her mouth screaming, "At least it's not durian!"

Justine is right in saying it had a "horse radishy taste" with the wasabi peas because 9 times out of 10 when you order something that has 'wasabi' with it like sushi they just give you horse radish with green food coloring.
Also wasabi is a family member of European horse radish.
There's never any real Wasabi in it. Its always mustard and horseradish. But that's ok it's delicious.
With the minimum amount of Wasabi to allow them to put it on the label.

I spent over four years in the Philippines and would not go to any open market. I can smell cut durian from blocks away and the repugnant odor was like a wall. Justine's reactions to this fruit of Satan are right on par with mine. I can tell you there is no exaggeration there.

Justine is an absolute beast. Despite the number of times she's previously endured the torment of trying durian snacks, she still went through with trying this one. I think next time Thai foods are tried, she gets to skip the durian items. Sher's earned the reprieve.

At this point, if you didn't have Justine, would it even be a Durian taste test? Also, Dermot with the teasing constantly on the "safe" foods and keeping her on edge is great.

Everyone was GREAT in this video! You could really tell the look on the faces of those who have done this longer... My Uncle has the same look when he thinks about his tour of duty in the Vietnam War. The newer tryers handled it like champs! Lena in particular is just so positive, bubbly and adorable... She has not witnessed the true horrors of TRY, lol. Also, apparently Durian is to Justine as peanut butter is to Dermot - guaranteed double watch for me!

I had my first durian "experience" a few years back while in Singapore. It was in ice cream and I knew something was up when my dinner companions all got their cameras out before I took my first bite. I made it about 2 bites in and I was done. I remember thinking, who wants ass flavored ice cream. 🤣
They were selling whole durian at a local open market later on that same trip and you could smell it a couple of blocks away. It's no wonder that it's illegal to carry it openly in a subway without a bag. At least that was the case at the time.
I think we need an all star cast for durian only foods. Paddy, Ciara, the brothers,Darren, and Colin.

My personal durian story: 1996, I was in the Philippines. My mom got a fresh durian fruit and was super excited to eat it. My sisters and I demanded she eat it on the balcony of our hotel because the smell was so bad. Didn’t help at all. Our dad described it as smelling like old, used socks. Accurate.
In Indonesia it is Banned in hotels.
I was stationed in Thailand with the US Air Force in the early to mid 1970's. I have always loved trying different kinds of fruits during my travels and Thailand had some really great ones. However, the first time I smelled a durian, I almost lost my lunch and refused to even try it. At least Justine tried it .. and thank you for that, young lady - your reaction(s) made my day.

8:40 Yes, that is quite accurate. Durian has the aroma of B.O. and it's hard to escape. I always thought there could be a culinary method to bypass it,..but nobody has discovered it yet.
