For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted all of chapters 80 and 81. Some interesting bits of trivia for this episode: the scene where Sverkel talks about his and Ketil’s past is an anime original addition, in the manga after Arnheid questions whether she should go see Gardar again or not, Servkel just responds with saying he won’t blame Arnheid and that it’s her choice to make, while also apologizing that he can’t do anything to help her. There’s also an extra line of dialogue in the manga where Arnheid elaborates that the invaders/pillagers took (i.e. killed directly or by simply abandoning infants/children to the elements to perish i.e. infant exposure) her son from her so they could sell Arnheid for a higher price as an “unmarried” woman.
@@gnomeimporta6912 It was a weak justification though. In the end there's no right answer but in this case it wasn't worth it. Part of the reason they did it was because of Norse culture.
was rewatching the OP and realized the battle for Kettle's farm is going to go crazy, Snake taking Jomsvikings down like their civilians and thorfin contemplating whether to fight or not... can't wait to see a conversation with Canute and Thorfin
I'm pretty sure it's Ketil's farm, I could be wrong but his dad even questioned what the point of owning a farm so large that 1 man can't defend was. So I'm guessing he owns his one plot of land or whatever, and the rest is all Ketil's. But then again idk
@Trashthlete don't know tbh the comment didn't clarify. My brother's a history buff and he said if he had to guess its because Snake's weapon is pretty distinctly non-European and the Varangian's operated with the Byzantine Empire. Its not exactly concrete evidence but theres a suggestion that he got the sword from somewhere around Asia which would line up. The theories ive seen are mostly just vague what-if stuff but its cool nonetheless lol
Bear in mind that after Thorfinn heard about what happened to Arnheid & her son, to me it felt like he was thinking; " I picked the wrooong day to quit."🤣 You know when he got so tense. The only man that stands between Arnheid & Gardar's freedom is Snake himself and that made me want to see where the story goes from here. Thorfinn & Einar will be free men soon so they no longer have a good reason to fight for Ketil. All I'm waiting for is a duel between Thorfinn & Snake. They better make it happen!
@Red Turtle Wrong. He only killed men and wasn’t able to defend their families all by himself. All he cared about in the past was his shot at winning a duel and getting his revenge. Just because Einar is innocent, that doesn’t mean he’s the only one not thinking about killing someone. As a matter of fact, Thorfinn would kill again to protect his friends. If that’s what it takes.
@@o.m.a.r3311 You vastly misunderstood the series then. In the past, he directly allowed the death and destruction of many normal families similar to Hild's. Even if he didn't directly do it himself. He has said so himself, and we have seen it ourselves. And no, he has made it explicitly clear that he doesn't want to kill anymore no matter what.
@@beyondviolet I don’t think he should be simping over a woman that doesn't really feels the same way and I belive Arnheid pushing 40, he should get someone around his age.

damn the anime original additions made it clearer
I see you on every Vinland Saga reaction channel eps you the MVP fr!! 😭
we appreciate your efforts into writing this 🙏🏼
bro i just have to say one thing your the mvp 👑
Viking society makes men believe fighting in battle and for something you don’t NEED is more important than staying with your family. Its sad
And unfortunately that quality wasn't/isn't something solely unique to Nordic society and culture.
They literally explained in the episode how somebody else taking that swamp and ore would effect them directly for the worse. Are you daft?
@@gnomeimporta6912 fr gardar just wanted his wife and son to live a good life at the end of the day
They fought so another group wouldn’t get too powerful and end up attacking them anyway

😂 typical rttv rooting for the cool slave enforcer(snake) instead of the slave trying to be free 💀

Saw a comment that said that Snake's sword implies he used to be part of the Varangian guard. If that's not cap that would explain why he's so nasty

@Trashthlete oh huh fair enough. Im just going off what that one comment said lol, guess it was cap after all
@Trashthlete because he knows classic greek since the bible in that time period was not translated in any norman languages
@Trashthlete every google search points that the translations for Scandinavian languages occurred in 1300-1500 and the show is in like 1000s
@Trashthlete still same dates for those languages as well just google it man
5:50 the way I gasped when they agreed with the men lol

He was feeling guilt, because he did similar things to so many people without thinking twice.

Just hope that Einar doesn't turns into a stepfather
Why not? Would be a good thing for him I think.
@@gijskerkhof1294 Well under the assumption he gets with Arnheid, she'd definitely give him his own child as well
