I’m not an expert but I’m curious if it would be advantageous to use 2 smaller motors in tandem, like two 75’s for example. It may more evenly disperse the weight and engine torque more evenly. Btw, did I mention I seriously need to discuss a business proposition with you asap ?
Instead of mounting the outboard on the transom you could construct a motor well in the engine compartment for your outboard, that would help with the balance issue
Hi! This is Denise, the one you originally contacted to buy the Itty Bitty. We are so excited to see you rebuilding my Dad’s boat! We will be following your progress. My father loved it, used to spend nights on the water. I’m so happy you got it!
Since you are already in pretty deep on this one, I think you should consider lowering the rear deck to where the old motor mounts were, eliminating the step up from the inside. This will give you a little rear deck to fish off of or barbeque on. The transom could then be lowered a bit to hang the outboard off of.
I agree, especially when it's going outboard plus it helps some with lowering the center of gravity and leaves room for any ballast considerations going forward. With the outboard decision being somewhat dynamic and not really considered yet (kind, size and how many) he might have to keep some balance a bit more flexible till other key decisions are made.
I have built boats and must say, the "Itty- Biti" is starting to shape up. Don't get in a hurry, for you don't want to cover up your wiring routes, hose access, etc.7, Overall, I say Bravo to AYO!!!!! LOOKIN' good!!

Out of all the channels I watch. You are the Leader of anticipation. I can't wait for the next video to come out and see the progress of the itty bitty, yet I just finished your last video 10 secs ago.
This is legitimately my favorite series on youtube and love to see every update video. You and gravy inspired me to buy my first rod and reel for the first time since I was a kid. Please let us know ways to throw a couple bucks your way and help with this project (stickers or magnets in addition to shirts would be great)!
Ah, a nice Ford 302! One of my favorite engines! In one of my humble opinions, one of the most reliable engines Ford made. But I get it, Outboards are easy.
Stick with it man! I love your content. The “struggle “ with the Itty Bitty is a great balance for the craziness you pull in some of your other videos.
Your humor has helped me to remember to try to enjoy my projects even when it's excruciating. I know you have times when your mindset is challenged by this. Thanks for keeping it light. You're a good role model for how to make these kinds of things rewarding no matter what happens.
Funny what you said about inboard/outboard motors. I never understood why my dad was so opposed to having anything but an outboard, and I think I now understand. Keep on going! I’m so excited to see how it turns out!
I love all your boat repair content it's really unique and fun to follow the progression!!!! Don't worry you'll be pulling Fat Sally's from the deck of The Itty Bitty soon enough and it will all be worth it!!!! Thanks for the great content!!!
I used to get up on Sunday mornings and browse craigslist and boat trader for old houseboats. There but for the grace of God go I! Thanks for taking this one for the team.
One thing I did learn after years working on the water. It nice to have a bracket or bar to protect an outbound motor too. Makes reverse less stressful when you can't see the motor.
Out of the 57 people Im subscribed to, your my second favorite youtuber. 100%. I love your videos and look forward to them. Will you please have Davey in more videos? Like all of them. You guys are the ultimate pair. Anyway. IttyBitty is looking sweet.
Hanging an outboard is the way to go, easy to up/down grade motors, easy access for repair/maintenance. generally for every foot you set back, you can raise the motor one inch. You open up the rear of the boat. By setting the motor back, you are making the boat longer which should give a much better ride. Between the motor and bracket, mount a jack plate, raise and lower motor as needed
@@p_campbell ,,you are not looking at a speed boat. putting that boat up on plane and banging into waves is going to tear it apart. Operating the boat like a trawler will keep fuel cost down and go a long way to preserving the structure. A 150 will probably push it to hull speed.

Dang that itty bitty!!! Love your channel!!! You inspire mine and glad to see you blowing up!! Been watching your old video from back when you were under 50k
Looking good! If that I/O motor is an "Iron Duke" I wouldn't hesitate to go through it and slap it back into the itty bitty. It takes a heck of a lot to kill one and they are dirt simple to work on.
I love your snake wrangling skills, very impressive! If the house boats rocking, don't come knocking! Things are really starting to come together AYO, soon you'll be ripping across the water!
My 17 ton steel boat uses 35 horsepower to move at the river speed limit. A nice 50 horse outboard on a jack plate will shift a lightweight boat like Itty Bitty very nicely. Hybrid drive is interesting. Running a generator sited wherever, and electric drive motor. With a good battery set you get power for all domestic functions A/C, fridge, induction hob, oven, coffee, the works. Can even use it at home during power outages.
Good decision on going with an outboard! Once you get the top done, you may want to check the hull for any bubbles. Old fiberglass boats have problems with the gel coat separating from the fiberglass. The gel coat becomes a sponge and starts to rot. To fix this problem, you will need to grind off the gelcozt till you see fiberglass. Depending how thick your fiberglass, you may need to spray it with chopped fiberglass and then epoxy the hull for the final barrier. Then paint it with liquid death. I forgot the name of the paint, but its made to insure there is no growth (barnacles or seaweed) on your hull
Just a reminder from previous comments on previous videos, to use pressure-treated lumber not dry pine! At the very least put a waterproof sealant on the lumber you already used.
Yes I agree, one outboard; maybe a 200hp Yamaha. Bob's machine jack plate, and strengthen that transom, and that should do it. Use a 5-bladed prop, or twin props for more thrust! Another point to consider, is furniture built in, tables, beds, kitchen, shower, etc, those items and layout, need to be carefully thought out and weighed, so that YOU can control the CG of the boat in the end. Outboard, should not matter then...
Don't forget that that big heavy engine that you pulled out is not only good for ballast but also for balance.. make sure your weight and displacements are correct before slipping it back into the water.
My family looked into getting a boat and we had an option to go with a Mercury 115 or 150 and all the mechanics we talked to told us 150’s are always in the shop and they use around 50% more gas for 4-6 miles faster 115 cheaper and way more reliable love the content

100% agree with an outboard - it also would free up so much space. A lot of big boats in Florida have special brackets for multiple outboard installations so Iddy Biddy is an easy job! Great project and video bro
Awesome videos! That’s quite the task you took on for a first timer. I took on a 1977, 40’ Harbor Master for my first one and I wish I would’ve recorded my renovation and put out there for everyone to learn from my mistakes. Took me almost 2 years and $25,000 but we love our houseboat and I know every inch of the boat and every wire on it. That kind of information is priceless when your boat starts to have problems because you know exactly where to go to fix it. Anyways, I know you have some rewiring coming up in your future and I’m not sure if you’re going to do both AC and DC electrical, but I wanted to let you know of a company out of Canada and all their videos that are on UA-cam that will help you do the job right the first time. I stumbled onto their videos while I was doing my boat and I’m extremely thankful I did. I feel pretty confident that my boats probably one of the best rewired boats on the water where we are. All the videos are posted by a guy named Jeff and he works for Pacific Yacht Systems Inc. Good luck on the rest of your restoration and I look forward to many of your videos going forward.
Iv'e wondered the same. Power layout needs to be planned. I owned a Steury and everything was 110v off of a converter. Fridge, Microwave, RV A/C unit and a TV. Had eight 12v batteries. Inboard motor with a huge ambulance alternator for charging. Shore power also of coarse. Not just power management but water as well. We were able to use tank water, shore water or lake water.
What are you going to love and appreciate more: the boat you just rolled up to the dealership and bought, or the boat you put your blood, sweat, and tears into? Keep it up man. Best series on UA-cam.
What would be cheaper is a direct drive with a kick-up rudder on the back. You could make the rudder, the running hardware, and the stuffing tube yourself for under $200 if you already have a motor. That's what we did with our cabin cruiser 6 years ago and it's still going like a champ using a junkyard motor.
I know some people who did this with their houseboats. One had a small 4-cyl engine (no idea what model), one had a Chevy 350 (big boat), one had a small diesel (VW Rabbit maybe), don't know about the others. None regretted their decisions as they could get parts from O'Reilly type stores and quite a few people can work on those engines.

Brother I just started watching your videos maybe a week ago I can now say I've watched every single one of your videos from the start to now and after watching UA-cam since the beginning of the start of UA-cam I have to say your content has to be the best on UA-cam the boat build and the davy gravy content has to be the best videos on this platform thank you for giving me something that makes me laugh feel your sadness when something goes wrong just the absolute best videos a person can watch thanks AYO you are my favorite UA-camr personality I will be a long time supporter
Since you're freeing up the back deck, you could frame in a bathroom on the side without the ladder and a grill on the other side to cook fish and keep the living space livable smell wise
Put an outboard and a kick plate on it. You don't need speed and the old engine bay can become good storage space. Try to stay with a 2 stroke. You get 2 times the RPMs for 1/2 the weight. Are you going to blue foam the walls inside ?
A lot of the plywood can be replaced with xps foam. Its lighter (for displacement and towing) and very hardy. About same price as ply. You can use cheaper pmf over the foam in some parts instead of glass if $ is an issue. Give it a look.
I love your channel Ayo. Thank you for getting me back in touch with fishing. I caught my first fish when I was 3 years old. My dad handed me his reel and I guess I just started reeling and got a fish on and caught at 3 years old chilling in my stroller. He and his boys couldn't believe it. My nick name has been "Fish" ever since then. Cant wait to get out on the water this year
Just fabricate a outboard mount. Make sure you put some knee braces on the inside of the transom. Also your weight distribution has defiantly changed...I would make sure to plan for a jack plate. There's a marine salvage place on the outskirts of Atlanta you need to check out for parts.
Welcome to the membrane effect! The roof on a stick frame house is, in the end, what truly locks everything together. True laminated plywood is the shit OSB doesn't even come close
I have to agree with the 2 motors idea. She’s a big girl, I think it’s going to take some power to move her. Love all the videos bud keep up the good work. Watching from Deep South Texas 👍🏻
My goodness dude I’m in the same boat but luckily for me I know how to fix almost anything. the engine and transmission and if I don’t know how to fix it, you best believe I can learn real quick without fail. get a hold of me man I got the knowledge you need.
I have enjoyed these videos…. Your personality is half the video! Good vibes intended for your success with the boat. I’ll be watching and supporting from afar.
I would look for an I/O 4 cylinder from a wrecked/salvaged boat, that was not in salt water. The Alfa 1 is a good I/O, easy to repair and maintain. You don’t need the speed, just a reliable 4 cylinder and it will get you there and back. An outboard will significantly shift the weight distribution and may require an aluminum float mount to add rear buoyancy.
Very good choice on ditching the IO! Even if you were to repair and keep it they are very fidgety and break down easy. We have an IO in our family’s boat and the whole lower end broke apart and sank to the bottom of Seneca Lake while on a trip down the Erie Canal. A piston in the engine was bent to hell too.
Big fan here AYO!! CONGRATS ON 300K!!!! Love the progress! Take what follows as just helpful input, either way you will rock it!! Before re framing for a new window, consider making a cardboard template of the opening and get a piece of 1/4" plexiglass cut. It won't open though. Also, once you tie all the walls together glass frame (which is basically butt jointed 1x2's offering not much in terms of support) in your boat will tighten right up. Consider some options before adding unnecessary weight with 2x stock. She was built correctly at the factory.Trying to help. She's an old girl, she's gonna sag. >;-) You should have my email if you have any questions.
If you have any possible ideas for outboard brackets, drop a comment!!
Whatever you decide, keep in mind that Fast Strike is about 370 pounds or more.
I’m not an expert but I’m curious if it would be advantageous to use 2 smaller motors in tandem, like two 75’s for example. It may more evenly disperse the weight and engine torque more evenly. Btw, did I mention I seriously need to discuss a business proposition with you asap ?

An aluminum brackets (which we call pod) will be bolted to the transom freeing up space and helping Itty-bitty plane easier as well.

You definitely pick a big project for your 1st one. look forward to your next video!!
What an incredible project run by such a champ. 10/10 cannot wait for the final product! Great job my man
Not a champ. A chump.
Looking good, can’t wait to see it anywhere but LoJo’s pond!
Getting close I remember when you first took on this project. She's starting to become ALIVE!!!!
It’s already looking good! Can’t believe how far it has come
Just love the work you have done to her. Small steps to the finish line will still render a beautiful boat.
You should glass everything. That's where the strength comes from
Since you're freeing up the back deck, you could frame in a bathroom on the side without the ladder and a grill on the other side to cook fish and keep the living space livable smell wise
Put an outboard and a kick plate on it.
You don't need speed and the old engine bay can become good storage space.
Try to stay with a 2 stroke.
You get 2 times the RPMs for 1/2 the weight.
Are you going to blue foam the walls inside ?
Ukraine is a money laundering globalist outpost
Gotta give Badger credit. When he first started I was thinking it may never happen but he walks his talk. Can give no higher mark than that!
I'm rooting for you so hard AYO. I can't wait for the next video!
A lot of the plywood can be replaced with xps foam. Its lighter (for displacement and towing) and very hardy. About same price as ply. You can use cheaper pmf over the foam in some parts instead of glass if $ is an issue. Give it a look.
Omg AYO she is coming along bro can’t wait to see how she comes out and looks keep up the great work love your videos
You were made to be an online personality. Your sense of humor is the best.
Ayo is always killing it with the uploads 🔥🔥
The itty bitty brought me here and the itty-bitty will keep me here. Love your videos as usual can't wait to see the end result😀😀
Very proud of how fare you have come on this Chanel, keep up the good work brother... much love and respect from Texas
The itty bitty is looking better
Keep showing us the progress
And best of luck 🤞
This is the one project on UA-cam I truly look forward to seeing its progression. ...... Itty Bitty 💪
Love everything y’all do
Welcome to the membrane effect! The roof on a stick frame house is, in the end, what truly locks everything together. True laminated plywood is the shit OSB doesn't even come close
Always love the videos man! Keep it up
I have to agree with the 2 motors idea. She’s a big girl, I think it’s going to take some power to move her. Love all the videos bud keep up the good work.
Watching from Deep South Texas 👍🏻
Imagine being a lucky ones in the future that gets to watch from beginning to end with this project with all the videos back to back
Keep er coming along.looking forward to the finish.
Keep the work going forward
I did just that! Had a 25ft Yukon delta. Built my own aluminum outboard bracket and hung a 150hp merc. 18mph in a 3500lbs trihull house(trailer)boat
Great video on the Itty-bitty Josh. I'm looking forward to seeing more progress 🙂
My goodness dude I’m in the same boat but luckily for me I know how to fix almost anything. the engine and transmission and if I don’t know how to fix it, you best believe I can learn real quick without fail. get a hold of me man I got the knowledge you need.
By far the most genuine and interesting project series on YT ✌️
I have enjoyed these videos…. Your personality is half the video! Good vibes intended for your success with the boat. I’ll be watching and supporting from afar.
I love watching your story with the Itty Bitty. When you have new videos, they are the first things I watch.
Yes a small I/O. Used to own one and had an OMC 350. Only 1400 or so RPM to get a nice 10kts. A four banger and an Alpha One would do fine.
Would definitely be smart to fix that old motor. A complete rebuild and it would be fine
The ittybitty lead me to find you and the boys. Now I’m a big fan of all of you.
I personally would stick with the I/O. You want the center of gravity as low as possible!
Loving the updates and your videos!
It’s starting to look really good. This boat is going to float again. Good video.
