- Groningen has many markets and today we walk through the largest market in the city with 180 stalls.
We start our walk at Akerkhof, Vismarkt and we walk the market towards de Martinitoren.
Groningen is a student city with more than 60,000 students.
It is an old historic city with a beautiful city center.

Vibrant? It is ABSOLUTELY dead compared to 40 years ago.
De street on the right at 12:40 called the Herestraat used to be so busy on warm sunny days that from the point where he was filming to the other end you had to walk heel to toe as if you are sardines being squized through a funnel. The Grote Markt and Vismarkt were the same by the way. Try to find footage of the late 80s and you will see what I mean.
Trust me as a born and raised Groninger (someone from Groningen) since 1986 I know how busy it used to be.
