Interesting update... while i find I dont use the Neutron very often as much except the EQ sometimes as I like its masking implementation, I also really dug the spirit of the Visual mixer as while we are trying not to mix with our eyes (hopefully), it did help me get an auditory visual (if that makes sense) seeing where and hearing where a signal was sitting in a realistic representation of the listening space...some cool stuff indeed, and I think like Fabfilter, Izotope has some amazing intuitive UI interaction... after all we do use a mouse and a keyboard much of the time (if we dont use a control surface of some kind all the time) and so targeting that type of feel and feedback is the future IMHO... excellent description of the use of the new functions !! :)

@@joost3783 Why? Neutron 3 just got released. I only learned about it since I got a free upgrade in my mail from Neutron 2 Standard (which I only got last month by upgrading Neutron 2 Elements to Standard). Neutron 3's Mix Assistant is awesome, so obviously people will want to make videos/demo's of it.
Joost B would it change your opinion about the plugin if the video was sponsored? In the end you gotta test it for yourself (there’s usuall a demo version) and decide whether it works for you.
I have Nectar which is specific to just vocals and it works really wel and I've used it quite a bit l -- I only do recording/mixing part-time/serious hobby, so Neutron 3 looks like it would help save me some time. Great info, thanks.
I did not know about this update, I will get my eyes on it. I spent a few bucks on my new Apollo Twin and a few plugins (you have to make a list for the top UA sh* for begginers considering the price of each DSP plugin). Mayble I'll try the splice rent to own feature if you absolutely recomend Izotope Nutron 3 for any begginer in the mixing street school.
@@mixbustv Dave as always, thanks for the advice. I will demo this over the next couple of tracks I'm producing w/ other people and check if they like the results. Thanks man
I do a pregame stage! Put a VM meter (set to -18) on all tracks and make sure nothing is clipping past zero on VU then use the neutron mixer to gain stage
After the Mix Assistant set my Levels. Should ic transfer it to my DAW faders and remove the relay Plugin or should i ignore my Faders and only make adjustments in the relay plugins? I understand that it gives me a good starting point. But is there a "good practice" to go on from there. I am not asking for mixing tipps. It just feels strange to rely on the relay plugin in the first insert, then apply any mixing plugins after that an adjust with the DAW fader and then probably even insert an Instance of Neutron 3 at the end of a track insert chain.
I wonder how well writing automation works within the visual mixer. That could be a super fun way to write volume and panning automation if it works well. I'm going to have to try digging into that.
Does it changes the fader in your daw or its within the plugin itself? Or it adjust the fader virtually within the groups you assign within the plugin. I'm lost...
I do have a question regarding gainstaging as I will be using vsts for mastering...would you advise gainstaging and if so at what point would you gainstage?I've been expirementing with around -12db which ends up around -6 or -9 db on master. I'm still very new to mixing and mastering so any advice would be a godsend to me.
I always enjoy watching Mixbus. Dave is pretty smart guy and mixing Boss. According to Neutron 3, I’m afraid in few years that kind of tools will do all or most job for mixing. We are going to be lazy and musical deaf, our ears will retire very quick
If you're learning the basics still, get any full parametric eq, proQ-3 is arguably the best, most versatile bit.ly/2C4PtjY I'd also get a classic eq, Waves API or V series are also good. Simply because with those you have fixed frequencies that worked for decades on everything, so you will organically start to associate certain key frequencies to certain tasks or instruments without too much guess work that you have with a full parametric
your title says neutron 3 . but in your video you open neutron 3 advanced. what is the difference between these 2. Except for the price? (google transl.) thx 4the vid.
Hi! and thanks a lot for this very nice tutorial, once again. When you say rough trax, what do you really mean? The tracks you use here received some compression before, even just a little because they would not be so "regular" if not. Do I miss something?
If you use Neutron in a channel do you need to add relay? Or only needs in group channels? And what about master channel Neutron tonal balance? U have to or not?
If you already adjusted the track faders - would it not be correct to put Relay post fader and as the last plugin on each track and Neutron as last plugin on the mixbus ?
MixbusTV The Mix Assistant + Relay really works ! I was lazy and just put Relay last and post fader on my busses and Visual Mixer last on my mixbus. It is a trance track where the drop really sounded muddy. It responded by turning everything down - even the kick which is my focus where my mixer fader already was at -12. Magic !
I put a relay on each individual mixer track and neutron on my master but when i go to mix assistant>balanced only neutron is showing up. Any clue why the relays aren't doing their job for me?
of course I'm not going to be producing a track at unity, so could I then rather once I'm done producing, export all the stems and normalize all my tracks and then start mixing from there?
MixbusTV then what would you suggest? Reset the gain to unity manually on each track? And if you have time, could you tell me the reasons as to why it’s wrong? Always thirsty for more knowledge haha. Thanks :)
Man, this is magic plugin... i can see myself over-tempted to use this as a panic button. what do you say man? do the ears approve on the magic or is it more like black/blood magic, the one you should only use very occasionally. I don't necessarily see the use of this one as a good habit, not in the same way as the habit of creating headroom before mixing or doing levels and pans before any processing. Good lesson to see you use it, but man I don't want to raise bad habits in my listening.
