i cant believe i've never heard of this as a child. i always watched futurama, then i decided to binge red dwarf on netflix. and damn, its the best sci fi comedy i've ever seen. it's so smart and silly at the same time
So what is it?
I recommend the BBC TV version of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy next if you haven't seen it already.
@@frontiercat8568 somebody punch him!!!
but in my timeline, and im not joking here, red dwarf is not on netflix. you made ur comment 3 years ago. idk if it was there then, but its not on there now.
The only version of Hitchhiker's Guide you should ever listen to are the first 12 radio episodes.
I use that line when conversations get screwed up. "Ah I think we have encountered the middle of this conversation".
I've never seen one before, no one has, but I'm guessing it's a white hole?
@Smokey 420 we all did
Did someone just turn over two pages at once?
Very good
Fucking genius
"Someone punch him out!!!!!" ..... Hahahahahahahahah, gets me every time....
+nvk1001 hey wait a minute, i missed the discussion

"Only joking!"
What time phenomena?
So it's decided then, we consult Holly.
I do give Rimmer credit for not wasting the 2 minutes of Holly's lifespan, he only took 15 seconds.
One of the few times he wasn't a complete buffoon
Yeah but as typically Rimmer hes just doing it to get one back over Holly for her doing the exact same to him earlier. Even when hes dead right hes still got to be petty.
One of the best scenes from the whole series, and by far my favourite episode.
I also love the scene where they batter down the door with Kryten’s, Lister asks him if he’s alright and Kryten, dazed, answers: “I’m fine, thank you, Susan.”
Couldnt agree more.
All we need is something, ooh I dunno six foot long, fairly sturdy with a flat top
@@whovianhistorybuff Fifty-three doors? Surely you can’t be serious.

"Oh someone punch him out!" xD one of the funniest moments for the dwarfers
I love how this show has at least 2 separate, hilarious bits based around Cat asking 'What is it?'
I wish it happened in more episodes
I use to watch Red Dwarf every night when I was a kid.
+Renee Sanders Same here. Good times past.
+Renee Sanders Right after The Red Green Show and possibly with Doctor Who afterwards. My favourite night. :D
+Renee Sanders How many times did you go through all the episodes?
+Tripledent Also, usually when a class was cancelled in high school (teacher called in sick or something) they would put a Red Dwarf video on for the students :)
I had the TV down low so nobody knew I was up watching TV on a school night
Ah. It seems we've encountered the middle of this comment thread.
So what is it?

What a guy!
Oh someone punch him out!

"Oh someone punch him out!" Hahaha.
I miss these golden days of Red Dwarf.
They have returned you've just got dust on your nostalgia specs.
The Brexit debate but more concise
Any debate since the beginning of time.
"Brexit means Brexit"
"So what is it?"
And with less lies from the winning side.

Red Dwarf is the perfect combo of funny and clever.
One of those rare gags that actually gets *funnier* the more you repeat it! 🤣🤣🤣
So what is it?
@@RDMacQ Just kidding ;)
Oh, someone punch him out!
Stewart Lee furiously taking notes.
So what is it?
I think this is the best Red Dwarf scene ever (principally because White Hole was the first episode I'd ever seen - and this scene had me hooked)
@Smokey 420 - We all did.
Cat's "what is it?" lines always crack me up, along with his great one-liner insults to Rimmer. Series 7 onwards proves Rob Grant wrote the gags as he was sorely missing from that series onwards. Such a shame.
It's weird now to realise that Rob left half-way through the show's run, and that was 26 years ago.
Without Cat it's not worth it.
I'm saying Fathers and Suns is up there with the greatest episodes ever.
The show essentially ended when he left. He made it special.
No matter how many times I come back to watching Red Dwarf's many clips, they're all great gut-busters. This one especially.
So what is it?
Ah, I think we've just encountered the middle of this conversation!
So what is it?
+RetroFox I've never seen one before, no one has but I'm guessing its a white hole.
+The fox gamer A white hole?
hmm every action has a equal and opposite reaction. A black hole sucks time and matter, out of the universe, a white hole, returns it.
So, that thing's spewing time... back into the Universe?
Precisely! Thats why we are experiencing these curious time phenomena on-board.
Every so often I have to come back here during a lunch break at work and experience the perfection of this. Red Dwarf absolutely firing on all cylinders.
One of the best written comedy scenes in history. This is right up there with "Who's on First"
"So what is it????"...."only joking!!!!...."
We have experienced this comment before...
only joking
and that one.
😂😂😂😂 Ah I love this bit. I remembering being in school after it aired and all my Dwarfer friends just kept repeating 'So what is it?'.... Still just as funny today. Smegging brilliant!
Still one of the funniest scenes in Red Dwarf. This should be in the comedy hall of fame right next to Who's On First.
My younger brother had concussion and by extension short-term memory loss. It reminded me of this scene because he'd ask a question, I'd answer him, and then a minute later he'd forget and ask again in the exact same way. :p
Bit late, but did you ever think to write the answer down?
"My short term memory has been erased. This I attribute to the proximity of Starbug's magnetic coils. Additionally, due to the proximity of Starbug's magnetic coils, my short term memory has been erased. This, coupled with the erasure of my short term memory, has left me a bit disorient-disorient-disoriented."
This always leaves me in tears.
Every time.
Miss this show. The best ever writing I have experienced.
Me and my sister rofl so hard when we watch this scene!
"So what is it?"
"Oh someone punch him out!"
I like that: "We've now encountered the middle of this conversation" :-D
That is just so good, when the Cat says, "What is it?' - kidding the guys (and droid)
This scene confused the hell out of me when I was younger, LOL.
When I first saw this scene, I thought my Netflix copy was skipping back lol
And I thought that they simply don't understand what Kryten is saying.
I just realised how clever it is that the scene begins by repeating Kryten's explanation makes it easier for the audience to follow the plot.
So what is it?
@Smokey Mcb A white hole?
🤣🤣🤣 cat saying the same line over and over again
I'm fine thank you Susan
My favourite quote from my favourite episode
Red dwarf...so far ahead of its time in more ways than one 😁
This is my all time favorite show.
At 0:49 Cat shrugged his shoulders as he said "Only Joking"
At 1:11 he didn't
Kryten said that they had experienced that point in time before. We know because of this difference that this was not true and Cat was simply having them on.
This scene is more linear than most realize. There's basically the start of the scene, the repeat of the start that goes a bit longer, a jump to the end of the conversation, a jump back the middle leading through the end again. Then it repeats. That's really only two abnormalities before the repeat at the end.
Cat makes it seem longer.
@Positron Wildhawk
@Steven Fisher
Amazing. Could one of you now please explain the temporal anomalies of the film Triangle, starring Melissa George? Many thanks.

"So what is it?"
Imagine the rehearsals. This has got to be one of the hardest possible scenes to get right. Jumping backwards and forwards in a scene by mistake is the all time classic error.
(I once took my son to a performance of a play they were doing for school and it ended 30 minutes early. One of the suspicious signs of a huge jump forwards.)
If they actually shoot the conversations in the order that we the audience see them, then yes. But why do that when they can just edit the conversation together?
@@Sewblon Going off the laugh track (and the fact they were using a live studio audience back then), I'd say they probably did run it through properly to get the reactions but what we're seeing is a highly selective edit of that.
@@RAFMnBgaming TV studios have been using canned laughter for decades. So I am not convinced that the laugh track is evidence that this was shot in order.
@@Sewblon Entirely fair to expect. However emperically, series 1-6 of dwarf did use a multi camera setup and live studio audience. It's a lot more obvious in the smeg ups/bloopers.
7 onwards it does go to post recorded/canned laughter because of all the special effects shots, and all the sets suddenly having a front wall.
Is this a white hole?
No, this is Patrick.
Gold I love how it just cuts them off
The first time I saw this was on a library DVD. The scene had been played over and over again so many times, that by the time I saw it, it was glitching like crazy.
My fave scene from any episode.

lol Brilliant stuff. Danny John Jules phoned me on my mobile about 2 years ago because my brother and a friend had gone to see him when he was signing pictures and what not at a local shop. He asked why I was out fishing when he was there if I were such a huge fan like they had told him I was lol. I am a huge but had paid in advance for this fishing trip before I knew Danny would be at that shop!!!. We had a very funny chat and he ended by saying that I should send him what ever I catch lol.

Daniel RCSP9 Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. A black hole sucks time and matter out of the universe, a white hole returns it.

Daniel RCSP9 Precisely, that’s why we’re experiencing these curious time phenomena on board.
So what is it, ol' chap? A white hole? Dealt with one of those in the Thedas cluster in sector 7G. Spanner and I created a lagomorph shaped ship that was able to jump time phases into reverse order thus creating a reverse black hole. While time went backwards we initiated a dimension warping wormhole connected to a forward moving universe. The two were allowed to interact, stabilizing the universe, much like osmosis stabilizes salinity levels, and returning it to a stable timeline. It was all Padre's idea, I only carried out navigation of circumventing time disturbances in the lagomorph with help from my trusted sidekick Mellie. Smoke me a kipper, Skipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
Every science video I find about White Holes I cannot help but post the opening to this as a comment. Weeds out the cool kids.
