Good trucks, damned shame they allowed the marque to die, I built frames/chassis for ERFs back in the late 70's. Sun Works is now an Aldi I understand, Edwin would be crying in his coffin I reckon. Good company and for the most part good people. Struggled to understand these blokes sometimes - been away from Beartown and the UK too long I guess. Cheers Scott, thanks for putting the clip on youtube mate, from an expat and ERF alumnus in Aus.
Great to watch, would love a pound for how many miles I did in one of these and for how many injectors I have changed on these. No working in gloves back then! That smoke used to make your eye stream when you started on in the garage.
We own a B Series with a 230 turbo Gardner. She used to be owned by JG Stampers on steel work but we’ve retired her to the Cotswolds. There’s nothing like an ERF
innit. made me laugh at Peterborough truckfest this year. Sat around having some beers after cleaning truck. 2 lads about 30 going on how they cut there teeth on automatic dafs lol. neither of them had ever drove a manual. Showed them my new scania with a gear stick there faces hahaha. . it's a Different world is the trucking world now. When I was 14 I know how to drive a Eaton twin splitter. 10 speed spicer. 13 speed Eaton and the good old road ranger.
I owned and ran a C series with the straight 8 Gardner, really great to drive but would have been better with a Cummings engine. Mine was a Chinese six with sleeper cab ,rubber suspension and night heater. I spent 5 nights a week in it and loved it.
Saturday job many years ago was washing tankers .. b series 8 wheeler with a roller 265 and a c series cummins290 .wat a time rippin round the yard in them
Undoubtedly the best lorries that's ever came out of Britain just couldn't kill them the gaffers motors that's what they were known as just kept on going the Germans should never ever have been allowed to buy the company never fell in love with ERF when my old man got a brand new one back in 1974 with Baird of milngavie osn 27 m that was the number
It would be great to see more from the Tailgate Productions (HGV DVD’s) archives, They produced many in-depth videos from 2000-2006, I suppose the rise of UA-cam and illegal copyright infringement uploads like this created an unsustainable market for many smaller enthusiast production company’s.
You have to respect a man who was willing to sacrifice all kinds of comfort and self image to make a pound note. In the 80s these trucks werre kings of the roads but after the millennium still running an A reg. Nah fuck that mate haha.
They were bought out by western star who in turn sold them to MAN which was when I stopped buying ERF trucks the ECX being my last. After that I bought Renaults which proved to be outstanding trucks with the MACK engine

You said that you built the frames, was that the cab frames ?
What a great film.. how the country has gone to shit in just over 2 decades is beyond me! We literally have nothing now to be proud of.
Great video good motor , better times, sad to see how we have finished up today ,
remember as a kid. Asking my uncle who was a driver what does ERF stand for? he said. Enormous, Rattling, Fu##er.
Everything Running Fine or European Road Failure

Drove an ERF with 265 rolls on 32ton, nice, it did the job, day cab, blue interior. thanks for the memories.

Old Gardners are a sound long missed from our roads now.
Great video, loved it back when truck's were truck's and you don't need a dam laptop to find out what is wrong with it.👍👍
Nice to see this. Old skool haulage. This is how we cut our teeth. Top man. Love the c series

WELL ENGINEERED. LEGENDS OF TRANSPORT
The man is a GARDENER magician.
When he put the clutch in , he should have swapped the 9 speed for a twin splitter

But I bet you watched it
Love the start up
The injection pumps on the Gardner engines where made by Gardner as well?
Got this DVD , think the unit got made in to a 6 wheeler rigid.
Them old gardener engines would only need to smell a incline and you would be in crawler gear 🙈🤣
Would never give in though

Remember pulling potatoes from cornwall to walkers LEICESTER leycroft road. C R haulage. EVERARDS LINCOLN
Holmes Chapel before the weight limit .
Absolutely class
The 310 bhp were the end of the gardners. .
Never knew Gardner did a turbocharged motor
Been looking for this!!
Please, someone open up the idel by 150 rpm to stop every thing rattling to bits
Is the chap still going?
A ec14 or ec11 would be a lot better!!
Can still remember reg of mine KTL 955Y 👍
The gardner 150 is an LX not an LXB.
Can't imagine anyone being OD now. ULEZ and Digi tacho has fu-ked it
How times change. Them cabins will be moved with a wagon with its own crane
Dose anyone know how else owned the erf
