@ilovemmamuaythaibox That is a Great question, and the answer is no you don't.. Some of the Best trainers in the world had little or no professional boxing experience at all,, I believe that a trainer should have stepped into the ring as an amateur or even as a sparring partner for other fighters in the gym in order to fully understand how the body reacts to being hit, how to react when stressed and tired and still having to defend yourself,,a good coach is a good teacher, bottom line...
The three disc series covers the technical aspects of the shoulder roll and includes an entire Roger / Floyd Jr. Pad work routine, as well as several mitt work patterns used by Joan Guzman. The blocks and rolls that are explained and broken down in here are derived from the philly shell which Floyd Sr. taught to Floyd Jr. which is utilized when he does pad work with Roger so I explain that in detail. I will be coming out in the future with DVDs that cover footwork and other boxing techniques.
@tysonkayla35 I appreciate your comment,, but the "Old Skool" way of training fighters is over,,, what Roger Mayweather has done with his mittwork is revolutionize the way fighters should be trained from the start.. I teach this system because it works,, I have trained novice boxers, accomplished amateurs, top ranked pro's and several world champions with this system and some of the new things I have added to it, and the bottom line is, they keep sending more fighters to me to train,, it works..
@tysonkayla35 Thanks for All your comments, I appreciate opinions from from anyone who knows a little about the Sport and Art of Boxing,, I have been involved in boxing for over 30yrs as both fighter and trainer,, what I teach is a Proven System of Technical Boxing training Inspired by Roger and Floyd Mayweather's World Class training and Mittwork,, I teach it because I know how to, and I know that it works for fighters at any level,, and I train fighters from all over the world amateur and Pro.
@REGGIESILK , Cheers From the States, New Jersey in particular my brother!! To answer your question, I am pretty sure most states in the USA except Nevada, use 10oz gloves for weight classes at welterweight or above..
I been boxing for a while now and I can tell you, this type of mittwork is indispensable to the art. It teaches you to think, react, and flow with your movements like no other style of mittwork before it. Just hating and saying it's only to look pretty is probably coming from someone who doesn't actually box, or is too stuck in their old school mannerisms to move on and get with the program. I only wish I had the money to come train with a coach like this.
@NextTime4U Great job....I am from Croatia and I train boxing.I will agree with you when you say that Mayweather has started a new era in boxing.Just look on FMJR.score....Keep up the good work and who knows maybe one day we will work together...All of you guys talking here this is shit..this doesn t work...all of you talk that way is because....you think that you know something but.................
@IMTChe Rick's a good teacher. That's all he's claiming to be. Your high school biology teacher is not Albert Einstein, just a good explainer. Many great boxers would be incapable of articulating their experience to students. And quite a few great major league baseball manager never played in the majors and barely as pros. They were usually unsuccessful players.
@NextTime4U ur opinion is very interesting, please do us a favor and show how it is applied in sparring. also, i think old skool fighters are over also, the last are James Toney and Hopkins, Toney the best shoulder roll dude and one of my favorite fighters of all time. i know mayweathers never taught him...lol.
I'm really diggin this...I like how you seem to be breaking all the little movements and steps down, and explaining them and their purpose/benefits as you go along...I often do so when training friends/family...helps out alot...and besides that you've got some pretty grand routines... lookin forward to more.. ;Gray
@shocktrauma13 What if you shoot your own Right Cross as you slip to the left. Then follow it with a left hook or left uppercut. They might not be as quick with there right if you give them something to think about, playing defense and offense at the same time.
@tysonkayla35 its the way forward.. stop living in the past.. i think this style of training is more focus making you think more.. awareness.. defence.. you say stop doing this!! because mayweather has the skills!! what gave him these skill.. this type of pad work!!!
Hey Coach Rick!, Since you have been involved with boxing for many years I was just wondering if you know whether or not the pro fighters today still use 8 ounce gloves in their bouts or is it only 10 ounce.Cheers from Australia!!
