GAME: Persona 3 Reload
AUTHOR: Atlus
As with the original Persona 3, the protagonist is a high school student returning to his home city a decade after his parents were killed in a fatal car crash. He soon gains the potential to summon a Persona-the physical manifestation of his inner spirit, and joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (S.E.E.S.), a group of like-minded Persona users. Here's something funny. In the movie, Aigis did attempt to shoot Ryoji with a hail load of bullets the moment she spot him in Decision Day, but the bullets stopped magically in their tracks and Ryoji claims that only Makoto can end him.
Nico, Aeon is another reading for Judgement, and it's usually tied to the velvet room in some way
I think Nico is misrememberimg the decision in Vanilla P5. You're basically just flat out given a choice to let the villain do what they want and take over humanities free will, or not let him.

Nico, I think you forgot _how_ Ryoji said The Fall would come. He said every living being would become like The Lost. The Fall didn't come with a loud bang or anything like that. It simply _happened,_ right then and there, as the MC, Junpei, and Yukari were in the room separately (not together) doing their own thing. _That's_ when The Fall happened.

Something to note, the final rescue will be available on the 15th, its recommended that you do it ASAP and other Liz Requests as soon as you can, so you can prepare to do the secret boss of this game (they made it so that the boss does not require New Game Plus to do, unlike in the original/FES).
Another thing, there will be ONE day (on the 25th) where you're allowed to do stuff but Aigis wont be available, so keep a different SL saved up for that day.
Good luck with that. Nico hasn't been fusing his Personas since November. I'd like to see him try and fight the Reaper with his current Personas just for the lulz.
I mean nico can try it but idk if he can beat the super boss on this playthtough. Between the turn limit, the damage nessesary to enter each phase, and the persona restrictions its an insane puzzle battle that can only be done 1 way and based on nico's reactions to the kh3 remind fights dude is not a fan of restrictive battles that hinder one's playstyle they used all game.

@@jadendobson9614 They actually let you fight the attendants on a first playthrough in Portable, so Reload isn't technically the first to offer that.
I think it's interesting how in Mitsuru's little January hang out she gets sad if you say you're interested in someone, when she asks you. I've seen a fair few people get confused by this, as they all thought she'd naturally assume it could be her.
But I think this is an interesting peak at Mitsuru's lack of self-confidence when it comes to romance. In her Christmas date she mentions feeling slightly jealous when the protag is around Yukari, she also makes references a few times (at other points) at feeling somewhat inferior compared to Yukari.
So when Mitsuru hears you do like someone she naturally assumes it must be someone like Yukari, who you've been far more friendly and close with (compared to Mitsuru who struggles to integrate herself into the group) for nearly a year. But if you say no, despite being surrounded by others all this time, then Mitsuru becomes happy, thinking she might have a chance.
What made Aigis seem more human to SEES is how her dialogue and inflexion changes after she's repaired.
Not only she drops the overly formal and objective speech pattern (this is especially notorious in the Japanese version), she's now much more emotional when expressing herself.
The way she said "You're throwing away your lives!" last episode is the most clear indication of it.
Nico, you keep mentioning that it's easy to figure out the right answer of what to do here. But in my opinion its not about figuring out. It's about roleplaying and seeing the character's will to face Death head on, not running away from it. It's more of a character moment than a gameplay moment.
Yeah, I think it's more of a "What would YOU do in this situation?" kind of thing.
Nico's constant complaining about Mr. Edogawa got me thinking, and I believe that he is the teacher the Persona team is most proud of. Edogawa's appearance is based on one of Atlus's main writers (Shogo Isogai), his lectures (supposedly written directly by Isogai himself) are the least changed compared to other teachers in all the versions of Persona 3 , at some point you unluck the ability to visit him for more lessons that you can come back and rereview at any time, he returns in Persona 4 to give a lecture filled with massive foreshadowing, he is involved in one of the new social links for the Female Protag of Portable, and finally he shows up in Golden to give a series of lectures on Jungian psychology, the bedrock of the Persona series.
Atlus is famous for their extensive research into mythology and the occult, and I think Edogawa exists to show off the research they did for the meaning of the tarot and other major concepts behind the Persona series. The thing is, I have not seen a single let's player actually enjoy his lectures, so I am not sure if Edogawa succeeded in what he is meant to do. The only times I see people like him are Atlus superfans, so it seems the people who appreciates his lectures are the kind who will enjoy the background research for the games regardless of how it is presented. The fact that Edogawa never comes back for anything related to Persona 5 is probably meaningful.
The problem is that people don’t really want or need a character to just throw the entire theme of the game in their face in a multiple paragraph long lecture. What he talks about is interesting sure, but the way it’s presented makes it overly verbose and boring to the general viewer, which leads them to just think ‘he’s talking about absolutely nothing important’. Edogawa isn’t needed to understand the themes of the game, and the extra detail he does add is presented in a boring lecture, so most players obviously just see him as an annoying part of the game.

But for real, I love the game's soundtrack as a whole, yet the music they play from this point on is something special, man.

Here's what I really like about the bad ending to Persona 3. The whole time you're viewing the ending there's this prevailing sense of dread as you watch the events unfold and expect that sometime, Nyx will just show up and just...end the world. It never happens at all throughout the ending and it never shows the Fall but that prevailing sense of dread permeates everything you see. In any other scenario, the party enjoying everyday school life would be relaxing but here its tense because any moment, any time everything can just...stop. It ties perfectly with the themes of Persona 3: Memento Mori: remember you are mortal. Throughout the entire story the protag and party are forced to encounter death everywhere from the main story to the social links be it literal death or metaphorical death, on the way learning the inescapable truth that the only thing at the end of life is sadness and pain. Yet there is something else gained from seeing death: growth. By witnessing death the party is also forced to accept life: that despite life being nothing but a journey to the grave, that only makes living life to the fullest more necessary rather than less necessary. It's a painful thing and a sad thing to see death but it is necessary to grow. And it's not just the party that grows, but the player as well. However, in this ending the protag decides to throw it all away for the sake of happiness. He and his friends now live in blissful ignorance, happy but stripped of all growth and never forced to accept death and appreciate life. But there is consequences to this action. Aigis remembers your decision and perhaps more importantly: so does the player. Both Aigis and the Player are forced to watch as the party does nothing but climb to their blissfully ignorant end without the knowledge or growth that are needed. Ryoji promised that if they killed him, they would die happy and while this is true to an extent, all this means is that they regress while Aigis and the Player instead carry the burden of paranoia and misery that the party left behind. It's similar to the symbolism behind the evokers: by enacting a ritual mimicking the act of death, the Persona user gains knowledge of death and the will to survive. Without that will, Ryoji ironically grants the party the thing he promised he would take away: a slow agonizing crawl towards an inevitable doom. And you can do nothing to stop it.
Tl;dr the reason the ending is great is because sometimes the idea of a horror movie monster is scarier than a horror movie monster.
And they lose all their memories of the dark hour, all their experiences with death that forced them to learn to treasure life are just... gone. Seeing everyone regress to a nillistic outlook on life and go back to the shallow people they were before the events of the story HURTS. Then the game cuts to the scene of the original three hanging out at karaoke unaware of the world's fate...
This might be one of the few times NicoB chose bad endings like Danganronpa 1(technically), Persona 4 Arena Ultimax with Kanji, and Zero Escape series. There might be some more I missed.
@@ScorbunGame I don't think nihilistic is the right word to describe it, maybe it's more akin to cynical because they spew platitudes but don't really act upon them.
Junpei says "he'll figure something out if things backfire", but we all know he'll "just forget about it and do something fun".
Avoidance. It's what he's always done before meeting Chidori and only started thinking about it during his visits to the hospital.

Everything is just... gone. Everyone is a stranger to each other and everyone pretty much regresses.
Yukari has no interest in the future, Junpei decides not to think about it at all, Mitsuru's speech is an empty formality, Akihiko doesn't interact with anyone, and the MC just... goes with the flow rather than taking any decision for himself. Nothing but shallow lives, just like they were at the start.
And the last scene is just so depressing. Junpei, Yukari and the MC are all in the same room, but they don't indulge in each other's company... they're all in their own bubble. Completely unaware of the world's upcoming end. They might not know but only YOU, the player, is left dreading and wondering WHEN it's gonna hit...

oof, yes! seeing mitsuru forget about how and why her father died hurt so bad, but then there's no mention of shinji or akihiko's sister at alllll.
but somehow seeing junpei forget about chidori and go back to being a bit of creep was the most heartbreaking for me ;-;
also the movies do a great job at showing the protagonist's growth, so seeing protagonist go back to how he was at the beginning of the game was very oooooof as well

Me: ITS CALLED ATMOSPHERE NICO BIZZLE!! THE ATMOSPHERE, OF DEATH!!
That weapon for Akihiko that gives freeze boost also changes his regular attacks to be ice, the idea is that his basic attacks can freeze, and in a way, if you are lucky enough, you can crit a frozen enemy, use Akihiko in that downed enemy, and freeze it again, basically preventing that shadow from ever moving.
That sounds broken
As a side note, in at least the FES guide I followed for 100% SLs, Nozomi(Moon) was mostly saved for your winter vacation where you had nothing to do, thereby implying that the cult he joined was the cult of Nyx
Now that you decided to not to kill Ryoji, here's a bit of lore behind Nyx that only appeared in Japanese Persona Lore books. But apparently Nyx is not only the Greek Goddess of the Night, but an alien whose arrival on Earth created the Collective Unconscious and made Humans sentient. That's right, Humanity exists as it is today in the Persona Universe because of Nyx. That's why Nyx has the authorithy to just kill everyone, she gave people a psyche and she can take that away. Unlike the other Persona God bosses Nyx she isn't initiating anything herself, she has always been around humanity and is just granting what a large number people in humanity are asking her to do, and thats to die.
The majority rules suck for the minority.
This could've been mentioned already, but knowing now that Ryoji/Thanatos was inside Nico all along, a detail I saw at his Persona awakening in the beginning: the other SEES members were shocked of what were seeing, but Itkutsuki had a mix of both shock and excitement in his face, subtlety forming a smile, another indicative of his true nature.
By the way Nico, there is one more Theurgy you can unlock at your current level. There are three more total for the protag, but only one is in your reach at the moment. You need Forneus and Decarabia in your compendium. I personally never used this particular Theurgy, but I reckon you'd probably still want to at least see it.
I dunno if you're interested in getting the Platinum trophy for this game, but you do have a chance at getting it. Also, yes, there IS a trophy for completing ALL the Social Links in a single run (as you can imagine a fair few of us missed it on our first run). But there is a trophy that you could miss out on, as I'm pretty sure you never got the trophy for finding all the Twilight Fragments in the overworld.
If you haven't, I'm fairly certain where the missing fragment is (as it's very easy to miss). You have to go to the School Gates (an area basically never used in the game) and there will be a Twilight Fragment on the right hand side at the base of one of the lampposts (just keep clicking around them till you find it.
I will say Nico, Persona 5 did *not* have a Confidant for specifically the Phantom Thieves. The Fool was Igor, and Judgement was Sae. You never got one for the party as a whole.
Probably what led to the whole they were more like coworkers than even SEES argument thus leading to the creation of Strikers and Tactica.
This part of the game has honestly my favorite tracks of the whole game. When you're out in the city the song that plays is called "Memories of the City" when you are in school the song is called "Memories of the School", both tracks are to symbolize all the memories you had both in the city and at school, mostly with your Social Links. The song that plays while you are in the dorm is called "Living with Determination" it's suppose to be a sign of the resolve the party took as a team and how they are living with the determination of preventing the end of the world. I enjoy these tracks so much and how heavy these tracks are and it matches with how the tone shift of the game went to during this part of the story.
16:35 notice that you're killing ryoji with your persona before midnight. Unlike persona 4/5 (where you can only use your persona in the TV world or metaverse), evokers allow SEES and Strega to summon personas in the real world even outside of the Dark Hour. Another example is when Mitsuru asked Fuuka to scan Yakushima during daytime with her persona when they were trying to find Aigis. Chidori's persona Medea goes berserk and tries to strangle her during the daytime too

In the FeMc route the scene with the idea of not killing Ryoji makes it a bit heartwrenching since it shows that he loves you so much that the idea of killing someone she actually cares for won't make her happy till the end.

I think you kinda missed the point of the bad ending. It's not supposed to be flashy and dramatic. The whole atmosphere is meant to get dour and relatively muted. No one knows death is coming, Ryoji even said it, it'll happen in an instant and no one will feel a thing, its why he wanted to die, he didn't want anyone to suffer
I didn't expect Nico to choose to fight Nyx by challenging them to a Moonlight dance off. Weird way to go but I respect it.
Come on, Nico. The lighting and music changing is not new. It happened in the original game, and P4 and P5 had something similar in the last months.
You've reached the climax and the literal feeling of death is all over the place, that's why music and atmosphere is different.
fair warning by the way, i do not know why but in this game killing the reaper gives you an absolutely ridiculous amount of EXP. i went from something like level 75 to level 90 on most of my party in my playthrough if i remember correctly, so if you are gonna do it expect to be overleveled when you fight nyx
The funny thing Nyx was inside Nico all along and even in the boring ending Nyx had fun at Karaoke and decided not to destroy the world.

Uh nico... Phantom Thieves as a whole don't represent Fool, that goes to the fake igor, and Phantom Thieves don't have judgement either, that's Sae's Social Link
The ultimate Persona of the Fool isn't always Susano-o. In fact, most of the ultimate Personas have never been the same between games. The ones that are the same between 3, 4, and 5 are Odin (Emperor), Kohryu (Hierophant), Attis (Hanged Man), Beelzebub (Devil), Sandalphon (Moon), and Asura (Sun). That's only 6 out of 22.

The overworld songs for this part of the game are called
Living With Determination -Iwatodai Station Arrange-. This is a remix of the song that plays during a lot of the game's "sad" moments, like you and Yukari on the beach or your Rank 10 with Akinari. (In FES, this song actually plays during _every_ rank up with Akinari, but this was changed to play a newish song they made for Reload in ranks 1-9.)
Memories of the School. A version of this song also plays in Akinari's Rank 1-9 in Reload as well as a lot of other places that originally used Living With Determination, but this version is completely different from those versions. It's also very different from the version FES used for the month of January.
Memories of the City. Not much to say here. The city is falling apart; people are simply standing there, awaiting death; cults are appearing that worship Nyx. Society is coming apart at the seams.
As for what you said about Memories of the City sounding like another song at the end of the game... Most of the music in this game shares the exact same leitmotif. Even the "hanging out" song that plays whenever you hang out with one of your Social Links shares the same leitmotif as Memories of the City and Memories of the School. All it does is change the instruments. I personally believe this whole soundtrack is Shoji Meguro's best work, at least in the Persona series. (Actually, the song he considers his magnum opus is in this game. We haven't heard it yet, though.) Even the Tartarus entrance theme (which is called The Voice Someone Calls) is basically a slowed down version of Living With Determination.
The neat thing about walking with Koromaru in January is that everyone you run into now all have unique dialogue about what’s going on right now. The weird thing though, is that when you run into Chihiro, the game just sorta assumes you’ve completed her Social Link, because she no longer stutters and is confident. So if you haven’t finished her by this point it’s kinda weird to suddenly see her change like that out of nowhere.
Interesting tidbit, in the movie adaptation, the protagonist imagines what it would be like to kill Ryoji. It’s basically just the bad ending, capped with the protagonist at karaoke as ashes start raining down on him.
And then he snaps out of it when he remembers his dying mother telling him to live.
It’s at this point he gives Elizabeth a tour around the city and regains his will to live.
Also, Aigis (who didn’t get reassured yet) panics and tries to shoot Ryoji after protagonist spares him. She gets talked down afterwards.

1:25:58 You couldn't be more wrong there, Nico. There is in fact an Aeon arcana, it belongs to the Thoth tarot deck.
As I mentioned in P5S with Zenkichi's Apostle/Priest being the equivalent of the Hierophant, Aigis' Aeon is the equivalent of Judgement.
While the elements of the cards differ, their meaning is pretty much the same: Evaluation and reflexion of our actions in order for us and our lives to grow.
Remember: There are no made up Arcanas in Persona.

@@zigslotheon I haven't played nor seen LPs of P5T, so I'm not really sure about him. All I know is that the other extra arcanas from Royal and Strikers come from very, very early versions of the tarot.

Aeon is a real Arcana. It just depends on what deck you use. Aeon and Judgement are both the 20th Arcana in the decks that they're in.

@@MaxusFox23 Very true, he only finally gave into hanging out with Kenji again when he was the only choice, except Fuuka (and I'd already told him she was best saved for Monday/Saturday).
If Nico hadn't chosen to have his dessert at the beginning with characters like Bebe, Yuko and Chihiro. Then he wouldn't be left powering his way through Kenji's Social Link at the end 😆.

All the girls look so pretty in their Kimono´s and I really like the colors of each of them.
In the FeMC route of P3P, the FeMc was invited by Yukari to go with the girls to the shrine and Mitsuru prepared the kimonos for the girls and the FeMC wears a orange kimono and her romantic partner blushes and complimented her. ^_^
So here’s an interesting change, in FES, at the rooftop scene 1:21:29. There’s actually a moment where Yukari leaves and you’re alone with Junpei, that’s where he acknowleges that he’s jealous but promises to be bros for life, that’s done with linked episodes in this one. But he also comments on if you’re dating anyone in SEES. Just thought I’d mention it since Nico wants some in story comments on it. Also its weird they took it out
I absolutely LOVE all the changes in the new year to drive home the somberness of what's to come. The dimmer/less saturated lighting everywhere, the more downbeat music tracks. The first time I heard the leitmotif of Memories of You (the ending theme of OG) in the new city theme I lost my mind (makes more sense in retrospect now as the city theme is called "Memories of the City").
The sense of dread matches that of Majora's Mask.

Since the LP is coming to a close soon and I seriously doubt there will be any better time to check them out, might I suggest considering looking into some of the P3P exclusive Social Links? Doesn't have to be during the LP a bonus episode would be fine too.
If you do I would suggest the following characters: Junpei, Akihiko, Shinji, Koromaru, Ryoji (some overlap with his linked episodes), Odagiri Rank 8-10 (mostly the same but with differences), Hermit Arcana (completely new character), Chariot Arcana (also a completely original character), and Theodore (technically not a social link and does have some overlap with his sister, but his differing personality definitely makes his hang outs more unique)
Would love to see this but wouldn’t it be a bit of a commitment to play through P3P to get to these moments?

I don’t think he really needs to see these. Most of what we get from the Male SLinks are covered in linked episodes(not everything but a decent amount) and if Nico for whatever reason might want to play P3P ether as a stream lp or on his own he can enjoy those aspects of it

I will reiterate my suggestion to watch his Social Link-- particularly, the Romance route-- from Portable, even if it's just entirely for your own enrichment and not as part of any bonus reaction videos. There are quite a few montages floating around. I specify the Romance route since that's where Reload seems to be sourcing from when it comes to how it portrays Ryoji. (also ohmygod the sporadic voice clips leading up to Rank 9, I'm not someone who is easily IF AT ALL swayed by having sweet romantic nothings dropped right into my earholes but THIS MOOGLEFLUFFIN' SOCIAL LINK. ahem)

also because Ryoji replaces Keisuke as the Fortune Social Link, the Fusion unlocked at completion is Norn.
There is a bit darker idea if you think on the bad ending. the only remaining friend group is the MC, Fukari and Junpei were still hanging out, but there was no sign of Komomaru, Ken or Fukka in the ending. And it's implied that everyone in the dorm dont really remember each other all that much after the MC kills Ryoji.
Now... that probably also means some the growth the characters had over the last year had gone away. outside of hard facts like the death of Mitsuru's father, lot of the growth and development of the character happened because or during the dark hour. Mitsuru and Amada are probably hardened enough to push forward, but the others arent so fortunate.

I'm pretty sure that movie with zombies in Italy that Junpei said watched is a refference to The House of The Dead 2 since that game (Along with The House of The Dead 4) takes place in Venice Italy. So that makes three House of The Dead refferences in total in this game.
The scheduling for getting all social links is not as tight as you think, as there's quite a few days of leeway. After all, in this LP you "wasted" some opportunities/days that would've helped you be more optimal.
But aside from that, I'm personally of the opinion that even if something is hard to accomplish you should still have something to show for it other than bragging rights or self-satisfaction. It's part of the reason I was disappointed Raoul was just a DLC persona in P5R.

Older versions of this game had the same credit rolls in both endings, which was rather weird in the bad ending.
Here, the bad ending credits use the exact track I expected that it would in the event that the track was changed -- Mistic (if that's the intended spelling in this case).

You know its kinda funny that the gameplay for Persona 3 remake Played by NicoB is the one made me cope about my Lost about my Grandfather on June 3rd 8AM and my Mother June 4th 1AM I was with my mother at the Hospital since April till the her end while I did take care of Grandfather as well since the 3rd Week of May. its Ironic that a game about Life and Death and this tragic scenario or choices and made me at ease that life can fade away suddenly.
