@klarinetta You know what? If You Raise Me Up is plagiarism of Söknuður, then Söknuður is plagiarism of the song called Danny Boy. Danny Boy is the lyrics to an old Irish tune called Londonderry Air. Now, those lyrics were released in 1913. WAY before Söknuður. Now if you listen to These two songs, you'll hear that You Raise Me Up and Danny Boy is VERY similar.

Exactly. This song is made by Norwegian-Irish duo Secret Garden. I don't know what Söknuður has to do with this

@klarinetta These songs have similarities as well as huge differences in beat and speed, lyrics, tone and more... But, to say it's 97 % similar, that is beyond my comprehension. First off, if it's a copyright issue, the song YRMU could not have been distributed worldwide! And you will find lots of older songs or riffs that use the same melody and accords similar to this song. Secret Garden/Løvland use the irish sound in their songs, and that sound is not to far from the Islandic folkmusic ...

@klarinetta I don't understand why this is being said all the time. Yes, I do hear the similarity, but they are still two different songs, and besides, think about all the other songs that are similar to each other. If we were to comment and make big things out of each and everyone of them, we wouldn't have time to enjoy beautiful songs like this, because we would all be arguing.
Similar yes, but this is still a very very good song. Ergo the reason it's so popular all over the world.

@Mimichan86 Similar and 97% alike is not the same thing. To steal is a crime and I feel very sad that people know this song as You raise me up and as the original song Söknuður from my country Iceland. Personally if I made a song then meet some other musicians(in this case Rolf Lövland "composer" of You raise me up) here in Iceland during that time and then find out 25 years later that he wrote another song with all the ideas from my own song I would like to see justice in court

@Mimichan86 Well sorry but the saying is People indeed are stupid and that goes for Rolf because he was around the composer of Söknuður in Iceland when he wrote the song in 1977. You just can't take someone's work and change 5% of it or so and say that it's your work. Jóhann Helgason should at least be named as co composer of You raise me up and so do lot of experts that have compared those two songs.

@Mimichan86 And get all the money that son song has made in profit and put the original one in front of the world.

@klarinetta My goodness, you just can't handle the fact that another song got famous instead of this one.
Besides, those who says the song is 97% similar has to be either deaf or stupid. Several people that I know (also that I don't know) has listened to both song, and yes, they can hear the similarity in tunes, but it's not even close to 97% similar.
Also, the last time I heard about this case was 4 years ago, and it didn't end very well for your composer at that time.

@Mimichan86 It has been proven to be 97% the same as Söknuður and lawyers say that Jóhann Helgason the composer of Söknuður has a very strong case.

@klarinetta in what part of my comment did I say that they weren't similar?
I've taken a look at the lyrics, and the theme's are very different, so that can't be it, the melody is only similar at some parts, but this isn't the only song that is like that, so instead of repeating yourself, why not explain why you come here, and post this negative comment, when it's not really needed? We know, mainly because people like you want to ruin the experience for us by saying "It's faaaake!!!!!"

@klarinetta Actually it just annoyes them. Not the right way to get the attention you want.

@klarinetta Now since Danny Boy was released long before Söknuður, I believe that means your dear composer is just out for the money that You Raise Me Up made. DB and YRMU are much more similar than Söknuður, and yet the composers of that song laid of the case. Also, the apparantly don't think themselves so special they should try to get the fame because Danny Boy is actually a popular song too. Unlike yours. Btw, that might be because it's in ENGLISH and not Icelandic.

You raise me up is not original. It's has been proved to be 97% alike to Söknuður by Jóhann Helgason(Iceland) composed in 1977 and sung by Villhjálmur Villhjálmsson.
    Just listen to it ua-cam.com/video/oq9tphh6Apw/v-deo.html

97 %? More likely 9,7 % if you ask me! This one on the other hand sounds more like that icelandic one : /watch?v=ArA6eEhm41g.
