“…As a black woman you’re accustomed to ignorance all the time …” Facts Kelis, and thank you for demonstrating through your artistry, that we are multidimensional. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
💯 No lies detected.
"No person in America is more disrespected than the black woman." ~ Malcom X
@Dem Moore She didn’t say “filled with”, she said “accustomed to”, meaning, being exposed to other people’s ignorance in how they perceive the lives and experiences of black women.
The older I get the more true this statement becomes.
If we weren't multidimensional we wouldn't have been brought here. We are the ones who don't believe it.
She looks so happy and free!!!!!!
Definitely looks and sounds free!!!
She does
Yes she does!! Her energy and spirit, is beautiful!! Everything about her is beautiful!

Artist? What songs has she done???

@@renatta2559 thank you!!! going to look for it now!
I’m still mad about oxtails and chicken wings being so expensive now. I mean furious. All because some bougie set discovered how good they are. They done gone and “discovered” greens now too…..
Yeah it's crazy. My aunt always talks about having a meltdown one day when she was young because she had to have chicken wings again because my grandma could only afford that part at the time.
Gentrification of our food. It's highly irritating. It's what we get for sharing our food....
Beef tongue prices are crazy now also. Makes me mad because the gentrifyersdont even know how to cook oxtails or tongue
Me too...furious 😡 about these high oxtail prices!
@@RealRoyaltE we should blow up chitlins and watch them eat all that shit! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I could listen to Kelis talk about food and life for HOURS!!!!!
“Obviously as a black woman you’re accustomed to ignorance all the time…” So freaking accurate. Love her.
It’s the historical context for me !!!!!! Come on Gullah Geechee !
I've bought her goldmine boxes and her rubs, dressings, and sauces are extremely DELICIOUS!!!
Thanks for sharing ❤️
Where can we buy them?
I wanna get it

Bonding over food my mother cooked is my top childhood memory. She was from Louisiana and had 13 younger siblings. She always cooked more than enough for the meal. She was the reason I loved vegetables at a very young age. In high school my friends loved to be invited to dinner. Kelis reminds me that my mother cooked from her heart and that’s why her food was so delicious. Rip Momma, I miss you a lot❤️
❤
God bless you, God bless ya mama.
Im proud im apart of the geechee nation this dish is about of my culture
Mine too ✨
Yeah I thought we were gonna see the finished dish, but anyhoo… Kelis is a joy bcuz she truly lives a joyful life 😊
Kelis is sooo dope! 💚 Her creativity is boundless. It’s often assumed that Black women only know how to cook soul food and not world class cuisine👩🏾🍳. Our Ancestors farmed this land, were given scraps and made them delicacies. She made me hungry for my fav oxtails and some jerk chicken & rice 🍛.
Bravo 👏 applause 👏 well said!!
This hit home for me, as a chef who’s a black woman I get the ignorance a lot and it’s mind blowing the things I’ve seen and encountered over the years. Yet I’m still pushing forward to learn more and get where I want to be as a chef.
She watched the document High On The Hog documentary. Best documentary thus far.
I loved it! So good! Had no idea.
Yesssssss I loved it!
High on the Hog was an awesome documentary! ❤ Very informative

You can feel her passion, pride for our shared heritage, total fulfillment for where she is right now. Such a joy to listen to. I need more of her.
Love so Much that Kelis is a Chef, she didn’t become a Chef she was always Chef, she just had to get the Paper ❤️
No makeup, all natural everywhere even with her food. I love her 🌱🤌🏾
For the 18 people with the thumbs down, we can only assume you have a feeding tube and we are sorry, so very sorry.
🤣🤣🤣🤣👌🏾
Right.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the truth 😅
Funny.
😂 Damn, this is a curse!
She’s absolutely right about the price of oxtails these days🤣
💯😂😂😂
I’m from Honduras and we eat all those meals that she just mentioned 🙌🏽.. So she knows the Culture 💯... so much better than any fast food.. Healthy and clean
Yes... she reminds me of my Honduran cousins cooking on their stoves outdoors. I really miss that.
So true on the Ox Tails. I remember being able go get for .99 a pound back in the day. At the market two days ago & 20.99!!
Jewelry Queen, I agree so many prices have almost doubled in less than 2 years
I’m geechee born and raised and I’m waiting to see this rice
What part of the south?
It makes sense that Kelis is a Chef now. The creative, artistic types always overlap naturally between passions (Singers, Cosmetologists, Musicians are THE best chefs...naturally due to creativity). Such a great story on Kelis now! Thank you, GMA!!!
Her rice brings all the boys to the yard.
Thanks Lala, I didn't want to be the only 1 on this channel to say that.
Such a beautiful person and love the whole homestead farm-to-table idea.
She’s such a humble and smart woman. She really has become a beautiful person after all these years.
I haven't seen her for like forever😅It's good to see her again! She so pretty💝💝💝💝
I like Kelis. Food is extremely important in our culture as it brings us together while telling the story to others as to who we are. Brilliant segment. Should be more of this although would have liked to see more of the food pre and post interview. Maybe Kelis should have a cooking show 🤔👍🏼✨
Tisa Ligon Roman, Kelis has had a cooking show. And you can still see vids showing how she performs her magic dishes.
This was a beautiful spot on her. Lovely woman.
Just, WOW!!! She is in her element. I luv it.
I'm thinking of all the amazing and trend-setting outfits and accessories Kelis wore during her musical career. And even here within the context of her culinary passion, she accents her story with this cool plantain shirt, matching green nail polish, hoop earrings. Older, more "mature", and less flamboyant perhaps... but still so creative and stylish.
What a gifted woman 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The ARCHITYPE honey! My muse for hair since high school & ill be 33 in 10 days so what's that tell you?!! LEGENDARY. I mean.....bih had Nas fine ass obsessed with her, cmon now
I was just telling my boyfriend, I see why he was never the same after her 😩
I think it's a damn shame that oxtails have become somewhat of a delicatessen. Like Kelis said, it's something the wealthy would throw away, but black folks perfected and made them flavorful. It's a shame something that was thrown away, something poor folks found useful for consumption has become soooooo ef'n unaffordable now. Oxtails usually have a generous amount of meat on them, as well as sometimes larger bones. Because of their weight, and folks who could give two f@cks about eating them then, now desire them. Many people now can't afford them and/or like myself, refuse to pay the asking price per pound for them. Same applies to chicken wings, short ribs, and pot roast. Bougie folks would never be caught consuming such things. Now, the desire for these foods are making them overpriced. My, how quickly foods that were common for poor folks to eat have become outrageously over priced. It's a pity. The amount of money generated from the sale of these foods by those who have seen the opportunity for exploitation is just sinful. SMGDH!
FACTS!🎯
It's that way about everything. They never want it until WE make it look good, taste good, add swag to it and etc... with clothes, dance, music, style Periodt! But THEY do not like giving us credit for anything. It's sad and terrible how THEY steal from us and go upsell it times 10. Tell the real reason why!!!
@@beemonique8466 PLUS SHORT RIBS and HAM HOCKS!!!!! Damn when I was a kid (back in the 50’s-60) chicken was expensive so we had oxtails and short ribs, neck bones and other cheap cuts of meat and a hell of a lot of green, grits, beans, turnips, corn potatoes, okra peas and chicken once in a while, fried, or as chicken and dumplings were a special dish on special days, like Sunday, or a picnic. AND YOU better NOT leave no meat on that bone. My folks ate the Gristle, lol You could hear my aunt Clyde and grandma chewing that gristle from across the room!!!
Real talk💯 not to mention that oxtails cost an arm and a leg these days!
Right
I'm glad she was able to get that word in towards the end. I'm constantly sick of hearing how am I aware of something? Or how did I know that? Like seriously, black Americans can be informed, enlightened, educated and down right cultured.
LOVE HER!!! She seems to be beautiful inside and out!
I didn’t know that she was this awesome I love her even more.
Love her energy! Such a positive soul!
She is glowing you can tell she has found her happy place it just shines through her I'm happy for her

My bf is from Charleston and introduced me to red rice. It is soooo good!
*Shes amazing! Talent + energy = Kelis*
I love oxtail stew and it’s getting very expensive.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽My uncle (now deceased) was one of those guy's (along with his son's) who was from the south (originally) who made his home in Brooklyn, N.Y. who had food trucks! Kelis's comment brought back a flood of memories. Bittersweet.
We had a farmer that we called watermelon because he would bring all types of fruit and vegetables but what stood out most was his SEEDED watermelons. Man do you know how hard it is to find a watermelon or a cucumber with seeds these days.
That's so cool

*African-AMERICAN 🇺🇸
@@mstaz1688 lol..smart ass you are...
But really fundamentally from African roots lovey😂👍🙈❤😘
But not her Gullah roots cuz she's not Gullah Geechee though 🙄
@@nobuhlekhumalo1903 No he corrected you right!!! This video and about Gullah Geechee culture which is American culture of the descendants of American slaves.
@Ibibo Ibiene first off ....she didn't make rice and beans so yeah um 🙄🙄🙄🙄. Red rice is not rice and beans. And as we were sold into American slavery by Africans for material gain by them.....we can call ourselves whatever we feel like calling ourselves. But what we are...those of us that are that is....are American descendants of slaves. We have our own unique culture which is based off the circumstances of being an amalgamation of all the various African tribes we were sold from to white slave traders (let me repeat again....sold to white slave traders by fellow Africans not captured like in Roots the movie). So depending on where we were forced into chattel slavery after being sold by people who looked like us for material gain🙄, we were not formally trained in English and so created the combined language that would only happen if people who weren't naturally supposed to be forced together were forced to communicate in English with various African languages as their mother tongue. That created it's OWN unique culture, language and food. Using ingredients here which are not African ingredients, combined from various experiences HERE. Y'all narcissist think everything is an applause back to Africa. Well just like American descendants of slaves are owed reparations for what happened here, Africans who profited from selling us into slavery owe us too. So I'd be much quieter about popping loud about things you chose not to educate yourself about. Trust we'll come around to y'all for y'all part soon enough.
I can listen to her talk all day!!! 🙌🏾🖤💪🏾
