Is that the actual ethnicity of the character in this version? I noticed that a lot of the characters have darker skin complexions. (Keith even reads Asian to me.) I'm really surprised people weren't butt-hurt over that change, but I also think it's awesome that the creators did it!

Really doubt it. Considering how careful the creators were with the reboot in order to cater to older Voltron fans, I really don't think they would be so progressive as to include the gays. It's a nice thought though
+Nicole Maj at the same time, Legend of Korra was pretty damn progressive in that department (and Dreamworks has an okay history as well with stuff like El Dorado) and there's been a few teases within the show (I cradled you in my arms) and the comics as well (jealousy thy name is Keith.) I don't think it's likely but I wouldn't rule it out altogether.

I went into the show, expecting to find it boring and garbage. Mainly because I'm not a fan of sci-fi or robots. First episode was kinda meh at first, but then I went from s1 ep9 to the end of season 2 within about 12 hours or less 2 days after watching the first episode.

Negative Zoom Actually, the idea of fusing giant robots isn't really new, plus, the Japanese source material of Voltron and power rangers are owned by toei (Beast king go-lion/ 1984 & Super sentai/1975), the super robot addition was suggested by marvel when they helped toei produced super sentai in the late 70's with the Spider-man toku series.

The fact 25 is somewhat inaccurate.
Pidge was always a male on the old series in the american version, however, he was a female disguised as a male on the japanese version.
So the new series actually follows the original plot twist.

Personally, Shiro seems a lot older. Not just because of how he looks but because of how he acts. It's safe to say that he is older, even by a few years. I still like the idea of him being in the 20-25 year old range. He seems more experienced as well as more able to become a leader. He clearly looks at least 20 or above. Definitely not a teenager. In fact, most seniors are not even teenagers. Most are already adults so technically, they are adults, maybe excluding Pidge who may be 1 or 2 years behind.

Koncel Actually, there's some stuff that contradicts the ages. From the official descriptions of the show/comic/etc (5 teenagers), to a video from a comic con (Shiro being 25, Pidge 14, and Hunk,Kieth,Lance being late teens) and if we remember right, others from VLD stated their opinions on the ages.
It's gotten to a point where the hardcore anti-shaladins are harassing the VLD Crew and Voiceactors (Josh Keaton was the current one after his interview with Afterbuzz).
So, we'd be wary of any age stuff for now until stuff is actually clear and doesn't contradict eachother. (Which might not be for a long time)

Voltron: Legendary Defender feels like finally getting to visit an old friend after an extremely long time. They couldn't have done Voltron any more justice if they tried. I was extremely excited when I first hard about the show; I'd been waiting for another Voltron for quite some time, and they didn't let me down as a fan of the series. I can't wait for Season 3 :D Oh, and my favorite Paladin is Pidge. Well, it's a toss-up between Pidge and Hunk. I will admit I was a little surprised to see that they had gender-swapped Pidge, but the initial shock wore off after only a few minutes. Somehow, it just feels right, now. I remember watching this as a kid. When I saw their was a Netflix series, I didn't even bother because.....Netflix reboot. One day I had to babysitt my brother and I had to pick something for us to watch, so I chose this. I think it was the point where I realized this was the same animation as Avatar was the point where I knew I needed the entire weekend to binge watch the series
