HAHA. Interesting perspective! It's got SO MUCH more than that though. It's a crazy and pretty interesting feature set for a small format console at this pricepoint.
I agree nice preamps. I’m having issues MW USB randomly glitching, I think it’s because poor DAC thermal design. I patch my 18i20 interface into it on 8 channels via patchbay and that works fine :)
@@miekwavesoundlab that’s a bummer about the glitching. I hope you got it sorted. I just ordered a 1608. The built-in USB was kind of an afterthought for me. I was sold on the high-headroom preamps and the group outs. Planning to use the group outs to a MOTU ultra lite to do some quasi-multitrack recording.
I would be happy to pay 2-300$ extra if it could do multitrack recording. It would be my perfect mixer. Other hybrid mixer that do multitrack recording, have some negative points. E.g. the Onyx series has no compression nob, nor sub groups, but 2 faders for the stage monitors. On our fixed installation, I really like to have the connections at the back of the console - especially the outputs! I would like to put a cover over it without having the wires in my way. I also like the 2x4 subgroups and the 4 aux xlr outputs. When using a multicore, one needs always adapters for the aux buses and often it is not even clear if they are symmetrical trs outs...
Yeah that makes sense.... I just try to see the strengths of the console and keep that in front of me.... I use it for those purposes. Letting it be what it is, it can be a powerful tool. Kinda like the old school approach to recording. It requires commitment. So you do lose the chance to edit and "remix" later, but it makes your up front setup more important. When recording, you've got to commit at some point... This just happens to require it right after the console output. 😎🤓. Gotta get it right!
Yeah I mention the outputs on another video and routing directly to an interface. But some argue that if you can do that, you may as well just bypass the mixer and go direct to the interface. ... But this is the way I have mine setup. Routing the many keyboards that I have plugged in through the 8 additional outputs.
@@JuliusDeBerryJr I'll be using mine to capture 8 track reel-to-reel recordings to the card, then on to the computer for editing. Final editing on the Model 24. A few extra steps, sure, but I think I'll get the best of all worlds this way - analog sound, VSTs, cut 'n' paste, etc etc. Traditional one-track-at-a-time stuff will go through the desk for the analog sound that my Focusrite just can't match. I'll be selling the Focusrite and Behringer expansion seeing as the Model 24 has all the ins and outs I'm going to need 🙂
I can't seem to get the compressor to work properly..? Turn the knob (with a mike application) and it doesn't sound like anything is happening ? Tried editing the parameters.. nothing seem to be happening ? Suggestions anyone ?
I'm sorry, but I don't have the console in my possession anymore. So it's kinda hard for me to walk you through it step by step. I have one at one of my churches though. I'll check Sunday. Do you have it engaged? (Turned on)
@@JuliusDeBerryJr I think so..? On the fare top left it says ON..? But can't seem to find a way to select that..? How do you select that to say off or On ?
if you have mics that require phantom power and others that don't is that a problem as it is universal phantom, also is the usb on the back going into the computer? if so is it discrete channels in or is it summed to left and right. I would love them to be discrete
Hi thanks for watching. I asked my Korg rep about the Phantom power. I'm going to copy my question from the email and then copy the response. So you get the info direct. (This will come over two post).
My question: What was the thought process behind the phantom power switch being applied across all channels? Should guys still feel safe using the console in an application where they have drum mics connected.... And condensor mics for overheads (which would require phantom power) and then sm57s on snare... which would not require it. (For example) This question has come up and in going to address it in the first video. I wanted to get your thoughts on it.
Yes, Phantom is harmless to a non-phantom mic: Phantom power is a dc voltage (11 - 48 volts) that powers the preamplifier of a condenser microphone. ... A balanced dynamic microphone is not affected by phantom power; however, an unbalanced dynamic microphone will be affected. Although the microphone will probably not be damaged, it will not work properly
As far as the USB, it is summed to L/R. It doesn't have a multitracking option directly via USB, but the group outs can definitely help in this manner. Quite a bit actually.
@@JuliusDeBerryJr thank you for answering. I may be interested in this board. Was hoping though to find a discrete channels. It has everything else I need though
I have 1 question though. How is it for studio work? Does it give that console vibe to the audio when after ya mix it and etc? It seems bad ass and was looking.
Here is a video I did with it in studio using it to process drums from my DAW (Logic)... Let me know how this makes you feel. ua-cam.com/video/95kT_jH6A0U/v-deo.html
For the stereo channels (right side of the console faders) there is a mic/line switch. The left side of the console faders section the input is EITHER mic or line. Depending on which one you select and input using. Also page 9 has some information about how to the console knows if you are using mic vs line. Here is a link. www.korg.com/us/support/download/manual/0/853/4578/ Hopefully it helps. Let me know if there is any other info you need. Thanks for watching.
No not through USB. Well unless you record two mono tracks and maybe pan the two hard left and right.... But there are no multitrack recording features on this console. (Alone). There are methods to do it, but you will still need an interface.
I don’t get how is it usable in a studio recording environment. For example: if I wanna record a drum I won’t be able to mix it properly after the recording, since I only get the summed stereo output via usb. Multitrack is mandatory in recording studios, in my opinion, specially if you work with human musicians! It’s a real shame, since the mixer sounds great
Do you have another interface? All you have to do is use the outs and go into your interface (line in) then you can benefit from the pres in the SoundLink and multitrack into your DAW. You'd get 8 outs (or you can group them however you want...) Maybe do a stereo pair for the overheads and then you get 6 mono for kick, snare, toms, etc... You can get alot done... Seriously.
I use the SoundLink in a studio environment to submix keyboards and drum machines... I have the outs grouped and connected to my interface directly. Works well.
Oh ok. Gotcha. Yeah that's not a great application for this console. Hey but... Don't forget you can always get your drums sounding crazy AND PRINT the mix. Lol. Takes a confident individual but def has been done. Good luck though. Keep me posted on how everything turns out.
@Michae Thompson @michae Thompson I spoke to someone from Korg they have something in the pipeline to help with racking the unit. Check back for more info in about 60 days from this post.
