I love how the guys aren't judgmental about the super impractical stuff as long as it's safe. A whole lot of "that's cool as hell but not for me" in this video which is a breath of fresh air in this community.
I really want to see you guys make that sunken car thing. You've done high car, you've done low car, now time for the lowest car. That would be hilarious.
I have refitted turbos, changed my own clutches and numerous over car mods and repairs, but never lowered it, because of the sheer amount of speed bumps and potholes in the UK.
I love how Mr. Sandros expresses true happiness on this video. You could see that the happiest moments in his life were while living the low life. Beautiful human moment.
Feel like I'm alone in thinking low does not look better and is not cooler, particularly camber, but I still like watching stuff about it! Even as a kid playing Underground 2 I never dropped my rides all the way.
You're absolutelly right. I mean, a car tastefully lowered can look really good but it shouldn't affect the handling and the car underside, otherwise it is just stupid. Camber is a hard pass, even a little fucks up the entire car and makes you look like a retard
People can do whatever they want but don't expect me to like your ridiculous stanced car lol Sure I like a good lowered car but not these crazy ground scraper ones
Snapback like shown at around 5:40 is no joke. With a tow strap like that, you can easily get a nasty injury as in going to the hospital. When talking stuff like navy ships, it can and will kill you. I remember being told at Great Lakes that the nylon lines (up to 3", hemp is used for the largest, or at least this was what we were taught 20 years ago) used by the USN can extend up to 40% when under tension. They also showed us a video where they intentionally broke a line, with a bunch of dummies in the positions crew would be in and that line utterly obliterated them. Personally I had this happen when I was trying to get a buddies car out of a snowbank. We were lucky nobody was near the tow strap.
The ones with the ridiculously flaired out wheels always give me a chuckle. They must go through tires every 3 to 6 months considering they are continuously putting all that stress on the sidewalls of the tire (which they were not designed for). Years ago there was a super low lowrider that used to blast through my mom and dad's neighborhood WAY over the posted 25 mph speed limit. This happened a lot, so the community got together and petitioned the city to put speed bumps in (the ones that are 4 or 5 feet wide that go all the way across the road). A few days later we hear old speedy zipping through and I *_RAN_* to the window to witness what was about to happen. You guessed it: A horrendous cashing sound as his front spoiler was yanked from the car and he bottomed out big time. I laughed until my sides hurt.
One time as kids we built сосk-аnd-bаlls shaped snowmen around some 20 inch diameter steel pipes dug into the ground and some old fat dude with a red face tried to smash one of them with his brand new SUV😂. Almost made it through the windshield.
Apparently if you aren't getting stuck, your car isn't really low? Seems like the thought process that's going on in some of these clips. Hey, not that I don't love Sandro as much as all the rest of ya, but I have to give props to Paul, really like the mature energy he brings to the channel, and the radio-ready voice!
The strut tower breaking is super common in E36s. You can get a replacement panel and weld it in right along that rust proofing line on the outside of the tower. They're not that bad. The back shock mounts do the same thing
I live in a rural rea in the great lakes region. People have stared doing this with trucks as well. Just the other day, I saw a 2006ish F150 that was lowered, with a widened track, and stretched OFFROAD TIRES with a TON of negative camber. The thing was positively shuddering side to side as it went down the road. Truly astonishing. I made haste to pass and get as far away as possible. Can't imagine that thing is still on the road. The absurdity.
Paul is like the car dad that is just looking out for the best for their son. He just wants to make sure your safe and text or call when you get there.

Being a huge science nerd, springs basically have 3 forms of compression. -Elastic, that's the prime purpose of a spring, do deform and pop back to the same position over and over. No permanent deformation -Plastic. Plastic deformation is when an object is pushed passed the tipping point and it will no longer bounce back. Imagine a slinky stretched too far. It's misshapen now. -The third type is basically "setting" the spring. When you heat it(at a factory for example) you are able to "set" the spring to a position in which it will always want to be. The guy heating his spring at home was trying to compress then "re-set" the spring so instead of being more extended, it would favor the new position without breaking. Fair warning, for high load materials like springs on cars, it's very possible to instead weaken the material. Without knowing exactly what you're doing, it's quite dangerous. Assuming he did his homework, it's pretty genius tbh.
I love how they always bring their mechanics pals to be on the shows for them to sit there and watch the crew give us the breakdown and even to the technical terms.
This series is honestly amazing. I love the donut hosts. They were a great introduction to the channel and getting people over from the main one. In a little while, you guys should move Sandro to the lead host position and have him engage with other mechanics, then bring the donut hosts in on the side
Been driving lowered cars all my life. Never thought it would carry over to off roading. You get really good at approach and break over angles driving a lowered car in a parking garage or steep drive way. I love LOW or HIGH anything but stock.
My wife has a Honda fit that was lowered before she bought it. Those scrap metal trucks was dropping junk off the back and took out a BMW tires and put a hole in her oil pan. She drove probably a mile to get off the freeway and stop somewhere safe. That Honda is still running like a champ 6 years later
Suspension geometry is set up to be balanced from the factory. Lowering it is almost always going to screw up the ride and performance. You'll probably chew through tires every 50 km. Simply lowering your car does definitely NOT create "better handling" as this "pro mechanic" claims @ 4:00 In fact, it does the opposite...
absolutely make one of those, but put your own weird twist to it (suspension above the chassis for example) make it like a 3/7 day build thing, whole team chopping it down and rebuilding it
For Super Low Cars with scraping exhausts (as they are not high performance fast cars as lowering too much has a severe negative effect on Handling & Braking) Then you can Change the shape of the Exhaust Pipe to a Flat OVal as the gases in pipe only care about the Total Diameter and Volume not the Shape. 3" pipe squashed down to only 1" height (Oval) wise will have the same flow as round 3" pipe, but will give extra 2" clearance.
Lowering your car can improve your handling but simultaneously be responsible of sudden swaying of cars because those 8mm and 2cm ground clearance can suck a lot of air underneath your car to actually lift it in an unbalanced way responsible for swaying wobble of car or steering of tyres on its own
In the 90s i wanted to improve the handling of my Mercedes W124. I had the small I4 engine in it. I wanted it stiffer and less lean outwards in the corners. So i don't lower it, i ordered the suspension parts of the I6 engine wagon. The springs and shocks had to hold more weight in front and back. So they were stiffer and harder with my leightweight 1280 KG Mercedes. After installing, it had the same height and drove like it would run on rails. Today, i own a Toyota, and i got some gas operated shocks for it instead of oil. The car is more comfortable and stiffer at the same time. Cause small movements "disappear" completely, and long pressure like corners will result in a stiff behavior. That is possible with a progressive spring and without lowering the car.
@@devilsadvocate1441 fr, why would I spend hundreds on tires every year when instead, I could buy new suspension parts and make the car more comfortable, or make it handle better, or both!
LoL! I had an "discussion" with a dude online when he showed his car with something like 30 degree camber, with wide ally wheels and stretched tires. I told him he had compromised the handling, but he insisted that there was almost no change, he had done a track day with it . . .
I remember, some 15-ish years ago, some car modder guy moved in where I lived. Didn't think much of it, before, one day, I watched him drive a stark white pickup truck. Then I saw him stop, and have to drive at a 45 degree angle over a speedbump, because he'd lowered the car so much it couldn't clear a normal speed bump. Fun times.
I've never tried to lower a car. I've lifted a truck. Lifted 4x4s have their own issues. I knew a dude who had a lowered S10, he had hydraulics so he could get in and out of his driveway. It would bounce too. Bounce it too high and bust it, fun fun! I think too much camber looks silly, not to mention how small your contact patch is... I like the stance of a 70 Roadrunner with 15" 60s on the back and 14" 70s on the front, and of course it gotta have Cragar SS mags! Appropriate rim/tire combo for the year of the vehicle. I have four nice fat 60s on my 02 Durango, on 17" factory Dodge mags. I just put a new front driveshaft on it last week, which reminds me, I gotta get under there and retorque them there bolts, but I digress...
i heard alot online about e36s getting cracks in their strut/shock towers when pushed too far, so no suprise lowering it too far makes it punch right through.
@4:59 mark was a friend and that was in Gatlinburg at the slammed enuff car show someone even set his car on fire. The FULL back story is that people where hatin SUPER hard even to the point of setting his car on fire
Coil over shocks are not designed to change the ride height of the car, they are designed to alter the characteristics of the suspension (corner weight, rebound capacity, spring rate, etc). Can they be used to lower the stance a little?...sure. There isn't anyone running a true coil over (Penske, Feal, Koni, Afco) who would dare use the coil preload to adjust for "stance". If you want to drop it low.....l-o-w...and still retain driveability start with aftermarket spindles, lower control arms, etc. Getting stance from coil preload is how you wind up putting the rod through the bottom of the sock or something similar.
2:08 All tires have exactly 7 PSI or more... De-beading would occur naturally with driving + low PSI. That is like saying, " That car is running bc it has gas". Wild comment to include in the video
We lowered our cars way back in the good ol days. We used aircraft parts or tailgate parts for hydraulic lifts. We would cut or heat springs for static drops.
I get what yer saying. It's a whole thing. Personally, it's a trade-off I'm not willing to make. I prefer to stance in January during a blizzard. Civic with factory height, narrow snow tires, and a tow strap. And hatchback. I've changed more tires, hauled so many vehicles out the ditch, and just been there so buddy's family can warm up till help arrives. Then ride at full speed. To each their own.
6:00 knew a guy like that. He had to plan his route so that his car can drive there. He had to take a 25 min detour for a 10 min drive because there was a railway crossing he'd get stuck on.
