- How to crochet the Mattress Stitch Seam.
The mattress stitch is an easy stitch perfect for seaming the sides and underarms of garments. It creates a flat, practically invisible seam.
You will learn how to stitch the mattress stitch on the top and sides of crochet stitches as well as tips to improve your seams.
This video is helpful for beginners who have never used the mattress stitch as well as intermediate crocheters who need tips to make their seams cleaner.
I used this stitch in a few of my crochet patterns such as the Be Spotted Crochet Tee (pictured in the video) and Stripe Blocked Cardigan.

Tru
Yeah, and it's very useful for sweaters!
I'm glad you said it doesnt have to be precise. I was out here panicking because I thought it had to be perfect
Thank YOU for being the first youtuber to actually make this easy to understand!!!
Thank you because literally no one explained it except you ♥️♥️♥️
I usually never comment on youtube but you are a life saver! I looked through hundreds of videos on how to stitch without a clue on how to do it and was about to give up on my project all together. You made it so simple and stress free, and the final product ended up beautiful! You are so easy going and I bet your friends and family love spending time with you, thank you so much!
Great tutorial! Seaming the sides always caused fear and trepidation. Thanks for the clear, concise explanation.
I've been looking for a process like this for months. So glad I found this. I made a granny stripe pattern for a jacket and have been struggling to find the best way to join the side seams. Thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you so much for showing the side seem. I was going crazy trying to do this and you made me feel like I could do this😊
This is exactly the tutorial I needed! Thank you.
You're so adorable! Makin' up new words 😋 "This yarn is splittier than I thought" 😂 This tutorial was SUPER helpful. Thanks for your time & energy.

That was very helpful, especially the side seams! Thank you!
Thank You! Beautiful explanations to a Beginner!
Thank you for showing the sides, this is what I've been looking for. I'm not sure if this is the mattress stitch, at least I know a different one, but this looks great so I'm just gonna do what you recommend. Thank you!
Thank you for this simple explanation. 😊
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial 😊😊😊
Thank you so much! I loved this tutorial and I can't wait to try it on my next project.
Hi MaryBeth. I'm working on your Be Spotted top right now. This was a very helpful video. However, I do have one question. How do you finish this off? Do you split your yarn and tie it off? I wouldn't think that just working it in would make it stay put. TIA
Hi Peggy, I'm so happy to hear you are making the Be Spotted Top! If I am using a slippery yarn then I work the end in for an inch or two and then tie a knot on the back somewhere where it won't show. Then I work in another few inches. Thank you for asking!
Finally! 🙌🏽
I do not know how to crochet at all! But I purchased a skirt that’s one size too big. Without cutting into the skirt, can I use this technique to sew my side seams tighter? Thanks
How would you do a top and a side. Like and arm to an arm hole?
I love that color green. Would you mind sharing what yarn that is you used? Ty for the tutorial.
what about half double crochet. one or 2?
How do i seam the other side since it can’t be laid side by side
