When I was 11 we had a school trip to line the route outside the University and cheer on this great man; for most of us he was the first black person we had ever seen. This man commanded respect and I am so glad we gave it.

This should be a part the curriculum of every school in the country, if not the world.
I am proud to come from a part of the country which conferred this honour on a truly great man.

I was at the Vice Chancellors Lodge in Newcastle, on the morning of 13th November 1967, when Martin Luther King visited the house for a "coffee morning" before travelling down to the University (to Kings Hall) for the presentation of his Honourary Degree from Newcastle University.
My parents worked for the Vice Chancellor, and met Dr King that morning.

That must have been a surreal experience, seeing this great man in Newcastle. To think in less than 6 months he would be no more! Sobering thoughts..

A well crafted speech from a man whose importance has been rightly magnified by his untimely death. I noted the powerful appropriate use of alliteration and the balance of structured statements. We don't have communicators like this today. But evil does not silence them.

    Hi there,
I would like to thank you for uploading the video of Martin Luther King's honorary degree reception - it is of particular interest to me as the even is the focal point of my dissertation for this, my final, year of studies.
I have noticed a comment that says you were at the VC's lodge for MLK's 'coffee morning', I would be fascinated to hear more about it!
I would appreciate if you could add me as a contact on UA-cam so we may speak more about the issue.
    Thank-you,
    Fran Glover,
