@@Tipticklerrr haha, you misunderstand. I don't think his drumming is solid, it's superb! And of course, on top of that he's writing the songs and rapping and singing.
People keep saying talented like he wakes up doing this amazing work. Yes talented but also work ethic. Hours and hours and hours of hard work. Don't ever forget that. Talent alone does not get you on this level. Salute
You are 100% correct. You practice, learn, practice, fail, learn, practice, success, learn, fail learn again. Still talented. No one is saying he didn't practice his craft. I don't care how much practicing one does, if the skill, the talent isn't in them, their practicing will be an exercise in futility.
For those who aren't drummers, Anderson is a very talented gospel, funk, and pop drummer. You can see in his playing that he is not so comfortable with traditional Jazz drumming. I'd love to see him get the dynamics of this style down and incorporate more Jazz into future material. Either way he is an absolutely special, and unique beast of a human being.
Makes sense, I can tell he's good but yeah he's making some decisions I wouldn't typically expect, often favouring a solid backbeat over syncopation and polyrhythm.
Hang on one second "BDL" you might have to look around a bit, There's a clip of Anderson playing with a trumpeter that I'm sure is one of his band mates, for I've seen them together on more than an one session, they were playing a standard Freddie Hubbad track, the title escapes me at the moment, and they sounded pretty danm good, mind you he wasn't burning up the drums...say Elvin Jones style or a Billy Cobham but he held his own...let's just say he gets it. For a self taught drummer he's got some chops, you can tell he put the work in.
@@TheBoogie1127 Absolutely great cd/album, I hope you’ve checked some of his other albums, “first light” and “skydiver” are also great...and you being a trombone player hope you get chance to listen to any “J.J. Johnson” if that doesn’t inspire you I don’t know what will, keep practicing 🙂

Wow! I’m ashamed that I never heard of Anderson, the first time I heard of him was during the last Super Bowl when they showed a commercial of him saying that he had several Grammys...I think it was beer as, I can’t believe as a drummer I slept on this dude. 👀👀👀 I had no idea! I only knew about his song Come Down when he hit the scene. But after that I never really paid him any full attention. I had definitely been sleeping on this man's skills. I finally see the light. 😄😄😄 Thank you for this.
Crazy. I saw him on the ‘16 xxl with lil dicky and desiigner and didn’t like him. Cause he was not in his element. But damn I made a mistake. Dude can groove.
When I hear this music it makes me think of the times I was on hold waiting to speak with someone who spoke English or on ground floor headed to the top floor.
Imagine going to a random jazz bar, and the drummer is Anderson Paak
Dream come true
I would lose my mind

It's criminal how much talent this man has.
unfair!
hard work and commitment to his craft

Rapping and singing while playing solid drums... World class
solid? pfff
been doing that since the dawn of time.

The way he plays the ghost notes with his fingers and then the down beat with the stick.... innovative! I would have never thought of that.
He probably borrowed it from Purdie, the originator of the Purdie shuffle
@@richardrowlandjr.3461 was just gonna say that. Give it Purdie!

That's actually a pretty common thing lmao, nothing too incredible, I do it all the time.
That solo in clip 3 tho? That's something crazy
Bernard Purdie did it before he did. This guy didn't invent that wheel, just borrowed from a spinning wheel already in motion.
