    I studied the photos at White Mountain Knives before buying one for myself a few months ago. Very much like Stedemon daggers, this one has the double guard that can be waved out of the pocket. Most people don't realize that folders set up with the double quillions have this ability. Great vid! 👊🗡️🔥 Great backstory on the Russian designer of this knife has well....

    I flinched when you stabbed the boot !! This looks like Ganzo / Firebird's best work to date. Really stepped up the design and details. Now to see if it is OK to bring to Australia...

  • @0zmosis2001
    @0zmosis2001 2 роки тому +9

    That's pretty impressive that Ganzo uses a hardened insert on a steel liner liner lock knife when they didn't have to just because it makes for a cleaner closing knife as well as adding to the longevity of this blade

    • @TheMonksDuo
      @TheMonksDuo 8 місяців тому

      @@wehrewulf I should’ve said not an EDC for me personally. You could EDC a sword if you wanted to. I look at the functionality of it, and overall outside of being a super stylish, stabby dagger it just doesn’t really serve the purpose as well as others do. Blade geometry doesn’t really lend itself well to slicing. It’s heavy and bulky. But this is all somewhat subjective. It may be exactly what someone is looking for in a EDC
      What it is though is an outstanding stylish design for a folding dagger. Really one of the coolest knives in my collection, I have 3 now.

  • @ScottieG59
    @ScottieG59 2 роки тому +5

    I find waving to the rear is clumsy and requires the knife to be repositioned for a useful grip. I prefer to wave forward. The knife will be in a reverse grip and immediately ready. Frankly, when I want a fast knife, I go fixed blade, preferably with a ring, such as with the Tops CUT 4, which I Scout carry at 10 o'clock, ring forward and reachable with either hand. The Benchmade SOCP is also a great option.

    • @ashsherman
      @ashsherman 2 роки тому +1

      I love that benchmade. The dagger edges are only like half an inch so i ground edges into mine more than half way down but still enough room to place a finger on the blade next to handle

    • @ashsherman
      @ashsherman 2 роки тому

      Best true combat knife. It was created cause Iraqis in hand to hand kept yanking soldiers kabars or their combat knives of choice and using against them.
      That Benchmade (originally Spartan Blades) fits in a molly, can be held with a pistol, just everything was thought of.
      And you don't need a big edge, the dullness makes the wound sooooo much worse by tearing, not slicing past the tip.

    My Kershaw CQC 4KXL with the Emerson wave is extremely quick to deploy. Problem is when a cop wants to see it, it's difficult to get out of the pocket without the blade opening. I'd like to have another in D2 instead of 8cr13mov on my current model.

    Ganzo has some great bang for your buck on knives and this one looks cool but not quite my style as I usually buy my blade's as tools first and foremost and the tabs would get in the way of that. Mind you for someone looking for a self defense knife on the cheap this would be a perfect fit. Quality along with fit and finish also looks great for the price. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

    I give it Emerson who came up with the original concept. Unless the ziptie on a Spydie came first. Who knows?
    The only issues I see with Emerson are the wave is TOO sticky. Even when I try to remove it out of my pocket carefully it sometimes half opens. It's a potential safety issue.
    Also the wave hook can wear your pant pocket over time and this knife looks like it would cause less wear on your pocket.

    I see a problem with this knife for self-defense. Since it's a dagger both sides of the blade looks the same. In a fight, close quarters, you might turn the knife to the unsharp edge thinking you're about the slice the assailant. You won't unless you're able to use the sharp point. A self-defense dagger needs to be sharp on both sides.

    That hesitation you had at the start of the video trying to get the knife to deploy is exactly why I don't care for emerson style openers for tactical situations.

      All folding knives in general are a bad choice for any tactical situation.
      Pepper spray or a gun should be the primary weapon used.
      Knives (preferably fixed blade full tang) are to be used as backup weapons only.
      Knives require close contact with the attacker (or attackers) and the fools that make up many juries view knives as attacker weapons. Makes for a harder legal battle.

    This is very similar to how Emerson knives work. Kershaw makes affordable Emerson clones. They work just as well and none of them are daggers...

    If I tried that, I’d probably slice my jeans down to the knee.
