The attachment with the threading is to screw onto the unit to deflate items, goose. I bought the first tiny pump 1 yr ago with button on the bottom. It clicks and is good..but the retaining screws for the fan came loose. What? Yep. Flextail sent out a pump 2x pro (best and most expensive). Happy days. Note: I use it daily. It lasted about 2-3 months. Stopped working. They sent another and the same thing happened. The bag, that looks so good, is so poorly made the stitching comes apart (on every device, every time). So, they sell hardshell cases for about the same price as most devices. Hard sell? Not for morons. 😮 The pump X2 pro has a light. But the shared power/light button is awful to turn on and soon fails. It happened exactly the same way with each one I got. Or, perhaps the motor just dies. Last night, I went back on Amazon and bought the older rectangular pump..whatever they call it. I would like to find another company that makes these because honestly, they breakdown after only a short while. My income is too busy going to the Australian tax office to spend on all this joyful living items agenda garbage. 🥴
As always, an excellent review. I have the older model without the light and sure do like it. As you said, I do not like introducing breath moisture into my inflatables and the "Tiny Pump" solves that issue excellently.
I got the tiny pump x as a Christmas gift this year. Used it that morning to stoke the fire in the fireplace! Worked great! Didn't even know there was one with a magnetic back, I use my olight baton 3's magnet all the time...
That comment about the t-shirt on top of the plastic pillow. Brilliant. I’ve a Trekology pillow that I use for motorcycle camping that will wear a t-shirt going forward. :) I’m so used to blowing up my pillow and thermarest that I’d be interested in other uses like campfire blower… etc. Thanks for sharing.
@@MarkYoungBushcraft I’m an ex smoker, so I’m still in the “Gosh, I can inflate the whole thing without hacking up a lung!” It’s a good review as always, and I expect I’ll own one before too many years have gone by. :) Cheers! Oh, I’m interested in seeing what camping gear Santa brought you. ;)
Personally I avoid the one with the light. It means I have to bring a power bank to charge it due to the light draining the battery if I use it as a lantern too; particularly on a multi day/location hike or canoe trip. I bring one of my Ledlenser lanterns, and some spare batteries (which are much lighter than a power bank) and a pump sack. Multifunction items have their use, but often they don't do the job as well as something purpose built for each task. Plus multifunction items add extra weight if I don't want/need that function.
I'd be curious to know if the weight of the pump and accessories as well as the bag of the x2 weighs more or less than the original pump x. My Tiny Pump X weighs 4.3oz or 117g with all accessories cord and bag included.
@@MarkYoungBushcraft I was curious as the attachments on the X2 look lighter than the original due to them not all needing to be necked down to a small output neck. I hope the next iteration has a modulating pump fan speed. I could see that being quite handy as a turbo for a small wood stove. All you'd need is a metal straw or something like that to keep the pump away from the fire.
Based on their website and the Amazon store, the Tiny Pump, Tiny Pump X, and Tiny Pump X2 are all current products, each gaining a little functionally respectively. They all appear to gain a fraction of an ounce, ranging from 2.82 to 3.3 ounces (pump only). All three have a 1300 mAh battery, though the X2 (at least on Amazon) claims upgraded electronics for better efficiency.
The fitting that you thought was for beach toys also fits my us military self inflating mattress and when you want to deflate the mattress with the flap you have to push inside. it holds the flap out of the way when using the pump to vacuum out the air.
Have you ever encountered a dangerous animal in the forrests in Nova Scotia? I've never tried sleeping on an inflatable pillow. I can't imagine that being comfortable. I love sleeping on down. I love sleeping under down as well. I am having a painful knee issue. An inflatable pillow might be just what I need to keep the knee elevated. I am surprised at the power of that tiny little pump. I went to check it out, saw the flame lampshade, and I had to have it. That is way too cool!!!
I have run into "potentially dangerous" animals including bears on more than one occasion and coyotes as well. Actually, they generally run the other way. I find if I add a shirt of sweater over the inflatable pillow, it is more comfortable. I do keep a small inflatable for my knees and it does help. Thanks for commenmting
I have the Max Pump 2 Pro model. They also can be used as a power bank. The larger Pro model has much bigger battery and light with longer run times and I use for inflating large dinghy or an inflatable kayak as well as camp light. Cheers
I think the one attachment you weren’t too sure of, is for frothing up your rampage coffees….😬I have been meaning to get something similar to this, thanks for posting. 🙏🏻✌️🇺🇸🇨🇦✌️
My big air mattress has a built-in pump, but it only seems to work if you pump it with your bare foot. Might be using your skin as a valve. Takes a LONG time. This would be a big improvement. BTW, I store myself-inflating mattresses under the bed, fully inflated. I only roll them when I'm preparing for a trip. Works much better.
I’m completely tapped out after Christmas, but I may pick one of these up for the spring. I car camp with the family, and room is really at a premium in a much too small car, and those Canadian tire pumps are just too big to bring, and my inflation bag doesn’t fit most of our gear very well. Unless you have any ideas on hacking inflation valves. Like a home made adapter video? 😉
Built in rechargeable batteries are a problem. It's better to have gear that runs on AAA or AA batteries that can be swapped without having to wait for a recharge.
G'day Mark, this device is a little ripper. Far better than anything that comes with a mat to my knowledge, + illumination + bellows, well worth the grams IMO. Dont think I'd ever have a need for suction, though since its inherent in the design, a nice bonus., you never know. Not a big draw on a power bank either; I assume the battery is not replaceable and wonder if it works whilst recharging ? Cheers Duke.
Not sure if the original had the light as well as the battery bank function. I understand that this version has a more powerful fan motor. Likely accounts for some added weight. Thanks for commenting
A year later this video is still serving it's purpose. Thanks, Mark.

I love the use of these for vacuum bags. The pump is indeed loud, but glad to know it's useful in many other applications.

I can confirm, it works great as a fire bellows, probably at the chagrin of your neighbor campers (it's annoyingly loud).
As I get older, I dislike making myself dizzy blowing up things and I consider myself in good shape. Thanks for commenting
