- Apple's 2013 Mac Pro was a classic case of form over function. Pro users were unable to upgrade the "trash can" or customize it to their liking. There were also thermal limitations that Apple didn't think about with this design. And 6 years after the revolutionary "trash can" design, Apple goes back to the cheese grater design.

Still have my “trashcan”I upgraded all kinds of stuff, never once had over heating issues. I record professional audio on mine and will keep it for a few more years which will give it 10 years of pro audio performance which doesn’t sound like a failure to me.

That trashcan is my actual workhorse. bought it second hand, it's got 64 gigs of ram, and I couldn't be more pleased with its speed. However a USB hub is almost a must.

Well, Jobs released the G4 Cube which was even more constrained than the thrash can. And the iMac.
I’ve made hundreds of thousands with this Mac Pro as it is so mobile ...so it guess it was unique enough.
The trashcan is at least decent compared to other competitors when it was released. They stopped releasing new ones that's why it gradually become a joke.
Bender Anglesmith do agree with that they did lower the price and up the specs tho. And it’s still capable depends why you are doing. I do some heavy 3D commercials and edit them on mine. But that also is dependent on the apps you use.

It still has a lot more expandability than and iMac. I view it as being halfway between an iMac and a Mac Pro. An added bonus is that it's super easy to transport and really isn't that much more difficult to bring places than a laptop.

At that point do you really think they care about $1000 dollars? If they already have a VESA setup they like, the monitor stand is optional. You're not the market, why do you even care?

I'd rather put a deposit on a house
10k can be a down payment on a 100k home, even a 200k if you get an FHA insured loan. While that seems like the more intelligent option for the rest of us, chances are the people who plan on buying this mac probably live in 500k-1M dollar houses.

I wish to know the price of each thing inside that $6000. According to people it the PC with same parts should cost $3300 maximum. If it really is 3300 what is the other 2700 for? paying little extra for brand name is common however 2700 is too much.

the trashcan is like a caricature of everything Apple always was (yes, including the Jobs years). It is the result when you folliw Apple's overall philosophy to its logical conclusion. Looks over substance. Designed obsolescence without access or upgradability. Unjustified price premiums for the specs. In a word: hype.

I think people are very hard on Apple for the trashcan Mac Pro. It was designed with Parallel computing in mind. Which was ahead of the time in 2013. FCPX, DaVinci Resolve, and several other programs now scale well for parallel computing across multiple GPUs and CPU cores. I get better performance in FCPX with two RX560 cards then one RX580.
Anyway, I am excited for the release of that updated model. That’s exciting.

Finally picked up a trash can Mac for $300, and a 12 core CPU for $25. Works fine for what I need.
The problem with this and 2016+ Macbook Pro's until recently was they ignored what PRO's needed, namely ports and upgradability, putting form #1, and performance around #5.
The trash can has been in production for 7 years. I’ve seen plenty of them used in media production. Can’t call that a failure.

It has always been my position that the trash can would have made for a nice consumer grade design, something of a modern take on the old G4 Cube design. It could have been outfitted and marketed as a step up from the Mac mini, as a midrange desktop Mac, and probably done pretty well as such, as it would not have needed such beefy silicon and could have run cooler as a consequence while still delivering what home, school and business users needed in a basic desktop Mac.
