Richie Havens should never have had such a tough life. You hear a song like like this and you can't ignore it. This is the first time I've really heard it.
Saw him live at my Freshman Year College Colloquium in 1968, at CCNY's Bernard Baruch School Of Business. A unique talent and person. Hung around long after singing to talk with anyone and everyone. This Ed Sullivan Show Video brought back warm memories, thats for certain!
I saw him play this song on the Johnny Carson show about the same time. Had never heard of him before. A fan ever since. RIP to a great, unique artist.
I must have seen Richie at least 6 times over the course of his career. I met and talked with him twice. He was as authentic as a human being as he was as a musician - a Mister Rogers for grown-ups.There was a woman that I shared a romantic interest with until she opined that Richie Havens could not sing. I have never seen or spoken to her since. Even then I did not suffer fools gladly.
I bought his album "Mixed Bag" in 1968 and I fell deeply in love with his voice, his music and his photograph. It is now more than 52 year later and his music still moves me and the great thing about modern technology is that now I can see him perform on UA-cam. Alas, there has never been a possibility to see him live in my country.
I'd never heard this version, of his, before. I'd only seen the black and white version from a UK 📺 show. I love the second 🎸. He fills the space perfectly. One of my favourites 😁😎
Always heard of him but was never familiar with his work. This song right here is the epitome of 60's music..and that driving beat in the background is awesome!
I love his great music and he was the opening act of Woodstock, a real legend. We would like to this channel upload The Band, CCR, The doors, Elvis, Janis Joplin and more rock.
@@artredoubt3629 That's a piece of history. My decades old concert memories seem to be characterized by impressions, so I can relate to your statement.
Had the privilege of seeing this amazing man at a free concert with about 500 other people. He was mesmerizing
Was it Woodstock?

Saw him open Woodstock, when no one else had the balls

I cry...
"High Flyin' Bird" was one of about ten songs Richie Havens performed in his opening set at Woodstock in August 1969.
Saw him there but I was too young to fully understand his significance, now I cry when I hear him.
