At the end of soul society arc, Jushiro couldn’t believe how far Aizen has fallen. He ended up being sealed away in the depths of soul society. Ukitake though had it way worse, he was cast into hell. The deepest of all places.
Ukitake was and is a paragon Shinigami and overall powerhouse, his ending up in hell is heartbreaking given who he was in his afterlife even if power is the game that gets you there. Tokinada being wary around him is unsurprising yet still telling, for Tokinada there were no limits and everyone is a potential victim.
Which is all the more surprising since Jushiro as a devoted officer of the system would have to undoubtedly submit to a great noble no matter what. Hell is a place of eternal agony until your humanity is stripped away. I think it’s made clear that Jushiro like the others succumbed to it and are now trying to destroy soul society. Which will be even more heartbreaking for the gang.
@@Grayson-Winchester Yes. Perhaps one of the top secrets in Soul Society's archives that brings death for being known is hell awaiting that powerful, and how the balancers are themselves vulnerable. In either case Ukitake ending up and being twisted is utterly tragic, but with the others not surprising given what horrors they committed to get the power that sent them there.
@@manuelacosta9463 Yamamoto and Unohana are the embodiment of the infamous phrase “ I will see you again in hell” They’ve been together for centuries and still are. It seems the universe were dismissive of their redemption. Yamamoto established the academy so that soul reapers could work to have a better future. Unohana became one of the best healer in history. She devoted herself to saving lives instead of taking them.
@@Grayson-Winchester Indeed. Regarding Unohana's redemption it was partly enacted through her actions as a life saving healer but it clearly only went so far. Especially since her only regret from her past, the only 'sin' on her part was that she was holding back another monster killer from becoming more powerful than he already was.
@@manuelacosta9463 Ukitake was the same. He even stated to have no regrets at the end. His story with Ginjo was only really explored after his death. Jushiro has always been like this. He was always more willing to sacrifice something in order to let something or someone else thrive. Like the anecdote of his twin fishes. He didn’t even want his nice to execute Chad as he was fond of him. And obviously didn’t want blood on Nano’s hand as it would be bad for her karma.

Their anatomy is similar to humans in many ways. In his case it’s basically spiritual tuberculosis. Also as a child he was likely vulnerable enough to get it.
Everything in bleach scales with Reishi, the soul society is just another universe/dimension like the Human World but with much more Reishi on it and it affects all living and no living beings.
@@Proaz15 Yeah, calling those worlds living and soul are misleading. It's another universe or the second dimension of the same universe. Reishi? Some kind of undiscovered "shadow" particles. Actually, scientists speculate about shadow universe because of distortions in basic matter.

Pernida is left hand of soul king he was fighting against Maturi, Kempachi and nemu so Ukitake without his illness he is monster
Ukitake must have hanged out with Itachi and got the lung virus 😢
Badass that is terminally ill is a common anime trope.
Great video as always
Thank you
RIP Ukitake 😢
Hell arc is passing baton arc and tournament arc.

shinigamis still have "human" limitations such as being vulnerable to poisons, needing oxygen and food to survive etc
