"The Maury Povich Show" did end up become a ratings grab during certain times, but Maury was previously serious journalist. He and his wife Connie Chung are one of the many inspirations I went to college for journalism. I remember an interview he did when I was a teenager when he was asked why he kept doing the DNA reveal shows. Maury said he understood it was sensational television, but he never wanted a child to grow up without knowing where they came from. He was actually the most respected out of all the tv hosts that had this kind of show at the time.
I love watching their reactions. These ladies are so wholesome it makes you realize how cringe some of those reveals were.

Exactly, I can't believe they even reacted to this. It has been debunked for a long time now that this show is scripted. It's only for entertainment. They should've just reacted to more episodes from Paternity Court because at least, that show has real prosecutors involved.

Am I wrong for saying this but it felt like in the episode a couple of times, they thought the man was the father but the woman wasn't the mother as they seemed confused as to why the women were shocked and leaving the studio stage and the fathers were rejoicing. I know they corrected themselves in an earlier clip but for the final clip they were saying "there's a possibility he's the father, right?".
Maybe the subtitle captions were incorrect, not sure.

As a kid, I totally bought into Jerry Springer, Maury, Steve Wilkos, and other similar dramatic talkshows of the time and laughed as much as I got invested. Nowadays, I look back like "God, I can't believe this crap used to entertain me."
I don't consider myself above those who enjoy it by any means. Watch what you like. Most reality TV is fake to some degree. I just feel naive and kind of dumb in retrospect for not noticing back then what an obvious production it was.
My younger self took it seriously, believed it was all real, and perceived the hosts as being righteous champions of truth exposing immoral behavior on national TV. At that age, I saw Jerry, Maury, and Steve as role models.
I guess, even without being aware of it in the moment, my suspension of disbelief changed as I got older. Today, I understand the appeal of such shows even for people who know they're staged. It simply no longer resonates with me.
As an American male, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near neither of those women.
