- Crabgrass Prevention in Lawns
How to control crabgrass you say? Crabgrass prevention is simple and can be applied as its own application or combo application of fertilizer with pre-emergent. Its most important to get your pre-emergent application down before soil temperatures crosses 50 degrees F. However, if you miss the temperature there are still immense benefits to apply the application because crabgrass will continue to germinate as the season progresses. Also note that this video uses a product which is a crabgrass preventer without fertilizer giving you flexibility to still use your favorite fertilizer and not one of the big box store combo products.
Below are links to standalone pre-emergents, combination fertilizer with pre-emergents and online sources you can use to track your soil temperatures.

Well done Russ. Spring has sprung and its show time 😁
Yes I’m chomping at the bit to get out and start cleaning my flower beds up, edging etc, just need a day off that isn’t filled with other commitments! 😄
Great timing on this content Russ! Four weeks from now I will be sparing my WDG65 liquid. Sunny days ahead for us all!
Yes we’re on the same program! Also got my first fert out, things are greening up. Seems like an early spring.
So true now us the time to put it down. Spring is near and the weeds are growing. Excellent information.
Agree have a great lawn season.
Good to see out there russ
Yes. As much as I enjoy the off season downtime, you realize how much you miss green grass, leaves, birds and flowers. Thankful spring is here.
Great content Russ! Getting close to 1,000 subs! Spring is definetly in the air, anout 2 more weeks and pre-emergent will be going down here in my area
Sounds like a plan. Got some fert out too. Spring is here ☀️
Never to late to apply. Later is better than never 😜. Your doing good buddy, close to that big milestone number. 👊
Thanks Christian. Long slow haul. I hope to change presentation style this year, hard to break old habits. My work schedule may alter giving me a little more time to put some additional effort and planning into videos.
@@LawnJourneys I am in the same boat. I have been off work since June last year, but I retire in August. I’m still trying to figure out a method. Lol. Be safe
Go Russ go… almost there to the infamous number …. Waiting a little longer here for my pre emergent.
Long slow road 😜. My soil temps gust got into 50’s, I like to get it out a little earlier but just didn’t have the time. Watching your progress!
Thanks man !for the awesome videos , this is your new subscriber just quick question, I overseeded my lawn last fall , can I put Prodimine this spring? Thanks
I overseeded last fall and am applying pre-emergent. Some will say no because it can cause some root thinning but I can say I’ve never noticed any problem with heavily seeded area from last fall.
Appreciate your following the channel, I enjoy making videos.
I I apply 2 apps do i apply both at 3lbs per 1000 sq ft?
Art: You can. According to the label you can apply up to 6lbs/1000ft2 annually (blue grass). Label recommends minimum of 2lbs/1000ft2 but suggests 3lbs/1000ft2. I went with 3. I will do a second treatment approximately 45 days from initial at same rate. My second app will probably be liquid form, just because I like to backpack spray and will combine it with some bio stims. The goal is to extend the crabgrass barrier into summer, where it will no longer germinate due to higher soil temps. If you have a crabgrass problem its worth implementing, in my opinion. Good luck.
