@@junkboxhero4825 No kidding , disgraceful . Dave is one the most iconic drummers ever, here they have an opportunity to talk and let him speak. They threw it down the drain . Dave also happens to be a very very kind and humble guy. These guys f up big time.

I like Dave in Slayer, some of the most memorable drumming patterns and fills to ever be scratched in wax. On the other hand the new Repentless album is some of the best Slayer music since Seasons in the Abyss and Paul Bostaph has really solidified a style of his own in the band on this one. I always thought he was a solid player but very kind of utilitarian or just a timekeeper in whatever band he was in. Kind of like Glen Drover, no style of his own, just a timekeeper but again, A damn good timekeeper! Now, however, on the new Slayer, Paul has just absolutely exploded with creativity all over the songs and forged an Identity for himself. Some of the fills he does and some of the tricky ass time things he does in the rhythms are just so freaking cool!!!
I am absolutely sick that Jeff is gone and I will always qualify any comments Im about to make about how good the new band is with saying that. I am absolutely sick Jeff is gone but I find that it is very cool, in hindsight, how slowly and rightly approached the continuation of the band was while he was sick and then after he passed. It all came together, it seemed, in such an organic way and because of that I find that the new incarnation of Slayer is something to behold in awe. Fanboy me if you want but its true. Ive not been able to stop listening to the new disc since it dropped over a month ago. Its just the most well recorded and brutally played collection of songs I have heard in memory.
But let me bring it back around with Dave again. Iconic drummer, still tons left to do in his life and career and will forever be known for that brutal assault he propelled that band into fame with. So Cheers to Dave and Cheers to Paul...both talented beyond belief!

Yes he is, but fans seem to underestimate the fact that he quit the band so many times and that he always victimizes himself. And the rest of the band welcomed him back many times, although he never was 100% commited to Slayer. I am more of a James Hetfield approach "you are not happy? you want to do side - projects? Go fuck your self for life!". He war right about Newsted. Dave is very lucky that the others havent treated him like this and of course the fans welcome him back. He is anyways a great drummer and nice fellow

I would agree with the Hanneman part, but only as far as songwriting goes. Performance wise, Slayer is just as good with Gary Holt....the guy is a monster.

Evan, you nailed it. Nobody wants to say it out loud (respect for the dead, etc) but jeff's playing went way downhill toward the end. Kerry played all the rhythms on the last few albums. I was lucky enough to play a few small festivals that Slayer was headlining in Europe in 2009. Had a killer spot on the sidestage, like 15 feet from Hanneman. Thought I'd struck gold, boy was I wrong. it sounded downright awful. it was like finding out there's no Santa Claus. They're MUCH tighter with Gary. The writing just sucks without Jeff.
So how is 1:30 of stupid jokes about banging chicks "opening up about Slayer"? Misleading title is misleading.

Its weird how bands become these businesses...its not how people think...theyre not just dudes hanging out with each other and getting off on jamming together. Its become a business and how they make a living. The Slayer thing is just like the Black Sabbath thing. All about the money. You'd think it'd be whoever is the band is getting an equal share but it doesn't work like that. Not only was Lombardo such a great drummer that he created a style that is easily recognizable to most drummer's ears but he worked hard playing that shit live. Drummers just fucking work on stage, the most physically demanding instrument barr none! From all I have heard and seen on both sides of the argument, to me it seems like Lombardo got fucked over by the money machine running Slayer.
Bottom line: who's drum style and drum fills do you remember in Slayer...Lombardo! His playing was and is as critical to their sound as Hanneman's riffs and Tom's voice. Kerry to me was always the was the one I thought if they lost a member he could be the easiest to replace musically.
That being said...Slayer post Hanneman, the new stuff like Repentless, it sounds like Bostaph has much more of an identity and the vibe Gary Holt brings to the band is exciting and I think for the first time in a long time the band really seems fresh and revitalized. New album I think is gonna be pretty damn good but I am also looking ahead to see and hear what Gary ends up doing writing wise in the band!!
+Willard Sargento I doubt very much that many bands share the money equally. Dave was just an employee under contract to the band, because he quit twice and gave up his rights as an equal band member. He was hired back as an employee to the band. Also it's a fact that the song writers in a band get paid more. If you don't contribute to the song writing process than you don't get an equal share in the royalties. Greg Christian of Testament had the same beef. He was complaining of only get paid $350 a show and his pay hadn't gone up in 8 years even though the band was becoming more successful. So he left, and now he hates Chuck. Like it or not, a band is a business. It's how these guys make a living and it's their careers. If you don't treat your band like a business than you'll never last.

I know it´s my problem, but I just can not listen to Slayer if Dave´s not behind the kit. They´re both probably decent drummers, but Jon didn´t quite and Paul sure doesn´t have what i takes to make it sound like any kind of SLAYER!
