    I REALLY appreciate Jason's explanation of safety and the crumple zone, particularly as an autistic physicist (who has made a down payment on this truck!), and a safety engineer who was the architect for the LCLS radiation safety system. Yes, I'm basically Sheldon Cooper.
    Concerning the interior, I have one request: PLEASE don't make everything on a touch panel! There's a reason why they don't do this on planes, and it's instant tactile accessibility. Deep options on the touch panel are awesome, but I want to be able to change cabin temperature, fan speed, and the radio station with a single touch, not navigating a menu. Also, consider user-assignable knobs/buttons, so various users might have access to controls that are important to them.
    Cheers, I'm looking forward to my truck!!! (and I'm going to put a shell on it, even if I have to customize my own - glad to see the aerodynamic analysis, you're great for being so transparent!).

    The messaging on the crash safety might benefit from some tweaking. To me it ended up feeling like, “here’s how we do the minimum to comply with the safety rules” vs “this is why our vehicle will keep you safe.”

    • @hedleypepper1838
      @hedleypepper1838 Місяць тому +8

    • @ccibinel
      @ccibinel Місяць тому +5

      Agreed. Tucking the crumple into the truck without entering the cabin was definitely unclear. Perhaps they have channels meant to absorb the material but it was not well defined. Also important to realize that meeting the minimum legal requirement for safety isnt a great sales pitch; probably good to have Drew understand the content privately and decide on the message and understand potential reactions a bit more in advance.

    I really like the fact that they've gotten rid of the massive hood/bonnet you see on most EVs these days - this is the kind of "reimagining of the car" I was expecting to see in the EV market. The driving position also means you don't need a front window to see through (aka Canoo) but your knees don't become the crumple zone (old VW Kombi). The design looks like it wouldn't take much to turn it into a 7-seater van with 3 rows of seats (2+2+3). Conversely, with that open front wheel arch, fitting it with offroad tyres might also be interesting.
    Looking forward to see their progress from afar here in Australia.

    In a perfect world, I would like to know every detail about this before it shows up in my driveway and I put it in service.
    The crumple zone performance explanation showcased Jason’s skills and that was great. I thought it was hilarious when Drew reacted to the term “jerk”. Also good that Jason didn’t go into “jerk is the 3rd derivative of displacement” which absolutely wouldn’t help sell vehicles.
    Would be cool to have the other members of the team introduced and let them explain their contributions.
    The 3C battery king’s overview would be great.
    On the packaging front, interested to see what the flavor will be on the seats, dash, etc.. For those of us who are thrilled with simplicity and utility, we might be thinking in a way that doesn’t thrill an average consumer. The direction the team chooses will be interesting.
    On my end, really interested in the chassis and construction. Like to what extent the heavy gauge formed brackets are a mule thing to get parts in place/test vs. carried forward as the real deal to avoid stamping tooling etc..
    Really looking forward to this!

      Ya I really think they need to emphasize that better. Its a 5.5/8 ft box which is amazing on any truck but on this size is just awesome. They shouldnt say its a 5.5 ft box without always being clear it is kinda both sizes. A choice between seating and a full size box is very functional. With its awesome approach and departure angles the telo (especially if raised) could also be an offroad beast (marketing as pure urban is kinda silly).

    One small comment for the design team. Down the road accessories will be a thing.
    If you do your own BedSlide in aluminum for the cap version, you could make it removable vs. the bolt-ins most people get now. It would be a useful step up for some.
    When you get to the cap details, I will be interested in how you’re doing the attachment. On my Sahara Unlimited, I can pull of the rear, it being a common Jeep thing to “go Safari” and what not. But then when you “go commercial” like my STX, you tend to just leave a cap (I have an ARE) on there.
    If you have a removable bedslide and cap provision, it would get you extra points on the utility side…

    The balancing act will be cost to capability. An initial model with 350 miles and those capabilities would be great but less range and power would still get the job done. Modern trucks (gas and EV) are just insanely expensive. Interested to know what their drag and weight expectations are because 350 miles with such a physically small pack is definitely impressive. With such a push for space efficiency / size I cant see Drew's much loved LFP in a Telo unless people can deal with 200 miles of range or even less.

    Now that Drew is on the case, I'm into Telo. Seems like a great truck option, and what a lot of people want - a small truck! If they keep it simple, hopefully can get the price around 40k? Affordability is king. Repairability and replacement costs are also mega important. Keep it open-source and easy for 3rd party shops to repair, have good customer service, these would go a long way with public sentiment.

    3:26 It does push back underneath but the transmission is also part of crumple zone. The whole transmission bell will get crushed. Minivans are good example of vehicles that have shorter noses yet they have good crumple zone. Most of them have transversely mounted engines meaning that there's space in front and behind the engine. Plus the exhaust and intake manifolds will crush making even more space in my opinion.

My new F150 Supercrew STX 4x4 was $54K sticker, bought right & then we added ARE highest end cap + BedSlide & wound up @ $49K total. The F is a 2.7L EcoBoost and comfortably goes 85-90 mph to job sites; the girls love it. BUT, it’s a touch under 20’ long with a 5.5’ box. The nose does nothing for you except f up metro parking.

    I'm curious about the exposed front wheels. I know the door openings (pass through vents) help but you can clearly see lots of "dirty" turbulence at 7:59. There's not much you can change with rearview mirrors, the back of the cab, and the tailgate but the front wheels should be easy to fix - wheel pants, maybe?
    Also, I'm about 98% sold on the looks of the vehicle but (like Rivian) I'm not a fan of the headlights (I like them much more than the Rivian lights) and bigger, flush-mounted, headlights could/would be a nice upgrade.

    You had me at “Telo there” ❤! Great jokes aside, I just heard about Telos after your “announcement” on your Tailosive channel. I usually watch your Aptera coverage. I am now very interested in Telo Trucks after discovering how cool and incredibly effective these are at addressing micro mobility/safety concerns (a la Kei trucks). How can I invest? I want in. We must ensure these world-changing vehicle solutions make it to market and thrive.

    That is a nice small truck with a future if it can do real truck things and be affordable for the average person.
    I hope that it will have a tow capacity of at least 5000 pounds.

      @@TELOtrucks WOW, that would be awesome! That is about what a Nissan Frontier can tow. I was planning on purchasing a new Frontier at the end of the year but definitely prefer a BEV. I'm also working on a solar system that would be able to power my home and have the capacity to change an electric vehicle. If you can produce a reliable vehicle and have a price point that is competitive with a Nissan Frontier then I believe you will be very successful. When do you believe the vehicle will actually be produced?

      One more thing, if possible please construct the vehicle so that anyone with moderate mechanical/electrical skill can service/repair their own vehicle. Today's vehicles are full of proprietary information, tools, procedures and ECT that even factory trained technicians fail to properly diagnose, repair and service the vehicles.

    Small question: When you get a receipt for a reservation, are the 1st digits where you are in the queue?

    Great to see this company moving forward; just wish it was faster! This product is desperately needed in the US market. One thing I think they need to add to their marketing is that the small footprint is not just beneficial in dense cities, but also for maneuvering tight trails in the woods. This will make a great lifestyle vehicle for the “less is more” crowd. Think millennials living in tiny homes.

    Ad slide doors as they will be practical during parking, and self close and opening feature (as your own choice make as a standard or for extra charge)

    Would be a nice future if electric cars didn't look at top speed. Or 0-60 times. Thats just a cheap sales pitch. But more of a compact hybrid. Knowing the tech works. And smaller engines can be greener for the planet. Its just the green fuel you put in. Then its longer range. Being its a smaller vehicle. Crumple front zone being a honeycomb design, behind a dense foam outer shell. Impact then at a minimum and without distortion of panel's at a limited speed. Say 60mph. Rear conversation for a mini camper bed box. To slide in. Or the option to buy extra beds of different types. Just push in and lock into place.
    For a multi-use utility vehicle.

    I think you might be on the wrong side of the water, a vehicle like this would be an instant success in Europe as we actually love compact cars due to all our old cities and small towns.
