Saw them three times and paid twice for “cheap seats” but the third was the best by far. The company I was working for in 2005 had a marketing relationship with Ford Amphitheater in Tampa. The advertising manager popped into my office one day and said, “Hey, I’ve got four tickets to the Rush concert this week and I’m not a huge fan. You want them?” After I got up off the floor, I said YES!!! They were 12th row center. That’s a night I’ll never forget.
This is actually seven songs here, one from each of their first seven studio albums. Finding My Way from their first album titled Rush, Anthem from Fly By Night, Bastille Day from Caress of Steel, A Passage to Bangkok from 2112, Cygnus X-1 from A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres from Hemispheres, and The Spirit of Radio from Permanent Waves. This is how they started off their R 30 concert. Doesn't get much better than this!!
"Such a big sound from 3 people in the band, wow".. That young lady is a little thing some of us people that got to see them live call TALENT. Todays "artists" don't have this kind of staying power or the kind of back catalogue of songs spanning almost 45 yrs. There will never be 3 more talented players in our life times that could make such great music, for this long a time and still be loved by as many fans from the beginning to the end Sadly, both drummers in this band died before their time. John Rutsey (May 2008) and Neil Peart (Jan 2020). #RIPJohn #RIPNeil We as fans loved you both. ***EDIT*** Just so some of you younger kids know, these guys into their late 50's and early 60's before the band "ended" (in 2015) and got off the road, where still playing almost 3 HRS each live show. That is how much music these 3 guys made together over almost 42 yrs on the road starting way back in 1974. Neil joined in July of '74 when John left the band in March of 1974. These guys released 19 studio albums in total. There was a nearly 5.5 yrs point where the band did not tour or record as Neil's daughter Selena died (traffic accident Aug 1997) and 10 months later his wife Jacqueline Taylor passed away (cancer June 1998), and he travelled North and South America to clear his mind and get right with himself as he told the guys he " was retired". Alex and Geddy were unsure if the band would continue, and let Neil take his time to do what he needed to do. "When I heard that he was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart...." Nobody's Hero
The crazy part: If you saw those 3 guys walking down the street together, they look like 3 guys that work in an auto repair shop. You would never guess they are all GODS of the instruments they play. If you haven't seen the Rush documentary "Beyond The Lighted Stage" you should. It's great. So amazing that Geddy and Alex have been friends since elementary school and they were actually in the same homeroom together in Jr high school. Life long friends.
I went through your Rush catalog and you haven't done the ultimate instrumental: La Villa Stangiato. You should do either the original - official from 1978 or Live Cleveland 2011. Either way - watch both so you can see how perfect they perform it over a 33yr span.
Neil Peart was the favourite drummer for many well known drummers. He was consistently ranked in the top drummers. This is one of my favourite bands, along with Disturbed, Slipknot, Black Sabbath, Nightwish, AC/DC... can't go wrong with any one of them.
God I just LOVE how into this you are. You are an angel of music to me. Getting me thru this pandemic watching you watch all of these bands and loving ALL of them for their musical talents; picking out each instrument so well. You are a true gift to life for me! THANK YOU! Also, I truly believe you need to do a Kings X (Over My Head) reaction vid. You will dig them HARD, I promise!
I saw Rush four times. My brother took me to this small rock bar in Toronto called The Gasworks. This was before Neil Peart was the drummer. They were just kids. Right from the start they were fire. If you love instrumentals this is right up your alley. They were backup band to ZZ Top. Needless to say, that was memorable experience.
I read where Neil towards the end told his buddy, on the way back from a visit to the DW cave, "I have been listening to some of our songs on these trips and you know we were really, really good"
Yes, no false advertising there, that is the best intro ever. You are not alone girl, we all get excited watching and listening to Neil on the drums. RIP Professor!!!!
Jesus Christ I got too see these guys 3 times during my youth, not realizing that I was watching perhaps the greatest three piece band in the history of rock So glad I'm the age i am This brings me too tears knowing I'll never see them again
Love your reactions! Thank you for making the playlist. Plenty of more Rush to check out. I recommend Marathon, studio or live version. I think it’s a song you would appreciate.
Simply got to do La Villa Strangiato in Rio. You can tell they were all best friends and it breaks my heart I'll never see that again. Super creative and powerful performance.
neil was a genius, not the kind of genius people usually SAY is a genius which is usually just a guy whos very good at what he does he was a FOR REAL genius he did everything he did with incredible originality and brilliance he was just one of those very very few guys its as simple as that
My best friends favorite group! You think these guys with 3 crank it. Check out " Hymn for Her" on the album (Pop n' Downers) whole album is sublime. But the songs Dingle Town and First Clown On The Moon like wow.It is just the two of them. ( If you can get through the song " Yard Sale" with dry eyes your made of stone.) 👍✌❤😊
Love this! It's the intro to R30 in 2004. It's a medley of the instrumental parts from one song from each of their first 6 albums, followed by the lead song from their 7th (Spirit of Radio). The songs are: Album - Song Rush - Finding My Way Fly By Night - Anthem Caress of Steel - Bastille Day 2112 - A Passage to Bangkok A Farewell to Kings - Cygnus X-1 Book 1 The Voyage Hemispheres - Cygnus X-1 Book 2 Hemispheres Permanent Waves - The Spirit of Radio Glad you enjoy it!
There are two, 2 piece bands with big sound that come to mind; The White Stripes (Singer/Guitarist and Drummer) and Royal Blood (Singer/Bassist and drummer) You should definitely check both of them out.
you want to know a good one to see live? "Mission" from their "Show of Hands" tour in '88. The solo at the end of that song, amazing. Will give you chills. Another great one is "Natural Science" from "Live in Rio" 2002.
one performance not to be missed even if you heard the recoding version is (Working Man Live Cleveland ). Cleveland was a very important city at the beginning of their journey, A Radio DJ in Cleveland was the first to play Rush on the Radio and brought them more into the spotlight
Please do The Weapon, Live from the Grace Under Pressure Tour 1984. Spacy synths, eery guitars and some of Neil's best drum fills. But there is one thing: You gotta watch that one with 3D glasses on. Cause otherwise you will only see it in 1,5 D.
I think Bastille Day has one of Alex's greatest ever riffs - 1 of the best in Rock even - & was a great choice as a concert opener back in the day as heard on All The World's a Stage. Love ya Scribey xx
Clever. The song starts at 9:05, but it sounds like it starts at 9:20. They were adapting subliminal messaging techniques just for the fun of it, from what I just heard. Did I hear it? A number chord changes taken from the middle of the song, and played just before the start of it? Maybe I'm imagining things. They ended the intro with an intro.
The one thing about rush they have gotten better with time..unlike some other big band that have gotten sloppy..not rush they give you there all every concert..rock on
The seats are way better when you are an adult as opposed to baby sitter money seats. 🙄 Did not miss sitting in the nosebleed section of MSG at all! Each intro song was a flashback to a show I saw. Love this intro & 😍 your reaction. 😊🐰 #ENRGYZRBunny
Roll the bones tour....Eric johnson I think his name was, was the opening act....my mom and dad showed up and seen me drinking and smoking weed for the first time in my life ...so embarrassed
RIP Neil Peart. He was your favorite drummer's favorite drummer.
How self-centered of him. Can’t believe he’s his own favorite drummer
RUSH. 5th row. 1978 Mid South Colosseum. Memphis, TN. 6 dollars 50 cents. Still have ticket stub. My mind is still blown.
I never had the pleasure of Rush, live, but can only imagine.
I saw them around the same time in Little Rock Arkansas
Midsouth Coliseum 85 I think, Grace Under Pressure tour.
RUSH Row 1, center, R30 Tour, Sleep Train Amphitheater, Sacramento, Ca! Cost? A lot but who cares. It was freakin' awesome!
The one you have yet to do is their prog MASTERPIECE - La Villa Strangiato
This is actually seven songs here, one from each of their first seven studio albums. Finding My Way from their first album titled Rush, Anthem from Fly By Night, Bastille Day from Caress of Steel, A Passage to Bangkok from 2112, Cygnus X-1 from A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres from Hemispheres, and The Spirit of Radio from Permanent Waves. Great info Matty!
I'm sad that there will be no more, but they did leave us so much!
Nicely done. Might also mention this meddly is called the "R30 Overture".
It has been a long time since RUSH Army has commanded me to attend such an event. RUSH Army is present and prepared for duty!
One of their best montage's of some of their older & fan favorite songs. Thanks for the good memories. keep it up. your are doing a great job.

How great were they? Seriously, HOW GREAT WERE THEY!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Umm, they were the best!!
"I was like uh muh gaud!" lol
BEST EVER!!!🔥🔥🔥
Rush is best experienced live. They made their mark, and gained the best fans ever, by being a working band.
The crazy part: If you saw those 3 guys walking down the street together, they look like 3 guys that work in an auto repair shop. You would never guess they are all GODS of the instruments they play. Live Cleveland 2011 Working man a great jam
Always a treat to watch you enjoy Rush. I wish you continued success on your journey
La Villa Strangiato (Official Music Video) has 3.9 Million views

@@jimsantilli5602 The MIGHTY KINGS X, indeed! I get happy just typing their name 🤘🥰🤣 so fab I’m not alone in this love fest

Great reaction. Love your Rush reactions. Thanks for this one.
Excellente! And yes, to think that this is only THREE people is beyond imagination for most people... Rush is just TOO good and TOO tight.
Powerfull sound
A great mix of old classics..wow
You have done Working Man, the studio version, but, check it out done live in Cleveland.
Like seeing a swiss watch work. If you know nothing about watches, it's beautiful. If you know about watches, it's magical.
"You're gonna hurt your wrist doing THAT!" Said my Mom who caught me air-drumming to Rush.
I read where Neil towards the end told his buddy, on the way back from a visit to the DW cave, "I have been listening to some of our songs on these trips and you know we were really, really good"
The quote is “...we were pretty good”. He was far too Canadian to be anymore self-congratulatory.
Yep I remember in 1979 high as a kite was blown away it was amazing show o remember you could fill Neil beat in your heart.😁🥁🎸
Roxy Music - "If there is something" / Jane's Addiction - "Just Because"
About time you did more Rush!! I miss watching you react to Rush.
Yes, no false advertising there, that is the best intro ever. You are not alone girl, we all get excited watching and listening to Neil on the drums. RIP Professor!!!!
Half the world, driven, working them angels, caravan, ub2b marathon mission
The way you rock out to the music when reacting is cool & cute as hell
Jesus Christ
I got too see these guys 3 times during my youth, not realizing that I was watching perhaps the greatest three piece band in the history of rock
So glad I'm the age i am
This brings me too tears knowing I'll never see them again
All props to you Scribegirl !
Intro to side 1 of 2112 record is my fave followed by Spirit of Radio and Xanadu live
THE GREATEST BAND TO WALK THIS FUCKING EARTH.
Love your reactions! Thank you for making the playlist. Plenty of more Rush to check out. I recommend Marathon, studio or live version. I think it’s a song you would appreciate.

Rush - La Villa Strangiato (Live 2003)
This the filmed R30 concert intro/medley in Frankfurt 2004.
neil was a genius,

he was a FOR REAL genius
he did everything he did with incredible originality and brilliance
he was just one of those very very few guys

You are so beautiful and your smile is captivating
Great reaction. I think you may be ready for Rush - Roll the bones. I think you will be blown away, for those in the know don't give away the secret
love finding my way thanks
Seriously, damn. How is this possible? Yeah, OOHHH YEAH!
Love your interjections!
Check out the studio version of Leave That Thing Alone. Sweetest guitar solo you’ll ever hear!
My best friends favorite group!
You think these guys with 3 crank it.

2112 - A Passage to Bangkok
A Farewell to Kings - Cygnus X-1 Book 1 The Voyage
Hemispheres - Cygnus X-1 Book 2 Hemispheres
Permanent Waves - The Spirit of Radio
Glad you enjoy it!
I love to see your reaction to rush

Gotta check out A PASSAGE TO BANGKOK from EXIT STAGE LEFT. Epic guitar solo!
Gotta do FREEWILL live in Cleveland. You’ve done the studio version but the live is a different animal!
A little montage from their albums 1974-1980.
one performance not to be missed even if you heard the recoding version is (Working Man Live Cleveland ). Cleveland was a very important city at the beginning of their journey, A Radio DJ in Cleveland was the first to play Rush on the Radio and brought them more into the spotlight

DAMN I MISS LIVE SHOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite Rush song ever is New World Man.
I need to order a live compilation cd.
Nobody does the very first
Of the into with Jerry Stiller
Its cool too 😎
Jacobs Ladder....newer songs like Far Cry.....One Little Victory
Clever. The song starts at 9:05, but it sounds like it starts at 9:20. They were adapting subliminal messaging techniques just for the fun of it, from what I just heard. Did I hear it? The one thing about rush they have gotten better with time..unlike some other big band that have gotten sloppy..not rush they give you there all every concert..rock on
what about rush-- La Villa Strangiato
It's the washing machines. That's where the big sound comes from.
"They're just Jammin!"
Next song Bastille Day. Oh the irony.
Yep, Working Man 2011 from Cleveland. Best live performance ever! (see what I did there fellow Rush fans!)
Hey scribecash, I love you,you are the best , can you please do an old one for me,the Beatles at Shea stadium . Thank you.
ScribeC, check out Rush's "The Main Monkey Business" sometime. It will blow your mind. Rush instrumentals are the best!
The sadness I felt when I heard this collage in concert - "So these are the songs they are NOT going to play in their entirety tonight" ;)
🎸🥁🎸
you have to do the live version of Working Man
I like your sweatshirt, but.....RUSH has an iconic grey shirt with PINK letters......JS.
live in rio YYZ
Take a space ride to a black hole and check out Cygnus X-1 Book-1: The Voyage, with lyrics!
Yup, RUSH has such a large sound for only 3 people ... that's because all of their amps are turned all they way up to "11" ... LOL
Rush alpine Valley Wisconsin 1983
🙂😂😂😂❤️❤️💥
Do you see the dryers working in the background
Audio sync is out exactly one 4/4 bar.
Seen them in 91
Roll the bones tour....Eric johnson I think his name was, was the opening act....my mom and dad showed up and seen me drinking and smoking weed for the first time in my life ...so embarrassed
Its not a "jam" per se..Every real RUSH fan worth their salt knows all the names of the songs they are playing the first parts of here.
And the lyrics....
This was their R30 tour, so this was a medley of some of their favorite songs. Fantastic, this was my first Rush concert😍
React to Prince-Empty Room
