      The amount of knowledge, patience, will power and physical stamina it takes to work as a ramp agent at a big hub is tremendous. No one truly understand what it takes until they try it. Most don't last for more than a few months as they become overwhelmed too quickly. Understanding the various lock positions in the cargo holds of various aircraft, ground power connection points, water, air, operating the bridge, connecting tow bars, dealing with sequences, learning to operate the loader efficiently and figuring out what to do when crap goes wrong...list goes on and on. You always always have to be alert and aware of whats going on around you or you will most definitely get hurt or hurt someone else. Its not the type of work where you can lost in your thoughts like you can sitting behind a desk. I have yet to work any other job that requires one to learn as much and develop so many skill sets. Coming from an office job, the hardest day in the office is an easy day on the ramp. Ramp crew is also tasked with identifying any structural issues with the aircraft as well. The amount of responsibility is very high as peoples lives are at stake. When i listen to friends and family talk about pressure from their cushy desk job, I laugh. I tell them come watch a boeing 777 be loaded and them come talk to me about how hard it was to organize your day lol. The problem with desk jobs is that they are mentally agonizing. Leaving that environment was the best thing i did. I am on my feet and doing something i truly enjoy. I am a far happier person and will gladly take a pay cut than work an office job ever again. One things for sure, if you have a good crew, the work is rewarding.

    In our airport, marching and startups are 99% done by so-called coordinators, who are doing also loadmaster duties. The steps to be involved in marshaling and pushing are: ramp agent apprentice >> ramp agent >> loadmaster >> flight coordinator

      @Daniel Brockman sounded like a guy I knew from another airline company. he'd always be stuck in the bag room while the new guy go out on the tarmac. He eventually got a transfer to another city. I suggest you do the same.

      in our airport(RIX) agents are loaders, they can have loadmaster qualification, and then there are coordinators, who are coordinating the flight with matching and pushing included.

    Do you take turns with other team members, loading and unloading bags on the flights? How many flights have to be loaded in an 8 hr shift? How many flights have to be unloaded in a 8 hour shift? How many flights are you made to load and unload in a 8 hour shift, as opposed to other tasks like driving trucks around? If it's physically demanding for you, how do the small women (like the one from Puerto Rico) manage it? Are they given a pass by management where they don't have to load as much baggage as you?

  • @vinceblack4142
    @vinceblack4142 3 роки тому +3

    Man you load and offload baggage from the hold? I mean, here in Italy ramp agent can’t do that or move stairs and cones around the a/c, and marshaling neither , he’s just giving load sheet to cockpit crew and coordinating all the operations (fueling, baggage charge, engine start, boarding start and final count). You work really mutch more in LONDON!

      GlenAlan I’m assuming a ramp agent is the same as a ground operations agent.? How much do they pay ?

    • @glenalan1547
      @glenalan1547 4 роки тому +2

      Saint0rleans OfThe9th ground ops are airport financed and control the taxiways, maintenance of runways etc, the company I work for as a ramp agent is Swissport and pays €10.51 an hour until you get signed off on three things, eg driving, headsets and high loaders, then it goes up to €11.51 an hour. The more training you do the better the money and you can progress up to managerial roles
      I’m only a part time ramp agent but get paid the same per hour as my full time colleagues
