This is probably the best video for protecting your pipes if you are going to be below freezing for an extended time.
The plumber said he was going to turn off the main and drain all his pipes (and fill his bathtub) for a reason - it's the one way to be sure you won't have a busted pipe. Just make sure you know the right way to do it!
She says to "turn the valve perpendicular to the pipe" at the main...and then they turn it so it's parallel to the pipe.
Fill your tubs first and sinks and as many containers as possible!
This would have helped 6 hours ago!!!
That would have helped 3 days ago
This guy is EXACTLY RIGHT! 💯 👏
Yes it's always safe to shut off the water and drain the lines. That is what saved my water lines.
she knows how to keep your pipe warm
Wouldn't this be assuming that your faucets are lower than the pipes? Gravity pulls water down but pipes go up to the faucets.
Less water in the system means that when the small amount of water that may be left in the system has somewhere to go. It isn't that water freezes that burst the pipes it is that the water expands and when that expansion has nowhere to go in the system and then it will break out of said system.
@@estuardo2985Do you think I should cut the water off from the curb(city) or the one outside my house?
They should have told people this Thursday Evening. First you tell us not to drip our faucets, now you tell us the correct way too late. Bye Houston Officials!
What were the temperatures and wind km when this was going on?
What about water heater?
Dont let your water district know you are turning off your water at the meter. Thats a no no. It belongs to them and only a qualified water district employee should be the one to turn it off.
After you turn on your faucets (both hot and cold), leave them on. Then flush your toilets. Electric water heater, turn off breaker. Gas water heater, turn off gas valve that feeds water heater. Reason, thermal expansion will push water from tank into pipes. No water in pipes, nothing to freeze. Fyi-no likely but has happened, flush toilet to remove water. If water in toilet freezes it can break your toilet.
Oh horse hockey. You can turn your meter off any time you feel like it.
It’s it safe to turn off the water heater power after running the faucets empty? Or vise versa?
Shutting them off does not drain them. It just allows them to freeze and burst. Ill pass. Ran all of mine and no issues.
So much violence this weekend.. I can see it now
