Sounds good. Just remember to scale up your investments as you get better off and dont forget about EFTS, bonds etc. You should diversify your portfolio and make sure you spend some of your freetime improving your skills.
One thing that sucks is a “raise” isn’t really the amount you think it is. At $40k a year you might be taking home $32k after taxes (for example). At $60k, you might take home $45k after taxes. So a $20k bonus sounds like a lot, but you only see $13k of that money. And then after rent prices and student loans, you’re still broke. I live in NYC. Breathing air is expensive around here.

As hard as it may sound you can plan for the recession. If you are working, find extra work and get an Invest--advisor. Protect your deposits by having enough cash in short term fixed income. Then cut your expenses. Minimal insurance, cut utilities.
Its best if you buy growth/blue-chip/large caps stocks only. Also, if you are a newbie its advisable you work with an investment advisor to help set up a well-structured portfolio.

Can you do a video for people who didn't had financial education and now they hit 29/30 but they are able to work hard and do lots of research and change that? Thanks
The one thing you never address is what 90k by the time I'm 65 means when adjusted for inflation. If I have 40 years until retirement, assuming standard inflation, that 90k has the same buying power as around 30k today. Please add this into your calculations. For me ( a 26 year old) I need roughly 3.5 million invested to have the same lifestyle i do today at around 70k in income.
You wouldn't just leave 90k in a bank account with zero interest. It should be properly invested in something like index funds. But really, nobody knows what a job or an income will even be in 15-20 years due to automation so all of this is kind of a huge guess.
Again, this is specific to the US. In Portugal, for example, do NOT apply for credit cards UNLESS they’re from the bank you want to get a house loan from.
Thank you Graham for your great videos. I’ve learned so much from you, but you do sometimes downscale the costs of wanting a family and your can’t raise a family on a 40k salary in most places, so when you are earning more you have to spend more and not keep your costs the same. Thanks to your advice and help I’ve already started my portfolio and have a trading account in trust to me which I invested $4,000 earlier this year and it has already grown 16% since March. I hope I can grow my portfolio, but it’s pretty good so far for a 16 year old. My goal is trying to add 5k to my portfolio every year till I finish high school.
@Oscarunderwater Just want to let you know that you can definitely raise a family on cheaper than you think. There's concessions that have to be made and it's definitely not easy. There's tons and tons of ppl out there taking care of their families with the same or less than lots of people that are "just getting by" due to having extravagant lifestyles. People really don't understand how little you NEED to get by. That being said, planning for that type of situation is NEVER the goal, and it's obviously unadvised.
Definitely far from impossible man! I recommend The Money Guys if you’ve never watched them to get started. They’ve done great things for me. There are other great resources too, but they’ll give you much more than these shorter videos. These are good starters though.
I agree with everything in this video, but at the same time, you need to understand the future is not guaranteed. Save for the future don't forget to live a little when you're young. It's all about balance.
A book can hold a lifetime of lessons through someone’s experiences. I never picked up a book until I understood that concept. Second thing i learned from books was learn from your mistakes. Don’t fear mistakes.
solid advice. i started a roth ira at age 18 and i’m now 21. i haven’t been investing into it but i am going to start doing so now. i want to look into other things to invest in but i don’t know where to start or who to talk to. i want to work to live. not live to work. id rather work extremely hard for 10 years and live comfortably for 60 than the other way around.
It's really simple to become wealthy in your 20s if you do these simple steps: Reducing debt is important. Reduce spending. To help you accumulate wealth, adopt wholesome habits like regularly setting aside money for investments on a regular basis. Your income potential will skyrocket if you put effort into this. In the financial market, there are many of ways to profit. I was able to earn my first million dollars through passive investing in a range of assets with the help of my financial advisor Emily Lois Parker.
Impressive!! Also, I did read about Emily Lois Parker on the web, I was able to find her webpage and leave a mail. I'm willing to make consultations to improve my portfolio

This video does not account for risk and normalcy bias. Just because the stock market seemingly goes up does not mean the value of your money keeps pace and certainly it doesn't mean that it ALWAYS goes up either. We could be in for a very harsh correction in a very short period of time on par with the great depression or the 2008 financial crisis. In these uncertain times, it may be a better idea to invest in resources, assets, and yourself than in stocks or cash.
Execute. I was around your age when I started getting into it as well. Get a credit card ASAP (be responsible) ROTH IRA when you’re 18 Build streams of income, job / business or side hustle And just as important, stay in school
im 19 man, graduated high school in 2022. I was where you were a while ago. The comment above said it already, but more than just gaining the knowledge, you need to execute what you learn. Start a business now. Get a roth ira, get a discover or capital one secured. be responsible with your spending, once you hit 700 get an auto loan for a car, but dont try and get like a hellcat or bmw, get a nice nissan or something about 20k, and just gain more experience and execute everything you learn in life. most importantly, dont surround yourself around too many people, or at least people who aren't like-minded like You and I. Being young, you might get impulsive, and accidentally spend money going out with friends too much. Stay 10 toes down, wait until your 21 to start having fun. I just recently bought a camaro 2ss 2022 because i stayed 10 toes down, and im still just doing my own thing relaxing, never been to a bar, never been to party, i only really go out to the gym, to play ball, or take a nice drive or go out to eat every once in a while with the boys. You're wise beyond your years my friend. I bequeath upon you my blessings🙏🏽💯

Getting a high paying job and living at home is probably the only realistic way to get rich in your 20s at this point in time. All of his tips are helpful but a good credit score and good job doesn't mean you are going to be rich. It's entirely possible the dream job you wan't doesn't pay anything close to what you would realistically want.
How to get rich in your 20's... yeah, here's a primer... be lucky enough to have a rich family member with connections in the finance industry to set you up for life... or work like crazy, never enjoy anything, invest into the stock market and randomly become successful!... or be born naturally tech and math savy and become your own entrepreneur! or take the andrew tate route and set up a cam girl pimping agency 😂😂, because the reality is it's not what you know, it's who you know, and you all know it's true, whether it's in real estate or anything.
8:00 I'd like to mention that billionaires don't sell shares but instead, leverage debt. Leveraging debt is a simple process. They go to a bank and ask for a loan, they use their shares as collateral. And because money from loans isnt taxable, they essentially "convert" their shares to money. And as long as their stock grows faster than the interest rate on their loan. They're making money. eventually, the money they get from the loan can be invested or spent on personal assets. In addition, if their stock grows in value, they can take out more loans using the same stock. They can go to another bank, take out a loan for more money than their previous loan, and pay back their previous loan.they can repeat this as long as their stock grows. And in the worst case scenario, they can just sell some of their stock to pay the loan back. Leverage increases risk, but it also increases reward.
It's a really good point @@justmusic2353 I did a video on this because everyone was so quick to move on with little to no consequences and a short apology video that ... was perhaps insufficient :P

What do u do for a living?
Last month was pretty bad. Found out my sister wasn't able to get on the donor list, we're working on it though. Other than that I finally got a hold of my debt, inflation is just crazy lol. Thanks for asking.
Hope you had a good month.
Oh no...so sorry to to hear, what's that process like? How long has the wait been? Really hoping it works out!
What’s crazy is that 85% of the things he talked about I started realizing and doing on my own last year and have the exact same plans, I’m in that position where I’m always working and paying off what I owe but also growing up in my career
Sales bought me my first house, paid off a all my debt, filled my emergency fund and provided capital for whatever small business I felt like starting.
There’s just not a lot of people who are self disciplined and socially talented enough to make it in this business. It’s stressful, it’s difficult and it’s painful, but it’s worth it.

Sounds good. Just remember to scale up your investments as you get better off and dont forget about EFTS, bonds etc. You should diversify your portfolio and make sure you spend some of your freetime improving your skills.
"improving your skills" can you elaborate on that?@@rea280

One thing that sucks is a “raise” isn’t really the amount you think it is. At $40k a year you might be taking home $32k after taxes (for example). At $60k, you might take home $45k after taxes. So a $20k bonus sounds like a lot, but you only see $13k of that money. And then after rent prices and student loans, you’re still broke.

I really appreciate your advice. I'm a 62-year-old worth several million dollars because of implementing many of these tactics in my late 20's and 30's. I wish I had done it as a 20-year-old instead of buying that car!! Drive the beater until you can buy a car with cash- although probably NOT the car sitting behind Graham!
Man I wish I could have a conversation with you.. The wisdom would be life changing.
Oh man, Im just starting my life as 20 year old boy. And seeing you had millions of dollars is crazy for me, thats a lot
GT40 behind him, my dream car. I’m 23 right now and really want a new mustang, making 60k a year. Think i’m gonna start putting 500 a month into an IRA and look into index funds instead. Any other advice you have for my age?
It's very simple. Work 14 hours a day for next 10 years on a scalable business and you will be rich.
I don’t know how but you’ve managed to package an unbiased analysis that is more entertaining than the sensationalized segment of economic and financial news. Thank you for your efforts to be the signal and not the noise. I understand that the economy is currently in a downturn and that we must wait for things to get better
If you don't mind, how can I reach this advisrr? My retirement portfolio isnt doing greatly.
I find this informative, curiously explored Vivian on the web, spotted her consulting page, and was able to schedule a call session with her, she shows quite a great deal of expertise from her resume.. very much appreciated
I really appreciate that this is very generalized and not another "just start drop shipping" video. Great advice in general.
The one problem with dividends as income is that your 20's are a growth phase, so to keep the investment growing as much as possible the dividends should be re-invested right back into it, not spent on anything else.
It shouldn't be your main investment in your 20's, more like a small side investment.
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve hit that like button…..
You’d be rich in your 20s!
But you get a cute animal picture as a thank you!

the way to avoid lifestyle inflation is:if you earn small amount of money you should spend any amount you want to be happy and pleased and not to try to save money because then when you start earning a bigger amount of money you will increase your expenses and be on the same page
This is the best Graham video I’ve seen in a hot minute.
I’d love to see a tutorial on investing please!!!
What an awesome video. This was like a summary of all the financial info in one short video!
Most people that have failed themselfs. Tend to put others down who have have passion to do better. Don't listen to them ever!
@sabrinaresurrected yes thats true
That being said, planning for that type of situation is NEVER the goal, and it's obviously unadvised.
so lucky im young. I realized this a few weeks ago and have been planning like mad to get prepped for as much investing/saving as possible.

High quality content as always, cheers!

Execute. I was around your age when I started getting into it as well.
Get a credit card ASAP (be responsible)
ROTH IRA when you’re 18
Build streams of income, job / business or side hustle
And just as important, stay in school
im 19 man, graduated high school in 2022.

Depends on where you live, but yeah, that's true for HCOL areas.
How do you invest when you work 80hrs a week have no debt and can still only afford food and gas?
How to get rich in your 20's... yeah, here's a primer... be lucky enough to have a rich family member with connections in the finance industry to set you up for life... or work like crazy, never enjoy anything, invest into the stock market and randomly become successful!... or be born naturally tech and math savy and become your own entrepreneur! or take the andrew tate route and set up a cam girl pimping agency 😂😂, because the reality is it's not what you know, it's who you know, and you all know it's true, whether it's in real estate or anything.
The only good comment I’ve read here lmao
