They were using higher level gear, elder overloads, soul split, and the darkness incantation to make them miss 20% of attacks. He was capping hard saying it was easy, easy for killing things quest wise is only needing weapons and nothing else lmao

Although it's much too late to give you advice,
For anyone in the future, the waves are NOT easy, the enemies will tear you to shreds if you let more than 3 pile on you, they hit hard enough and fast enough they can take you down 4K hp every time they all make an attack.
The key to beating this quest without going fully decked out PVM mode is simply:
First, wear your best melee gear, and if you have it, something like a Saradomin God Sword (Passive if you have it)
Fill the rest of your inventory with your best food, and bring some prayer potions.
(Preferable) have Ancient Curses and high enough prayer for Soul Split and Turmoil (95 prayer), but failing that, Deflect or protect from (Magic/Ranged, assuming you stay out of melee range) will carry you.
When a wave starts, IMMEDIATELY run to any corner, and right click the enemies and select "Mark", this will make all your allies focus fire and destroy it, use it to target the magic users, when you mark them your allies will use their special skills and that helps a ton. Each time you get an "Upgrade" deliberate on what sounds best, generally, the 50% more healing from food is really good, The Raptor taking part of the damage you take is a life saver, The Raptor's provoke is good, Aster's 10K damage on anything with less than 25% helps clean up, etc, use your judgement with what you're given.
ALWAYS run away, your allies have so much HP they effectively can't die, I never saw them go below 25% , but if they do, they come back the next wave so it's no loss. Make your allies do almost all the work, clean up the ranged enemies while staying on the outside ring of the arena. If the mages spawn near you, make sure to mark them and get them dealt with right away.
Use surge, dive, anything to get out of the way, you're a duke/duchess, make your subjects do the dirty work.
Finally, there's a level of RNG here with the upgrades you're offered, and the off chance you get aggro'd, if you're in the wrong spot, the first tick they can attack can cause you to take upwards of 6K to 10K damage, and that's absurd. If you're not confident in running away, flick on protect from melee as you start a round so if you get caught, it deflects half of it.
It might still take a few tries but, good luck, the overload station is worth it.
