I've heard from multiple sources that the Genesis Mini has a double input issue. Basically, every so often after you press and release a direction on the D-pad, the system will act as if you pressed that direction again. It seems most easily observable in the menus, but apparently happens during gameplay as well. Rerez said it made playing puzzle games nearly impossible to play on harder difficulty levels, and trying out a different controller didn't solve the issue. So, I'm curious if you guys encountered anything similar. I'm hoping it's just a random factory defect, but considering that more than one reviewer has encountered the problem, it could be a flaw in the hardware's design, which would be quite unfortunate, considering that Sega seems to have finally gotten the emulation right for the most part.
Are you talking about the Atgames one released back in April? The design of that model and this mini are completely different. If it has Atgames on it, it's not this one. If it doesn't have Megaman, Road Rash, Strider, Street Fighter, Ghouls and Ghosts, Castlevania, or Contra, it's not this one.
@@shockz1715 No. I'm talking about this new one. Like I said, Rerez described the problem in detail in a review posted about two days ago, but he seems to have deleted it. Strange fellow. This is not the only article I've seen that had a similar complaint, but most kind of gloss over it. I have to say though, I think it's strange that these people still recommends the system, despite what seems like a pretty big issue. From the quote, it sounds like he's saying that basically every tap of the D-pad registers two presses, unless you only touch it for a split second. From that description, it sounds like what's actually happening is that the system seems to think you stopped pressing a direction for a moment right after you first pressed it, but then it realizes you're still holding the direction and registers the second press. That sounds, at best, very annoying. But this thing will be out in the wild soon, so I'm sure we'll hear more about it if the issue hasn't been fixed before the system gets to stores.

The Genesis did not have the same amount of ground breaking titles as the Snes...hold your tongue. The Genesis has games on par and many times better than Nintendo's censorship box with goofy purple sliding switches. Sonic, Shinobi, Road Rash, Strider, Ecco, Desert Strike (better version), Thunder Force series were all genre defining titles. Virtua Racing (should have been on here) showed the gaming world that Sega truly knew how to get a fully realized 3d polygonal game running on 16-bit hardware at more than 10 frames a second. If Sega had kept the Genesis on the market for the same amount of time the Snes was on sale....Sega would have won the 16-bit war. They were ahead when they discontinued the Sega Genesis. Nintendo won a battle they fought alone....telling me about genre defining titles while asking for Ristar, yuck. That game was so well loved it did not warrant a sequel. I bet you want Sega to stuff a bunch of licensed Disney titles on here as well. Give me Lion King...not interested. The games that would make this package better are- Golden Axe 2 Desert Strike Virtua Racing Zero Tolerance Shadow Dancer Virtua Fighter SVP unreleased Streets of Rage Super Hang On Outrun Afterburner 2 Pulse Man Phantasy Star 2 Phantasy Star 3 Shadowrun Herzog Zwei Dune: Battle for Arrakis TMNT: Hyperstone Hiest Rocket Knight Adventures Sunset Riders Zombies Ate My Neighbors Splatter House 2 Splatter House 3 Shining Force 2 Shining in the Darkness Aladdin (I will concede this) I could go on for quite a while; However, I will stop here. Thankfully, the Genesis Mini has a great catalog of games and why I am picking up two this Thursday. I actually wish they would have included a few must own Sega CD games. Popful Mail, Lunar Eternal Blue, Lunar Silver Star, Eternal Champions, Mortal Kombat, Robo Aleste, Dark Wizard, Road Avenger, Vay, The Terminator, Soul Star, Soul Feace, Cobra Command, AH3 Thunderstrike, Android Assault, and Lords of Thunder. I would buy a Sega CD add-on or stand alone if it included even half of these titles.
@@JCO78 First and foremost, I had/have both of these consoles and I received them the year they launched. I have played every single Squaresoft game ever produced and released here in the States. Further, we have both a room dedicated to retro gaming and a full sized arcade in our living room complete with stand up coin-op machines. So what I'm about to say too you is from real world experience and not because some UA-camr told me what to think... You mentioned the Squaresoft games, while they have expansive well written stories they typically did not push the hardware at all. Yes, they are competent and the intro to Final Fantasy 3 is nice; However, most Squaresoft titles are methodical in nature playing quite a bit slower than most Genesis games. Time based attacks do not make a game impressive graphically. When you look at a game like Thunder Force IV for the Genesis you will see what I mean. That game typically has 6-7 scrolling backgrounds at once, hundreds of enemies on screen, shots, and massive foreground ships shooting at you at all times. This is also coupled with some of the best sound you will ever hear in a 16-bit game. I'm talking a full on hardware pusher not 8 sprites attacking each other in a time based matter. Hell, the third Thunder Force game was so loved it was actually ported to the arcade and Snes. The Snes could not handle the game and slows to a literal crawl repeatedly. The Genesis version as always was buttery smooth and outdone by the fourth entry which was a Genesis exclusive. I can say as a huge SNK fan for life, that Thunder Force IV would not look out of place on a Neo Geo AES/MVS/CDZ (own these as well). Ask yourself this...why was every single Neo Geo port better on the Genesis? Could it be that they share similar hardware setups? Speaking of fighting games, why does Street Fighter run faster and smoother on the Genesis? How can an indy dev fix the sound codec for Street Fighter 2 on the Genesis making it faster, better looking, and with arcade perfect sound? Could it be that you never really experienced any of this and likely started with some type of PlayStation? So many questions... In summation, the Snes might look better on paper as it has many specialized chips that the Genesis does not. The Genesis not only has a much faster and more complex 16-bit CPU it has a co-processor as well giving it the ability to do every single effect the Snes can do through sheer brute force (the Motorola 68K can run in both 16-bit and 32-bit). This is why fans have been able to port games like Wolfenstein to the Genesis without any specialized chips and have it walk circles around the broken pixilated mess that is the FX powerd Snes version. Not satisfied, look up the SVP powered Virtua Racing. It beats every single Snes game in the graphics department so soundly it's not up for debate. Thanks for playing. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DrNHxmrJPqWE&ved=2ahUKEwiu2aao_tXlAhVshq0KHYi-BRsQwqsBMAV6BAgIEAc&usg=AOvVaw1nmMSd_HCXbxkPMvFxVgsJ Watch this and then tell me it could be done on an Snes with a single 3.58 mhz processor, I dare you. Go to 9:53 if you want to see him change levels...man is he bad at this game. Further, this is the PAL version that runs slower than the NTSC version. It's much faster here in the States.
@@Sinn0100 Who even cares about superior performance over having a larger library of perfectly playable classic games? Alison Patten yeah I was really shocked when both Castle and World of Illusion were going to be on the mini, but it makes sense since Sega did produce them both. Can it play Genesis cartridges, and more importantly can it play them well (unlike the AtGames crap)? If so, I might consider picking one up. If not, I'll prob skip it. Also, any idea how easy or difficult it is to mod? One other thing, you didn't mention compatibility with other controllers. I know it comes with 2 but it would be nice to be able to use ones people already own as well.

Nintendo won a battle they fought alone....telling me about genre defining titles while asking for Ristar, yuck. That game was so well loved it did not warrant a sequel. I bet you want Sega to stuff a bunch of licensed Disney titles on here as well. Give me Lion King...not interested.
The games that would make this package better are-
Golden Axe 2
Desert Strike
Virtua Racing
Zero Tolerance
Shadow Dancer
Virtua Fighter SVP unreleased
Streets of Rage
Super Hang On
Outrun
Afterburner 2
Pulse Man
Phantasy Star 2
Phantasy Star 3
Shadowrun
Herzog Zwei
Dune: Battle for Arrakis
TMNT: Hyperstone Hiest
Rocket Knight Adventures
Sunset Riders
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Splatter House 2
Splatter House 3
Shining Force 2
Shining in the Darkness
Aladdin (I will concede this)
I could go on for quite a while; However, I will stop here.
Love splatterhouse
Crappy list.I prefer the ones in the mini
The Squaresoft games alone trash anything on the Genesis. Don't fool yourself kid
@@JCO78
First and foremost, I had/have both of these consoles and I received them the year they launched.

Watch this and then tell me it could be done on an Snes with a single 3.58 mhz processor, I dare you. Go to 9:53 if you want to see him change levels...man is he bad at this game. Further, this is the PAL version that runs slower than the NTSC version. It's much faster here in the States.
@@Sinn0100 Who even cares about superior performance over having a larger library of perfectly playable classic games? The SNES trumped the Genesis both in popularity seeing how the SNES outsold it by far and had almost twice as many games therefore contributing to the industry growth much more. You talk like some butthurt SEGA fanboy who actually believes the Saturn had a shot against the PS1 yet at the same time sound like some 20 year old who cares so much about graphics and performance who likely started with a PS1 cuz anything prior to that was "for kiddiez". Maybe you're just an anti Nintendo loser who comes to the comment section of a NINTENDO FOCUSED channel to champion your system and talk back to anyone who disagrees. The numbers don't lie, but revisionist history is one hell of a drug I guess.
And without having to brag about "my video game and arcade collectionzz", the NES was my first system so I probably know my stuff.
My favorite titles on the sega genesis mini are
Ecco The Dolphin
Eternal Champions
Kid Chameleon
Shinobi III
strider
Mega Man The Wily Wars
Ghouls and ghosts
Street fighter II: Special Championship Edition
Road Rash II
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Castle Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
World Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse And Donald Duck
Super Fantasy Zone
Contra Hard Corps
Castlevania Bloodlines
Monster World IV
Phantasy Star IV
Gunstar Heroes
Columns
Earthworm Jim
Tetris
Darius
Beyond Oasis
Streets Of Rage 2
Toejam And Earl
Vectorman
Wonderboy In Monster World
Thunder Force III
Light Crusader
It's a shame that some games were cut from the Mega Drive mini. I'll probably just order a Genesis mini if I was ever going to buy one.
www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/06/mega_drive_mini_games_list_all_42_titles_revealed Considering this guy didn't read this article from his own website, that mistake was pretty bad. Europe/American versions are same lineup, just the Pal vs NTSC type.
>Talks about Street Fighter II
>Shows Virtua Fighter 2
I am so excited for this!
Yes, but no sports games??? I grew up playing super Mônaco gp, Lakers vs celtics and NHL. Best time ever. They put road rash from EA, they could easily put Lakers vs celtics
So if you change the language in the settings, you get a different version of the game from what i heard??
So when is this being released in the UK?
Scanlines for what, that's why this is in HD to make it look better not to make it look ugly, and also so many great Sega games and most people complaining about sonic games not being added, forget sonic they should of added holyfield boxing and legends of the ring to name a few not more sonic games
you ok Zion ?? that cough sounds horrible !! :D i always loved sonic spinball, dont know how many times i played through that game. this looks like a good pick-up :D
sega needs to make a dreamcast mini
Man, Im very excited for this thing! but uh... why echo one and not echo 2? Im not a huge echo the dolphin fan but echo 2 was waaaaay better imo.
Don't have money for this but its stellar looking.
Picking it up via of the living god Amazon. My favorite game on the system will be Castllevsnia Bloodlines.
I JUST want Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
You can get it in Steam for less than $3.00
B bumbs I want it on the Mini foo
Ye I know I was just saying that too make you feel a better. If I didn't Im sorry
The music on Sonic 3 is very poor because it had to be redone to avoid Michael Jackson's estate lawsuit. If you really want Sonic 3, go uy the Sonic Mega Collection on Gamecube, Ps2 or Xbox.
Shockz I have two versions of Sonic 3 & Knuckles already, the Vintage Collection that’s backwards compatible on Xbox One and Sonic 3 Complete on my Raspberry Pie. I wanted it to be included on the Genesis Mini. Sega has been neglecting rereleases of Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles for so long that they’ll damn near be forgotten.
My question is why does the website that is on the tag not work anymore?
In the hood we call you “tendo life” 😂
This list isn't North American exclusive. The UK MegaDrive also has most of those titles. Like Virtua Fighter 2, Shinobi 3, Sonic Spinball at glance.
R.I.P. AtGames
Rest in Piss more like, good riddance
@@nintendo1889x for real
I’m getting it and the six button controller
Castle of Illusion, Wonder Boy in Monster World and the 1st Sonic are not in the Japanese variants.
Does it play carts? I assume not but gotta make sure 😅
When do we get the Playstation Mini Review.
i think they don't add certain games on these like sonic 3 and knuckles or ristar because they might make a second sega mini later on i still haven't played mine yet my girl got it for my birthday i might crack it open tonight after work
Contra Hard Corps, pronounced CORE not CORPSE
If you change the language to Japanese or some European language, you will get that version of the game...
No primal rage ? Sad about it
What are the ratings for the games?
They have already pulled the Sega mini from store shelves. You can thank UA-cam and the Hackers for it being not available anymore .
Getting mine today as well. Just a reminder- one could also get- Sega Genesis Classics on ps4 or xbox one for about $30 and comes with over 50 titles.
A dreamcast mini should be next
The "added addition of save states?"
I wish it had sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles, zombies ate my neighbors but it has Mickey! I loved world of illusion as a kid. This looks great. I might get have to get this. Would have loved tmnt hyperstone heist. I’m glad Disney is rereleasing Aladdin and Lion King
Alison Patten yeah I was really shocked when both Castle and World of Illusion were going to be on the mini, but it makes sense since Sega did produce them both. TMNT Hyperstone Heist would have been great, as well as Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure, but there might be a way to hack it with what we want maybe.
Getting one!!!😁😁😁
Can it play Genesis cartridges, and more importantly can it play them well (unlike the AtGames crap)? If so, I might consider picking one up. If not, I'll prob skip it. Also, any idea how easy or difficult it is to mod? One other thing, you didn't mention compatibility with other controllers. I know it comes with 2 but it would be nice to be able to use ones people already own as well.
A review of a Genesis, on a NINTENDO FOCUS CHANNEL?!;
this is NINTEDNO life not SEGA life what the heck is going on around here
yeah kinda strange what next?
Turbo-grafx 16, Atari, Sony PlayStation, who knows what else.
Go on their website it's even weirder
The only reason I came here was for the Sega review.
@@pferreira1983 Well now they got your view so f*ck off
Sega Life. Wait...uhh...let's rewind. Hold on. Can't we all get along? We can. Peace.
Why is there no Battletoads?
It does have scanlines
I remember when Nintendo Power wouldn't dare review anything not from Nintendo.
Please Sega ❤ new Alex kidd.
Contra Hard Corpse is a great game
Good review, although I was hoping for a European Mega Drive mini review.
Same thing except the name.
@@pferreira1983 Yeah I read from other sources that the games are 60hz and that you only have the various European and Japanese versions (possibly the few Korean as well).
@@Hmbs271 Yeah I believe the games will be 60hz, it isn't for analogue so speed depending on region shouldn't be an issue any more.
@@pferreira1983Yeah, which is good considering what a mess Sony did. Still I would've wished the American versions of the games where there in addition to the European. Oh well, at least we can play the Japanese Vampire Killer and Japanese Contra The Hard Corps (which might even be better than the American version bar language ofc).
@@Hmbs271 The region specific versions of the games are on there from what I understand mate.
I have one and my favorite games on there is light crusader and legend of thor
You miss out the Asia version
Corpse 😂😂 it's pronounced "core".
Anyway, hopefully this will be as easily hacked as it's Nintendo counterparts so we can put Sonic 3 on it.
It’s not. It’s Corps... y say it how y see it.
My system won't come on. Can anyone help me on what to because I'm getting pissed off that it's not working.
No NBA jam, no rocket knight, no tecmo superbowl, no ristar, teenage mutant ninja turtles, what were they thinking
Too bad that it wasn't compared to "Sega Genesis Classics"/"Sega Mega Drive Classics" on a cart for Switch :-/
💖Genesis mini has WAY MORE games with replay value and games with short sessions OR long sessions compare to SNES mini. Will you really play every day SnesRPG ? You have thousands of hours and with TOP action games on the Megadrive mini.
Even Contra has better replay value more characters weapons pathways embranchment hidden levels and bosses. That's the "megadriver" philosophy (a name given in Japan for a more hardcore audience than mainstream )
