      Sega could make Saturn mini. You just need to get everyone to buy as many of Genesis mini and search for a lost source code of Saturn(yes Sega lost a source code of Saturn hence why they haven’t bothered to rerelease any Saturn games). I’ll make this simple: Get everyone to buy many of this and search for a lost source code of Saturn.

  • @Mechanicoid

    I bought the US and Japanese versions. I can handle the sound lag and the sound quality is the best I've heard that isn't my Model 1 Genesis (it's funny that a 30 year old chip is still giving programmers heck to emulate). I'm happy to get some titles that have been either pricey to obtain or are obscure Japanese releases. My biggest hope is your last message. I bought the Minis, because I want to see more of Sega's back catalog available to own. I want every Super Scaler game out there. I want a Saturn Mini because I know one day the disc drive will fail on mine or the console will die. Sega's history needs to be preserved properly and I think us Sega fans want to make that a reality with our wallets so long as love and attention is given to the releases.

      I know I am replying late, but you seem like the type of person who will have an opinion on this: the sound difference between original and mini is NOT consistent from game to game, right? Like... does it seem as though some games are missing some depth of sound, while others are much closer to being spot on? Sonic in his demo sounded pretty close.

    Seeing that box brings back memories from when my sister got me the genesis with Sonic 1 packed in and an extra controller way back in 1991. A week later I got alien storm and a few other games and eventually streets of rage 1 two months before streets of rage 2 came out.
    So happy my genesis is still working and I can use the everdrive to play games I used to have along with games I wanted to get. Hopefully I'll be able to get a mini too since it's looking good even with the few problems mentioned and hopefully sega will do a firmware fix for them.

    Is it just my imagination, or does the sound delay for a couple games actually help rather than hurt? Streets of Rage 2, for example, in the original, the punch sound effect starts at the very beginning of the animation, before the hit. In the Mini, the sound is delayed, and it ends up syncing better with the punch. Same with Sonic, the jump sound effect begins just before the jump animation in the original, and feels more natural with a delay.

    • @sherrdreamz7232

      The ring sound is the one that is most irksome in Sonic imo.

    • @sherrdreamz7232
      @sherrdreamz7232 5 років тому +2

      @nunya baznus original hardware vs typical emulation lag in addition to the 3-5 frames delay due to the underclocked processor of the Genesis Mini is to blame primarily. There are TV's and monitors that can get digital output down to less than 30-40 milliseconds of lag. "Game Mode" plus a real 120 to 240 refresh rate can help.
      Yet even if the best combination of modern display tools are utilized the Sound lag remains on the system. It's slightly worse than top of the line emulation software, which already has nearly half a second of lag compared to a native Sega Genesis.

    • @Lightblue2222
      @Lightblue2222 5 років тому

      i hooked a pc up to my flatscreen and the lag is un-noticable compared to sega mini, which can be seen in the sound just from watching a youtube video and comparing it to any other version, even atgames lol. so yea its kinda bad,. Glad someone can find a bright side to it.

    • @Lightblue2222
      @Lightblue2222 5 років тому +1

      @nunya baznus what do you mean I don't have the right? When I can see and hear the sound just by watching anyone play it on UA-cam, I don't need to play it to know. Also I'm talking about sound lag, obviously I'd have to play to know input lag. But come on its quite evident just by watching that the ring of sonic doesn't sound until after you touch etc.. Lord x demonstrated it for us as well with different games are you saying his video is pointless? Ok if you don't play with the sound on that's your thing, I'm only referring to the disappointing sound lag that has never been prevalent on any Sega release till now. If it's not a big deal to you that's great, but some people were expecting at least Kega Fusion standards.

    • @Lightblue2222
      @Lightblue2222 5 років тому +2

      @nunya baznus I'm not using headphones or Bluetooth. It's bothering alot of people, especially in principle. There's no need to insult us. It's not UA-cam, because it's in this Sega Lord X video review among others, and other Genesis platforms look fine on youtube. I keep hearing about sound lag in the comments section from ppl who bought one. It's not that the games are even bad, just below their original standard. It might not bother everyone but fans have the right to complain.
      It's nice if someone can warp into thinking it's a positive but I highly doubt it was done to optimise the game.
      It's a fact it's there because hackers went inside and can see the cpu is slightly underclocked.
      Underclocking has never been a positive. People are even working on trying to fix it and probably will via hacking.
      Sega was so close to making a perfect system, to be the top dogs in something again. And it takes perfection to do that, like when they made the original.
      If the sound lag wasn't there Sega Lord X would have had nothing negative to say about it. Same with everyone else.
      He said it didn't ruin it but could notice it the entire time with all of the games. He doesnt have OCD. Its just being honest.
      Im glad it's not bothering people though, and I could probably get use to it. But since its there I rather just stick to free emulation and or my real genesis.
      I may start to think about getting a mini when it's resolved. Someone already hacked into it and overclocked it but hasn't released how to do it yet, not until he finds a safe way to easily do it without corrupting the system.

    How the hell do they mess up the emulation for sound in 2019??

    • @Lightblue2222
      @Lightblue2222 5 років тому +1

      exactly. especially when theyve never messed that up before, and free emulators online do it better. There really isnt a good reason in this day and age, with so many free emulators that do it better. Even the latest AtGames did it better. They should have stuck with them, or went to Kega Fusion. Maybe Nintendo paid Sega to slow the CPU. It would have been easy to port just like their previous collections, yet they took the extra step to slow it down for us.
      but seriously its got programmers stumped. it's 11 frames slow, and noticable, once you notice, its always there.
      the system was just shy of being perfect

    • @Lightblue2222
      @Lightblue2222 5 років тому +1

      @JURO • I own the original AtGames and it sucks, it instantly gave AtGames a bad name. Looked and sounded terrible. But AtGame's last model, which I think is their 2nd HD model, actually fixed their issues. This is why Sega was debating about using them until people told them not to. The latest AtGames revision I can't seem to find much wrong with, especially not sound lag, that was never one of AtGames issues.
      The latest AtGames may actually be a better consol than the new Mini, in that it plays 100s of games off an SD card, can use the original Genesis controller, and has no apparent sound lag.
      When I first heard about Sega using AtGames I freaked not realising that the last AtGames wasn't bad.

I think combining those two might be best since there's not really a whole lot of compelling software on the latter to do a mini by itself and, while I have little experience with the MasterSystem, I'm compelled to say the same with that console as well.

    Thank you for the review, I was wondering about this myself. The library thing isn't something I worry about with these mini consoles as there will always be a way to add games to them later. That is unfortunate that the sounds are low and laggy. At first I was thinking "How bad could it be." But then after listening to it I was surprised by how off they sounded. Especially in Road Rash. I was thinking of getting one but I think I will wait for it to come down in price first, or at least when the 6 button controllers come down also.

      KrispyNoKen Gens? The only reason to use it now would be running it on a PC from late 90s-early 2000s because actual emulation core is written in the assembly language, so it's very fast. The more I see about the Genesis Mini the more I like it. The only lag in audio I could see in your video was in Thunder Force III. But I already own the real Genesis and Saturn versions so that doesn't matter. The rest of the lag was undetectable to me. But that's not surprising consider I went to play Rock Band on my projector the other day and calibration showed ENORMOUS lag that I had never noticed when playing games. LOL
    Based on your video it looks like M2 did an absolutely incredible job with this and I'm almost tempted to get one just for how cool the thing is.
    But with the entire genesis library on my Wii and my real Genesis with loose games that need reproduction cases...I just can't justify it right now.
    But if I had the income of my last job this would be a day one purchase for nostalgia and execution alone. Tho it DOES make me want a model 1 just for the heavenly stereo sound through headphones. Ah, the memories!
    Also, "oomph" does NOT belong on menu screen music. When you are stuck in an area for a long time (a dungeon, an overworld, a menu, rousing music becomes REALLY annoying REALLY fast). So I'll disagree with you on that as well.

    As far as the sound goes, it's similar to music nowadays. A Casio Synthesizer keyboard from the 80's will not sound like a modern version. Manufacturing processes and materials have changed. Some chip manufacturers are no longer in business. So it's hard to fully duplicate. Minor issue.

    Best thing is that I just found out you can use the ebitdo wireless Sega Saturn controller on the mini. I just picked it up for 20 bucks Cdn on amazon. I can't wait. The Saturn controller was the best game pad ever made IMO. I also have their Nintendo styled arcade stick and the PlayStation styled Pro pad and that's some quality stuff for its ease of use and build quality. Its cheap to upgrade the arcade stick if you need to but out of the box its not that bad.
