  • If you just want to hear what they sound like go to 6:36 for the comparison.
    This project was started to create pickups in the same style as the Schecter super-strats of the early 80s. It all stems from a love of Mark Knopfler's tone, especially on the live rendition of Tunnel of Love.

    Great video, beautiful work and finished pups, which sound fantastic. 43 AWG will take perhaps 20% less wire than 42 AWG for same resistance, something to consider. traditionally only front tele pups used 43. Tele rear pick ups, strats and gibson humbuckers were all 42 gauge. Haven't seen a video of the differing gauge wires until yours. cheers!

      Thanks Eric. I am glad you liked the results.
      I do plan on winding another 'layer' on top of what I did here to get that switchable overwound single coil like the original Schecters of the 80s. That's why I used 43AWG so i'd have the room.

      Thank you! I am glad you liked how they sounded. I do plan to wind another 'layer' on top of these coils for that switchable Schecter feature.

    Sounds great, Simon. Would you make a set to sell? If so, please let me know cost. Thank you.

      Thanks Brian! I’m not currently setup for manufacturing. Once I’ve recreated the tapped version of these pickups I might reconsider.

    Excellent video. A question. Using alnico 5 and heavy formvar 42awg wire, what should be the approximate resistance of the neck and middle pickups so that the mid frequencies are a little scooped (attenuated)?. Thanks for answering.

      Thank you! I'd go for around 5.0 - 5.5k. It'll give lower output, but with reduced mid-range, and clarity in the lows.

    Nice content simon! Wondering if any upgrade version in your plan? If so, would love to supply free custom PCBs/ 3D printing parts, if possible, looking forward to any cooperation together! 🤗(PCBWay zoey)

      Hi! Thank you for the kind words.
      Yes, I am currently producing a schematic and layout with intent to use you guys. I had been contacted by a colleague of yours Liam a few months ago as he had seen my blog. Sadly my day job takes up a lot of time but I hope to have something ready in a few months.

    They’re definitely hotter with more bite and snap. Do u have an octaver on it or something?

      Nope. No octaver on it. I agree with your assessment on bite and snap.

    What is the toggle switch arrangement ?

    • @hotglassbottles
      @hotglassbottles  Рік тому +1

      Each pickup has an on-off switch. This means you get more combinations than with a standard 5-way switch. As in: All pickups on, and neck & bridge on.
