Thanks!!! We're glad you notice it. It does make for a long video, but so many of us have a TON of money and effort tied up in these amazing RC planes, and who wants to dump all that cash just to find out a plane sucks?!??! - Not me ;) Thanks again and glad you're here with us!
This is my 4th or 5th (lost count) of the umx Pitts! Love this version with the Safe technology. The first 3 Pitts flew them almost daily and ran them into the ground (literally). The 4th one had Safe technology but decided to put pontoons on and fly off of water. Worked until receiver controls got wet. On my 5th one and being careful with it, for now!😂
I love the UMX plane lineup . I love what my friends say when I get to the club field. " There comes Johnny with his suitcase planes ". Thanks Brian and camera crew for your review of the UMX Pitts V2 ! I been patiently waiting for your review on this plane. I will be getting me one from your link as soon as I can. You da man Brian !
Huge UMX fan myself! My son and I have the Cessna, Waco, Beast 3d, Mustang, J3 Cub, Timber, Turbo Timber, Yak 54 and Revolution P3. The Timbers get the most stick time, the Cessna is the best flyer (as long as its dead calm) and the P3 is an awesome aerobatic biplane.
Thanks so much Johnny Maynard!!! I was super hopeful it was going to be great, but now I know! Can't wait for a few more UMX releases. Pitts bit.ly/3pLkVZn
I love my UMX's, they allow me to fly when I have downtime while I'm on the road driving truck. Just picked the Pitts up last week and I love it. I was waiting for your video on this to buy one but couldn't wait. I'll grab a few batteries from your link.
Thanks Matt! Love this plane, and good idea! The boxes keep them pretty safe, but still need a Tx, so I'm always nervous about bringing both...but I HAVE done it, and now that you say it, I have a customer in Brooklyn Iowa that I'm going to see later this month....I should bring this, and he would just think it was the coolest thing ever!
@@BrianPhillipsRC my IX20 has a case also. I have it covered LoL. I travel thru your part of the woods a few times a month, think about running into you somewhere around Des Moines sometimes.
My Favorite Line. "If you have 83 planes to rebind, it's going to be a bad day!" Love it. Great Video as always, appreciate you taking the time to walk thru the charging for the new folks. Thanks Brian and CCrew!
@@BrianPhillipsRC lol. I Just found this out when I sold my Nx8 and got a Nx10. Only 11 planes but still takes awhile. Gotta love first world problems.😁 This might be another reason to mention why going to a Nx8 or even a Nx10 is good right off the bat if possible. I did a Dx6e then Nx8 and now a Nx10 in 1 yr. Wish I did the nx10 first. Would have saved a ton of money and time. “Buy Once, Cry Once” Pick up my new pitts tomorrow. I love the 850mm so when you said this flew better, I immediately phoned the hobby store to put one on hold. Love your input and videos as always. Enjoy your summer everyone!
Brian man you have personality for this. My son is addicted to your RC plane videos. Of the thousands of rc channels on UA-cam, my son throws a tantrum if I try to watch any other channel while he is still awake. He is only 2 years old. I was thinking about getting this plane for him for his first plane, until I heard you say that you would not suggest it as a beginner plane. I think I will start him on the Aeroscout. I bought the Carbon Z when he was born, and now that he is a toddler, I am going to let him watch me assemble it and take it up on its maiden flight.
I really love the videos and I appreciate that you take the extra time out of your day to tell us every little detail and because of you I finally bought my very first 1.5m turbo timber evo but I really wish I had remembered to use your links but don't worry I will be buying another plane soon and I'll make sure I use them. oh and thank you to the camera crew for providing us with some awesome video, can't wait for what's to come
just bought my first rc plane, not expensive at all, can't wait to fly it,as soon as it came the weather turned bad😣 your plane is great, awesome flying 😀👍👍
I have a NX8 and before 2 months it went into the orange screen of death, Return for service, Oh I was upset, My baby is out for repairs, I love that transmitter!!!
WHAT??!?!? There was no fixing it ( at home??? ) - Did you happen to see my DX18 fix video??? Maybe the same fix???? ua-cam.com/video/LO7-xHbprBY/v-deo.html Man, I hope this doesn't happen to me!!!!
I have three UMXs and this might very well be a great addition to the fleet. I do wish they chose the IC2 connector for this plane and a matching 3S small battery (non-Smart is fine) as it is just a better more robust connector. While I'm sure this would be a great hand launcher (w/Safe on), landing on a grass flying field is likely not so great. Otherwise, seems like a solid entry. Another quick tip is to use a permanent marker and mark the ground (black) side of the JST connectors (battery and plane) to keep from getting these backwards and burning up the ESC/Radio board.
I agree about the IC2 connectors! I went out my way to get some IC2 . I have the UMX Timber , UMX A-10 and now the Pitts and they all have different connectors. Luckily I was able to find enough old stuff to make a adapter cable.
Thanks for such an informative presentation, flight and ground school. My Pitts V2 sitting in my office, still savoring it after a week. Only place I have to fly is over a pond next to my house. All local parks ban rc planes of any size and type but have designated areas for drones...and I was unsuccessful in trying to convince the authorities what I have are starch wing drones. Before flying over the pond, circled by tall pines and inhabited with alligators, I was thinking of going out early Sunday morning and looking for a large parking lot and do some familiarization flights with 2S before challenging the gators, trees and water. I'd fly every day if I had a place to fly.
Sometimes, "convincing the authorities" to forgive is easier than asking for permission. Keep in mind, this plane is SUB 250g, therefore it's not covered under the drone registry...it is not a drone, as defined by the registry, therefore the rules do not apply, but still a good idea to keep everyone as happy as they can be ;) Good luck!
If you can fly this as a line flier, and enjoy it - this plane will blow your socks off!!!! Noticed PPG picture - cool ;) Can't wait to get my 11th flight in...10th was HERE in central Iowa, but had a rough landing and sprained my right ankle ;( but it's about 95% better now, and can't wait to give it another go! All systems worked perfectly, except the pilot - LOL (I forgot to get out of the seat...until I was practically touching down - BIG MISTAKE!!!)
Just bought this plane and it has the same self induced oscillation. I thought something was wrong with it. Glad I watched your video and found out it’s normal 👍
Yes, for sure! This one flies GREAT! Ground handling is not as amazing as certain UMX'es but still better average for real small planes. In the air, it flies AMAZING!
Ive been going back and fourth over the UMX and the 850mm pitts as a SECOND plane. To me the difference in price is negligible because both seem like great deals with a $60 difference in price. Hardly going to break the bank. The one thing that keeps me leaning towards the UMX is the ability to fly in my neighborhood under 250g. Then put it on 3s when i go to the field. Cool. I think the 850mm may be a bit big for my immediate fly area. :( I also like that 3s gets you extreme performance out of the UMX that only 4s will get you with the 850mm which should factor in to cost. Then there is flight time. The UMX pitts has a great flight time for such a small plane. So for me, it’s the UMX over the 850mm thanks to this video.
The UMX is better. Get the UMX. When you're ready - get the 1.4m FMS bprc.me/FMS_Pitts | bprc.me/Pitts + Rx (since it's PNP - make sure it's got or doesn't Reflex before you get your Rx!!!) This is seriously good advice. The 850mm is EXACTLY the same plane. You won't care - speaking from experience. The Sub 250 MAKES this work. When you want BIG, get the 1400mm - you will LOOOOOOVE it.
I had to watch a commercial prior to this video about someone complaining about washing their balls in detergent. I'm serious. Really serious. So at what point do content creators get to chose what sort of stupid commercials display on their video?
I'm disappointed that Google chooses to do this, but all I can say is that UA-cam gets paid first. We creators are hardly a consideration. Funny thought, they're all worried MY content will be offensive - what a bummer! I hate when I see the FAKE F-14 video that's purporting a $10,000 model for $10 or some such thing, and using stolen footage from all over the internet, having nothing to do with the item...Chinese counterfeit at it's best. This same rip off scam company does the same with the "$5000 Drone" - I especially hate that one!
Just starting out, and looking for a RTF micro pusher prop, that can cope with say 5 to 10 mph wind. Is there such a plane Brian? Only large grassy areas where I live, so landing gear is a no go. Many thanks.
There are mini pusher props, the Mini Aeroscout (AeroScout bit.ly/30MNn1c), but I kinda don't like that one. Have you considered the 1.1m AeroScout - THAT is a great plane for a beginner. 5-10mph wind would be okay for it, but remember, wind is more about direction and how steady it is, in relation to "flayablility" in my experience. Stay tuned. We have one other plane we need
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you for the quick reply. Just viewed your Arrows Hawkeye video, with wind noise in the background. Think that would cut the mustard?
@@old-rcplane-phart The 850mm Pitts and this one can never be in the same place at the same time. We just had to put our pup to sleep after over 15 yrs. I actually lol’d She knows me soooo well! picking up the new one saturday. I’m 2hrs from the nearest hobby store so looks like date night in the city is gonna pay off.😇
@@BrianPhillipsRC No, your friend that also flies 'GAVE' u that 1 to fly! (Thats how my brother from another mother do ours! 😜) MY condolences about the pup. IDK what state of mind id be in IF anything happens to my service dog. I'd say ud be combative & probably homicidal.
I need to see your reaction to the durafly tundra. I took mine out today with the Pitts, timber x and A10. Even after a few years on the shelf, It's still one of my favorite planes after all of these years and models...
I've had the 2s Pitts for years and never considered it the least bit underpowered. Never have a thought to getting the bigger Pitts bc it's wingloading is much too high. Have the same size one from HobbyKing ( long out of production) and it's a great flyet.
Definitely gotta add this little beauty to the hangar. (Did we get a little Easter Egg on the table in the background?) ;) Another great video guys!! Great job by the "camera crew" to keep up with that one. :) Thanks for all you do for the hobby!!
Biggest weakness of the Spektrum chargers. One of Mines is caved too. I glue the corners on that one. On the new one I try to avoid touching the screen.
I'm really digging this plane. It flies so well on 3S that it poses an opportunity for Eflite: more umx planes with 3S power would be great. Imagine a 600mm, 3S UMX Carbon Cub? I'm not talking about something way beyond scale flight but rather what we would see if the UMX Turbo Timber were powered by a 3S 300-400mah battery. I could only hope others see a gap worth filling that Horizon might consider it. I like scale flying though. It wouldn't be right for a cub to fly 4X scale flight.
About time YOU got 1!😄👍 7 minute flights on the venom 3s 450mah & it FITS! 👍🤯✈️🛫🛩️ (& If u want the batteries, better get em ASAP before all the venom stuff is bought out by Redcat😄!!!) Redcat bought the venom name/rights when venom filed bankruptcy.. .
Been waiting for this review haha Man this thing looks rock solid and a blast to fly. Have to add this to my list now lol. I just got my 600mm ultrix going. Had to buy a messed up one to get the ESC out of since they've been sold out/backordered for half a year lol. Gonna maiden it tonight hopefully!
That's a bummer! I had one with a motor lead that broke off - OH YEAH, it was the A-10...I took it apart and found the problem on the brushless motor, and got it replaced....thought the battery had died, but the motor had. Hate when this happens, but HH sent one out without any issues.
YES! But wind is hardly scale for UMX ;) That's one of the reasons I LOVE the 3S power in this plane. On a calm evening, sunset and all, this plane is gonna be like butter on 2S ;)
I have one in a storage unit. Tiny Two...would love to fly her, but need a PPL to do it legally, or at least a sport license. Some day, I hope to fly her, but for now, it's just costing us money to store her ;(
I don't think that was self imposed vibration while taxing, the tires are super small, and your concrete drive has a pretty regular brush texture. If your drive was truly smooth, which obviously isn't ideal for traction, I doubt it'd shake about like that
@@BrianPhillipsRC you had the better vantage point from which to judge, so you're probably right. Have a great Sunday brother, treat yourself and the camera crew to something nice today
The umx pitts is BETTER! The eflite 850mm pitts is good on 3s, unstable on 4s. If YOU want a fun, fit anywhere in anything bird, (& less expensive too!), get this one! 👍 Even on 3s, the 850mm is extremely nose heavy.
Stupid question but what Is that glider apart from the umx redian behind you when your talking about the charger and smart battery 50:11 the scale looking one
Not a stupid question! That's a UMX ASK21 - it was not powered when I got it...it was a pure glider with a hook release. I added the motor and folding prop, but she really needs brushless so you can have BREAKING, as that's almost 100% necessary to halt the prop when you're ready to glide. It's been LOOOONG since discontinued, but we have videos about it ;) Check them out! (Search "ASK" on my channel, and you'll see lots of old videos)
Just got the Sabre delivered today.. unfortunately winds are up to 25 mph and that a bit too much for my comfort on a maiden Little pitts always good times 👍👍👍 Would the 800mAh 3s fit?
@@BrianPhillipsRC looking forward for your review... for some reason the Rc Sailers reviews just don't seem like a valid source. But.. I could be wrong ...
Umx pitts. More fun, more aerobatic, can go slow on 2s, aerobatic on 3s, & 7 minute flights! (3s/450 ovionic or venom batteries) BUT, it all depends on how comfortable YOU are. If u like to putt around, with an occasional loop or roll, the timber.
If you don't have the Timber UMX, get that first. It's got a super wide flight envelope, and if you haven't had it, it's a MUST HAVE for every UMX fleet. Then this next ;) Pitts bit.ly/3pLkVZn Timber bit.ly/3cEjplB P.S. Sorry to disagree with you Old-RC ;)
My son and I have the following UMX planes: Cessna, Waco, Beast 3d, Mustang, J3 Cub, Timber, Turbo Timber, Yak 54 and Revolution P3. Out of all of them its the Timbers that get by far the most stick time because they are so versatile but they are closer to sport planes than aerobatic.
Hi Brian, I have the UMX Pitts too! Can you explain why you did not have to do the Safe select by toggling the switch 5 times ? I have not yet done my transmitter set up yet!
Hey Brian, I got into flying last year. Still a bit green. I see you really push the nx8. I did a lot of side by side comparisons and bought the dx8e. It didn't seem to me like I was going to use the few extra things the nx8 offered over the dx8e. I saw a video of yours a while back that said don't buy a dx. Why? Was that specifically the dx model or does that include the e models too? I was considering a umx pitts or the 850mm model. With your little hints I will likely hold off to see what's coming down the pipe. I depend a lot on safe technology right now til I really learn the controls. My umx turbo timber is treating me well so far. Been glued together a few times but still flies like a champ. Keep it up, I enjoy your videos and honest opinions.
Thanks for the quesiton Chad. NX8 is going to keep support longer. This is why I don't ever suggest the "e" transmitters. This UMX is amazing, and the next few planes will be a few months down the road, if that changes your mind. We have been hearing about planes for over a year, and many have yet to be delivered due to delays in supply chain, and covid stuff...but soon the UMX lineup will start to be rolled back out, but to a lesser degree than they once experienced. As for the NX8 vs DX8e - if you get the NX8 you will never think twice about it. IF you get the DX8e, the first time you can't do something, you'll be pissed. I get the budget concerns...who wants to spend cash on a Tx when they can get another plane with the price difference...totally get it...but take it from me. I have had a lot of nice transmitters. I want to buy ONE...and then when I feel like it, I'll upgrade...not when the MFG decided to retire my long time go-to-tx. Even my very nice DX18 Gen1 can barely keep up with the latest firmware. Processor is too slow...not too slow to work, but had a hard time running the menus and mix and sequencing menus in particular. Bottom line, since I'm up against the wire for time here... If you get the NX8 - you will be plopping a LOT of money, but if you're going to plop slightly less for a DX8e, and then be left wanting, you will not be happy. $330 vs $400 - trust me. $70 worth of value will be almost immediately understood. You will NEVER regret the NX8...unless you need 12 channels for some custom built plane next...then you just need to get the IX20 and be done with it ;) Tx bit.ly/3f4JhZl
Yes. Very good handling. I was amazed. UMX'es are usually the best small planes, but even the best small planes doesn't mean they'll be great flying - this one is excellent!
Brian, I ordered the Micro PH to JST adapter but its the wrong one. Do you know what that connection is called on the older UMX set ups? The Micro PH is for my little Radian, for instance. BTW, love your videos and love my collection of PITTS!
Brian would you buy the UMX Pitts or the 850mm Pitts? Approx. $60 difference in price but I have to buy new smaller batteries. Already have a the larger 3S
I love the 850. If you get one, don't be afraid to set it up with 50% expo because it is super responsive. Don't land it hot; land it with the kind of approach you would for a jet, meaning a tad high angle of attack.
This is a weird answer...I actually like the UMX better - OR the 1.4m FMS Pitts - the 850 is harder to fly, but only marginally. I think the power to weight is kinda between 3 and 4S and that makes it fly kind strange....this one is PERFECT!
Brian do you think it can handle a 550 mAh 3s? I have 5 of them and would love to find a nice Plane to use them in. They are high C rated so no worries on puffing them.
What's more fun a timber x umx or the umx Pitts¿ It seems almost as Aerobatic capable as timber ? Your opinion pls sir I'm trying to figure out which one to get
Sorry, I'd love to work with MotionRC, but they have been unwilling since our inception to work with us, and recently we found out that they're actively trying to hurt us...so no marketing for MotionRC here. I used to think they were a real stand up company, but not anymore.
Megan and I spend about 5 years, and maybe $10-25K per year buying and reviewing planes before they would even give us the time of day. After thousands of hours of footage, we finally got setup with a few very small companies, and they helped us by sending out items, but then eventually, we were very fortunate to end up working with several very good brands and companies. It's much harder, and less fun that most realize. Obviously, there are many perks, but people don't see what happens behind the scenes. It's not uncommon to get a plane on a Wednesday afternoon, and have to have footage for 10AM then next day! This is real, and has happened many times...not necessarially Wed to Thursday...but just an example. Megan makes this happen. I'll be working till 8PM or 1AM or whatever it is at my day job, but when I'm on the road, she's working through vendor issues, shipping issues, and trying to help me keep our "pipline" full - planes/heli's/ppg stuff/ etc - here ready for when mother nature throws us a bone, if she does - and sometimes, the bone is -35 degrees F but calm morning before work at 6:30AM. I can't even talk about dealing with Chinese without people thinking I'm a jerk...but if you've ever worked with them, they are shrewd business men (and women) they have no problem lying. They will say or do about anything to make a deal, and they have sky high expectations. It's a chore, but after doing it 200-300 times, you start to recognize pasterns of behaviors. Dealing with American companies is easier, but harder to get a foot in the door, and even when you do deal with them, they still deal with the Chinese, since almost 100% of this stuff is coming from Shenzhen, China, or surrounding areas. Then you get to deal with unsupportive audience. This will test your patience like nothing else. It will ruin a good channel in a few hours, if let out of check. It can drive people to kill themselves. It is the hardest part of this work BY FAR.... and then there's the honest misunderstandings, by me and by supportive viewers. This is tough too. It's hard to put yourself "out there" and be so transparent, and then have people constantly questioning your motives. It's draining! Then, like your quesiton - people want what you have (for good reason) but they don't understand the REAL cost...they just see, WOW, that's a lot of planes, batteries, transmitters, etc...(Not picking on you, Ryan, BTW)...but they want help, and I do help, but it's not always reciprocated, or well received. Running a UA-cam channel - It's a constant PR nightmare. People constantly think this is just a game, but it's become a huge part of our life, and a big part of our income that supports our family (6 people). Here's the no-bs answer that the "other guys" won't tell you. Most that try fail, and even if you do find success, If you love this hobby, and want to make it a job, you will be selling part of your precious hobby to the world. A "free" plane, won't replace the time you're spending doing it. Even if you're very lucky and get to our level or beyond, you'll still pay a large price in this arena. Even if you do a great job, your precious hobby will NECESSARILY become a business...some people can't handle this. You aren't selling your time; you're selling your reputation. Even if you do it right, your reputation will be changed by those who find it IMPOSSIBLE to make a living doing what you love...because they will be jealous. To get what you desire, not that it's a bad "gig", but keeping in mind, it's way more than just "free planes" it's all about partnering with companies. Dealing with and keeping people happy, and of course, improving all the time. It's incredibly competitive, and hard work. I love it, but one could MUCH easier just go down to Target or The Home Depot or similar work maybe 5-10 hours a week and you'd be able to get exactly what you want each month (earning $400-600 per month at these numbers) and working a LOT less hours than what we're putting in. Then you don't have to "make it work" - again, not bitching here, I love what we've doing, but most people don't understand the toll it takes on our family. It's very hard to make this work, and we've been very lucky in a few circumstances that lead to our success, plus there's the fact that we've invested well over a million dollars to set ourselves up in a situation that would support this lifestyle. Admittedly, this was also in pursuit of other life goals at the same time. My point is, it's not been without significant financial investment, with minimal payback. Anyway, I suggest you think about this for a few days. After all, we would be your competitors, but we've admittedly had many other smaller channels here, living in harmony with us too! We've also worked with larger channels, but usually that doesn't work out well if they perceive you as a threat to their dominion. UA-cam is all about time in the market, and viewership. It takes YEARS, so usually a small channel will just fail - period - UA-cam has made it almost impossible. I look up to our larger piers, and with exception to the Saylors, who are very decent people, despite my own jealousy of their success / wanting to beat them on a professional level - we love our piers! RCGeek (Chris), Petrincic Bros, Pilot Ryan, all of them (sorry If I missed one or two) and we talk from time to time about stuff. They're all very good to work with, but we all understand we're competing too...Nate and Abby, nice as they may be, won't admit this, and definitely take a more corporate marketing approach to their channel - but they're doing something right, obviously! Good luck!
Looks like fun, and another outstanding review, thanks! You and your intrepid camera crew do a great job. I know you've flown a $hitload of airplanes, have you ever flown a plane you didn't like?
Thanks, and yes. I try to find the positives of many of the worst planes we've flown, but sometimes with certain pattern issues, like with Dynam and HobbyKing planes made it hard to overlook the same issue over and over again. We have had some planes that were so bad, we refused to "do them" when asked, and a few that couldn't make it to us in one piece, and we abandoned them....but to your point, I really do like most planes, and admit that most planes can be made to fly good, but for me, there's a definite tipping point where the effort and cost of making a plane right (or better) make it a really bad pick. We just did a plane, that's coming soon (you'll know) where I was just not happy with it. Hope you'll watch and see what we say. The build was pretty long too - LOL ;) Thanks for being here with us!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian, you have possibly the best RC channel on UA-cam. You've always gone the extra mile to document on video your setups My only wish is for you to use other popular radio systems ie Taranis running OpenTX or EdgeTX. Those RC systems are quite a bit cheaper than Spektrum and are super configurable. Just my 2 cents.
I assume you can, but not 100% sure. I think a DSM2 might work....isn't DX5e DSM2??? Or is it DSMX - if it's "X" then you'll be fine, but not sure if you'll be able to assign the SAFE/AS3X switch for change of state.
S2200 chargers (i have 2!), Hurt as much as swapping over to ALL smart batteries and chargers, but i had a fire from a dumb charger & lipos that not only almost took my house, but almost took my service dog away. @@BrianPhillipsRC TBH, after having dumb everything, & noe having everything smart, if u can afford to swap over, DO! My charger got hot the other day. It stopped. (Had the fan obstructed & didn't know it🤷). Well worth the technology! 👍👋👋👋
Look at dat itty bitty plane..... we got Horse Flys that big down here in Texas! chew tobacco...chew tobacco...chew tobacco spit ..... . cough cough....... !!
Batteries, connectors, and adaptors are out of control. The "Smart Batteries" are great but come on Spektrum you should NOT need to buy separate adaptors to fly or charge.
I tend to agree...but if you get adapters, you can do them both. Gotta admit the Micro PH connectors kinda suck - low contact points, and for this reason, they didn't hold up well, and I have spend a lot of cash on batteries that didn't perform well, so hopefully these will do better ;)
You could, but there might be better choices. Keep in mind the Turbo Timber UMX is a BNF, so you'll need the Transmitter and Batteries and all that - it adds up, NOT that you shouldn't, but it's just a LOT all at once. Here's my list of "Beginner" planes I generally suggest. We have footage with each...check them out. We want you to succeed! you CAN do it, even if you get the Timber FIRST...I just think there will be some heartache involved along the way. WAY Better... Thanks!!! We're glad you notice it. It does make for a long video, but so many of us have a TON of money and effort tied up in these amazing RC planes, and who wants to dump all that cash just to find out a plane sucks?!??! - Not me ;)
Thanks again and glad you're here with us!
Me and my buddy got ours the other day and did the maiden flight this past Tuesday. These are little firecrackers on 3s. Absolutely a joy to fly.
YES SIR!
Pre-ordered this in January and got a few weeks ago. FINALLY got to maiden this past Monday. What a blast. AND, it will fit on my Corvette!!!!
EXCELLENT!!! Flying in style ;)
On my 5th one and being careful with it, for now!😂
I saw the other people were reviewing this I waited to watch yours you do the best job out there on UA-cam
Yes he does!
Thanks guys! We really appreciate you saying that!

I love my UMX's, they allow me to fly when I have downtime while I'm on the road driving truck. Just picked the Pitts up last week and I love it. I was waiting for your video on this to buy one but couldn't wait. I'll grab a few batteries from your link.
You got it made Mate!
All the best to You Cookie.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi
My Favorite Line. "If you have 83 planes to rebind, it's going to be a bad day!" Love it. Great Video as always, appreciate you taking the time to walk thru the charging for the new folks. Thanks Brian and CCrew!
Thanks Dave, and glad you understood my sentiment...I had that happen once when my DX8 got sold, and I upgraded to DX18 - it was a VERY long day ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC
lol. I Just found this out when I sold my Nx8 and got a Nx10. Only 11 planes but still takes awhile. Gotta love first world problems.😁
This might be another reason to mention why going to a Nx8 or even a Nx10 is good right off the bat if possible. I did a Dx6e then Nx8 and now a Nx10 in 1 yr.
Wish I did the nx10 first. Would have saved a ton of money and time.
“Buy Once, Cry Once”
Pick up my new pitts tomorrow. I love the 850mm so when you said this flew better, I immediately phoned the hobby store to put one on hold.
Love your input and videos as always.
Enjoy your summer everyone!
Good tip on the velcro and battery
Yep i need to do THAT! Another reason to watch this channel! Brian finds/does stuff WE haven't thought about yet! 👍
thanks! old idea, but works easy - definitely not my idea, just recycling good ideas ;)
You fortunate to have a good cameraman. Seizers is what i get with others ...lol. thanks, great aircraft!!!
2 Years old!??!? WOW - Amazing - he's gonna be out-flying me by 10 years old!!!!
I really love the videos and I appreciate that you take the extra time out of your day to tell us every little detail and because of you I finally bought my very first 1.5m turbo timber evo but I really wish I had remembered to use your links but don't worry I will be buying another plane soon and I'll make sure I use them. oh and thank you to the camera crew for providing us with some awesome video, can't wait for what's to come
Thanks Andrew ;)
I also have the TT Evo and love it. But I also have the UMX and love it. I have flown it in 15 mile per hour winds. The Pitts would be awesome
"Camera crew" is amazing by the way!
She is the best! I'm so glad she's here with me, and she is so good!!!
just bought my first rc plane, not expensive at all, can't wait to fly it,as soon as it came the weather turned bad😣 your plane is great, awesome flying 😀👍👍
Thanks, and GOOD LUCK!
Maybe the same fix????
ua-cam.com/video/LO7-xHbprBY/v-deo.html
Man, I hope this doesn't happen to me!!!!
Another quick tip is to use a permanent marker and mark the ground (black) side of the JST connectors (battery and plane) to keep from getting these backwards and burning up the ESC/Radio board.
yes! I also wish the smart chargers were not black where the balance lead plugs in, it's HARD to see back on black without a lot of light.
Sounds very exciting!!! Why am I visualizing Peter Pan right now??? ;)
That's exciting. They had a UMX Pitts years ago, but by the time I got around to buying one, it had been discontinued. Another chance.
Glad you got this second chance!
I love the look of the PITTS! I have a very old line flyer version. Of all aircraft, this is my 2nd favorite.

AMEN!!!
Have one haven’t had a chance to fly it yet. Great job of flying & explaining the plane.
Thanks Darrell!
Love these little planes, you can fly them anywhere
Yes, for sure! This one flies GREAT! Ground handling is not as amazing as certain UMX'es but still better average for real small planes. In the air, it flies AMAZING!
Very cool UMX Pitts 🔥 👍
Nice flying Brian 🔥👍
Great job as always Camera Crew 🔥👍✌️
Thanks! Love the plane!
When you're ready - get the 1.4m FMS bprc.me/FMS_Pitts | bprc.me/Pitts + Rx (since it's PNP - make sure it's got or doesn't Reflex before you get your Rx!!!)
This is seriously good advice.
Hi Brian, great video excellent flying. Keep them coming!!
Will do! Thanks!

I hear it's great! I always went for the Timber, but I've heard the Tundra is great too!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I've got both. Love them equally for different reasons.
I've had the 2s Pitts for years and never considered it the least bit underpowered. Never have a thought to getting the bigger Pitts bc it's wingloading is much too high. Have the same size one from HobbyKing ( long out of production) and it's a great flyet.

I know that they have more coming ;)
Just got mine but bought 2S by mistake. Still flew pretty good but limited to just barely a loop. 3S on the way!
About time YOU got 1!😄👍

That's a bummer! I had one with a motor lead that broke off - OH YEAH, it was the A-10...I took it apart and found the problem on the brushless motor, and got it replaced....thought the battery had died, but the motor had. Hate when this happens, but HH sent one out without any issues.
Hey Brian! Can you do a review on the flex innovations RV8?
I would love too, but we don't have a vendor to work with. Do you have a suggestion?
@@BrianPhillipsRC Amain hobbies perhaps?
The 2S sure flies more scale like, IMHO.
YES! But wind is hardly scale for UMX ;) That's one of the reasons I LOVE the 3S power in this plane. On a calm evening, sunset and all, this plane is gonna be like butter on 2S ;)
i few mine yesturday for the first time on 3 s i like the 3 s...........you have a full scale airplane in your garage?

Thanks for the tips
No problem!
I was about to ask you for a pitts umx review yesterday !!
delivered ;)
I don't think that was self imposed vibration while taxing, the tires are super small, and your concrete drive has a pretty regular brush texture. If your drive was truly smooth, which obviously isn't ideal for traction, I doubt it'd shake about like that
Just seemed like the rudder was doing it...I could be 100% wrong.
@@BrianPhillipsRC you had the better vantage point from which to judge, so you're probably right. Have a great Sunday brother, treat yourself and the camera crew to something nice today
Great flight! How would this compare to its 850mm big brother?
The umx pitts is BETTER! The eflite 850mm pitts is good on 3s, unstable on 4s. If YOU want a fun, fit anywhere in anything bird, (& less expensive too!), get this one! 👍
Even on 3s, the 850mm is extremely nose heavy.
I think this one is similar, but slightly better flying...which is strange! I actually can't believe I'm saying it....I love the way this one flies!
I asked because I'm looking for a somewhat factory-assembled slope soaring plane that is on the small side of things, any suggestions. Thank You

Mine is sitting on the counter taunting me as the hurricane winds blow through!
@@BrianPhillipsRC looking forward for your review... for some reason the Rc Sailers reviews just don't seem like a valid source.
But.. I could be wrong ...
Ughhhh!! I am having a hard time choosing either this or the UMX Turbo Timber. Which one do you perceive to be the best?🤔
Umx pitts. More fun, more aerobatic, can go slow on 2s, aerobatic on 3s, & 7 minute flights! (3s/450 ovionic or venom batteries)
BUT, it all depends on how comfortable YOU are. If u like to putt around, with an occasional loop or roll, the timber.
If you don't have the Timber UMX, get that first. It's got a super wide flight envelope, and if you haven't had it, it's a MUST HAVE for every UMX fleet. Then this next ;)
Pitts bit.ly/3pLkVZn
Timber bit.ly/3cEjplB
I think on the new UMX multipurpose brick, it's just already assigned. I was wondering the same thing.
How many minutes do you get with the Spektrum 3S - 300mAh? Thanks for info 🤠
I'm really sorry to say, but I can't tell you. Whatever we got on the video would be the best offer. Sorry
You will NEVER regret the NX8...unless you need 12 channels for some custom built plane next...then you just need to get the IX20 and be done with it ;)

Can I use another type of transmitter/ receiver with that plane?
If it's DSMX / DSM2, then you should be able to bind to it, but there might be additional difficulties.
Brian do you think it can handle a 550 mAh 3s? I have 5 of them and would love to find a nice Plane to use them in. They are high C rated so no worries on puffing them.
IF they fit, & if they don't make the lil pitts really nose heavy, i say try it! 3s 450 venom fits/works! 👍
If you can get it in there, and get CG fine, the loading would be fine, but just not sure, since I don't have that size to try.

What's more fun a timber x umx or the umx Pitts¿ It seems almost as Aerobatic capable as timber ? Your opinion pls sir I'm trying to figure out which one to get
The Timber X UMX is more acrobatically capable, but the Pitts is amazing as well.
Hi Brian, I don’t think I’ve seen you review Freewing jets before but it would be awesome if you could review the new B2 Spirit! It looks awesome!
Sorry, I'd love to work with MotionRC, but they have been unwilling since our inception to work with us, and recently we found out that they're actively trying to hurt us...so no marketing for MotionRC here. I used to think they were a real stand up company, but not anymore.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for the reply! that’s unfortunate for them, your reviews are great!
Hi Mr. Brian, how do you get these lovely planes sent to you to test and review? I would love to do something like this, who would I talk to?
Good luck!

👽 does the UMX timber fly slower then the pits ? thx
It CAN.
OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty exciting!
@@BrianPhillipsRC been waiting for another umx
bipe to come out for a while now. gotta get one!
Got a few batteries.
Thanks Matt!
The build was pretty long too - LOL ;)
Thanks for being here with us!
Can you still bind planes to the dx6i?
You CAN, but might have difficulty doing Forward Programming.
Can I bind my dx5e to the umx planes?
I assume you can, but not 100% sure. I think a DSM2 might work....isn't DX5e DSM2??? Or is it DSMX - if it's "X" then you'll be fine, but not sure if you'll be able to assign the SAFE/AS3X switch for change of state.
Would this be able to land on grass or would it nose over all the time?
You could "plop" it in grass ;)
What is the difference between the nx8 and the nx8 plus
S2200 chargers (i have 2!), Hurt as much as swapping over to ALL smart batteries and chargers, but i had a fire from a dumb charger & lipos that not only almost took my house, but almost took my service dog away. I can do without a lot of things, & a lot of people, but NOT my service dog as he has changed my life forever. Trust me everyone, dumb packs/chargers are NOT EVER worth any life!!!
(Army veteran service dog. Ill happily give my life for his, & never think twice.)
Wow! Glad the SMART tech has helped you feel more comfortable.
P.S. Thank you for your service!
@@BrianPhillipsRC
TBH, after having dumb everything, & noe having everything smart, if u can afford to swap over, DO! My charger got hot the other day. It stopped. (Had the fan obstructed & didn't know it🤷). Well worth the technology! 👍👋👋👋
Brian why does the box say 1S but it flies on 3S? Is that a typo?
From what I could see it looked good, kinda small to track far away
It is very good, and you do have to work to keep her close so you can see her beautiful details!!!
Not so sure about this one...maidened mine yesterday, obnoxiously loud! Bummer
How do I get this plane on the real flight 9.5s?
I don't know how - So sorry!
Look at dat itty bitty plane..... we got Horse Flys that big down here in Texas!
chew tobacco...chew tobacco...chew tobacco spit ..... . cough cough....... !!
LOL!!!
Can you turn of the as3x
Since it's a UMX, not 100% sure if we can factory reset the Rx...which is the only way I know that it could be done.
Batteries, connectors, and adaptors are out of control. The "Smart Batteries" are great but come on Spektrum you should NOT need to buy separate adaptors to fly or charge.
Venom or ovionic 3s/450👍
I tend to agree...but if you get adapters, you can do them both. Gotta admit the Micro PH connectors kinda suck - low contact points, and for this reason, they didn't hold up well, and I have spend a lot of cash on batteries that didn't perform well, so hopefully these will do better ;)
can i buy a turbo timber umx for my 1st rc plane ?
You could, but there might be better choices. Keep in mind the Turbo Timber UMX is a BNF, so you'll need the Transmitter and Batteries and all that - it adds up, NOT that you shouldn't, but it's just a LOT all at once.
Here's my list of "Beginner" planes I generally suggest. We have footage with each...check them out. We want you to succeed! you CAN do it, even if you get the Timber FIRST...I just think there will be some heartache involved along the way.
WAY Better... (links for purchase AND playlists for my videos)

Will this bind to my dx6 and fly ok
Should be able to bind, but since I don't have one I hate to be super definitive. I don't want to give wrong answers, and mislead. The only thing you might have to fight to setup, would be SAFE, but it's not hard on these UMX'es...
@@BrianPhillipsRC I think it's the best plane I've ever had. Stable fast can do all the maneuvers a blast to fly
