"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." Romans 8:1 NKJV
Who else is still listening to this beautiful masterpiece in 2024? After many years this hymn is still able to touch my core and give me chills. Worthy is the Lamb of God always!❤❤🙌🙌
Why is it that hymns such as this one have the power to completely break me? There truly is the power, peace, truth and love of Jesus in this hymn, as well as MANY others. Be blessed by this worshipful music my brothers and sisters.
Because in these old hymns there is biblical teaching and doctrine in it. They aren't like the new aged songs where you can substitute a loved ones name in it and it fits. These songs were made with purpose to give doctrinal reminders to us
This man preaches through his own hymns things which are nowhere in the Bible and what is more he cannot sing in a tuneful and reverent way about God and his dealing with human beings. He is a sloppy theological love bomber and believes in a tortured Saviour perpetually on the Cross rather than living and interceding for us at the right of God. I do not like the way such singers as him infuse older hymns with this constant talk of blood and love and would now rather not hear any modern Christian try to sing them.
My favorite hymn! It encapsulates all the wonder of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was the unofficial hymn of my college. When the student body was able to call out choices for hymns, this was always requested and the congregational singing was an overwhelming experience.
I was attending church at Valdez Bible Baptist, when the pastor said we were going to sing favorites. One young lady Rebekkah A. Declared "And can it be" I never heard it before, but after that day I had a new favorite. Bless your heart Rebekkah.
John Wesley must have been full of the Holy Spirit when he wrote these lyrics. Like so many other composers, the words were inspired by the Spirit of God. Absolutely beautiful!
I 'found' this beautiful hymn just this morning. I've played it over many times during the past few hours. In all my 81 years on this earth, in England and in the U.S.A. I have never before heard it...or its melody. But I can surely identify myself within its words. Thanks for posting; God bless you.
I’ve sung it many times in church when I was in the choir, but on discovering it here I realised it had been years and years since I’d last sung it. Those were the days! Now the church choir doesn’t exist, the services use “modern” music and I no longer attend anyway. Nothing against modern music, there are some very nice songs, but it’s a shame all the glorious hymns like this which were food for the soul have been tossed aside because they’re in a hymn book that’s considered old fashioned. These are the inspirational and timeless songs which I took for granted and thought I’d be singing for ever. Hearing the hymn again was a nostalgic moment, it brought back memories of an era that is well and truly in the past.
Here I am again to listen and sing! So grateful for Jesus leaving His Fathers throne to bleed and die for Adams helpless race... So now we approach That throne boldly to claim what Christ won for us!
Heard this as a child and now I claim the truth from it as a grown up what treasure we have in knowing we have hope in Jesus Christ..thank you Lord please reach the heart of the unbelievers so they too may know your love and peace Prince of Peace

I love all the old ones but also some, if not all, of the new! I suppose hundreds of years ago the same was said!! As long as we all still sing to the power of God.
Using to celebrate God's favour in my life. After going through tough time of mental illness, loss of possession, stress, anxiety and worry and finally coming out of it.
In this song, Charles Wesley takes us from the throne room of God (the ark of the covenant in the holy of holies), to the reason Christ came into this world, to Mr. Wesley's personal experience of the divine when his "chains" fell off and he received salvation, to the articulation of his mission to go forth and live as Christ called him to live, to his passion to do so, and his life beyond this world in eternity, face to face with the God who called him to it all. What an amazing hymn that genuinely reflects an amazing spiritual journey! There is simply no other that compares. Praise God for the countless number of people this hymn has drawn into God's loving arms since it was written!
Listening to this song as I study today... Thank you, God, for the beautiful hymn! My favorite line "My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose went forth and followed thee"

Father thank you for the unmerited grace - giving me what I do not deserve (health, healing, joy peace and prosperity) and nailing to the cross all my sins and debts -- so today there is no condemnation in those who are in Christ Jesus ... amen
