That other shop didn't do a very good job diagnosing the issue. I replaced the pump on my daughter's 06 4cyl Tacoma. The motor stopped running at start-up. The AIS only runs for a short period of time injecting extra air into the exhaust manifold. The 12 volt battery test works fine, the motor either turns or doesn't. For that truck, the valves were probably the only issue. Thanks for the video. 😊
I can't wait to see this truck returned to it's stock configuration. Nice truck once you get rid of the kid stuff. I'm old enough to remember when almost all trucks were 2wd.
2019 limited, and I had a mouse eat through a cable going to rear wheel speed sensor. The next day it started up and ran ok, but the dash looked like a Christmas tree, every light was flashing (including 4wd, I wasn't sure if it was in 2wd or 4wd) and message saying take to dealer. I was scared to try and drive to work or anywhere else, the dash made it look like the main controller had failed or something major, so i took the day off and drove to dealer (also still under warr). 5 hours and $600 (new sensor) later it was fixed. Next time I'm going to store and buying scan tool, I bet I could have fixed that cable going to sensor, if not then ordered a new sensor and replaced it myself. The dash made it look like the end of the world had arrived, it was just a wheel speed sensor, it could have given a little more specific message.
My tundra went into limp mode because of a blown fuse. This fuse was used for about 7-10 different systems (ABS module, AC controls, etc.) First mechanic quoted 3k because he thought it was the ABS module (diagnosed in a couple hours, did not approve repair) Second mechanic took 3 days to diagnose and correctly identified it as the steering wheel angle sensor!
Once you get it running again, you really need to de-ghettoize it. Previous owners clearly spent their money on rims and other garbage instead of maintenance.
I had this AIP issue on my 2012 Tundra when it was brand new - less than 3000 miles. Dealer replaced AIP pumps, but it took 6 weeks to get parts. I understand there is a block off kit you can install if you're not in CA.
Thanks Peter for the detailed analysis on the secondary air injection pump system. A very common issue with the 5.7 iForce. This video will serve as a great reference in educating people about this common issue.
It was on the early years of this platform. They had an extended warranty on these for 10 years and 150,000 miles. The newer Tundras aren’t as problematic.
@@Spillmansgarage Thanks. This is great to hear. Hopefully my 2012 does not constitute as an early years platform. I currently have 110k miles on my double cab limited. Are you familiar with the Hewitt-Tech Bypass kit?

@@5664788 I called them and they told me that if the code is still showing that its likely the pressure sensor over that solenoid/valve. I'm not sure how since if I installed the cover plates correctly then no air or debris would be making contact with that sensor. They have a part at hewitt thats $225 but its essentially the Denso sensor with a pigtail on it. I ordered a new sensor on Amazon that arrives Saturday. Truck is in limp mode - idles okay but has maybe 50-60% power.
You can go to my old neighborhood in Oakland and there will be plenty of people that will want the stereo system, nasty rims(with most likely cheap tires), and those hideous tail light plastic dress up things. Oh and the gas cap too!!
That is part of the emissions system. Toyota will give you a 10 year or 150,000 miles warranty on that system. If it fails go to the dealer and ask them about the warranty on that system. Other wise it’s around $2,000 or more at the dealer to replace. But remember the dealer will charge you whatever they want.
I had the entire secondary air pump system replaced about 6 yrs back. Toyota Motor Corporation reimbursed me 80% of the repair. Total cost 6 yrs ago. 3600.00. Can't imagine what it costs today with inflation. My 2008 5.7 DID NOT go into limp mode when the pump system failed and the check engine light came on. In fact, I was just about to travel out of town in my Tundra on a 2000 mile trip to Colorado. Toyota told me the truck will drive exactly the same, and they were correct. No limp mode. Thank God because it was mainly Interstate driving.

HI, I'm Tong Xiong. I watched ur videos n learned a lots along too. I know you are very busy but I need ur help with two things please. The blower resistor I replaced exactly what you did it didn't work it worked on the HI position , what else did I need to do it right? The second one is I have oil leak on the #5 spark plug when I take it out, please n please reply me, okay.
Hello, the High speed fan position doesn’t go through the resistor. It is a direct connection to the fan. You have an open in that wire ! The resistor only works to cut fan voltage for the slower speeds.
Love to see all the issues and solutions solved, bringing this beauty back to her original life! Keep this project going!

Just clean the valves and flip them over. Save $2,000
Video?
You don't have to replace the valves. Just take them apart and clean them.
If they are corroded, which happens in most of these cases, that is pointless
Since you have to take the intake off it's probably just better to replace especially since you can get decent replacement parts for toyotas
Honestly 2k isn't that much in today's world
