this engineering design with the open-end vertical snorkel that just funnels water and condensation to the pumps is nutty. if you live in humid south prepare for failed pumps and rust as moisture is pumped from fender well into throttle body and sensors. toyota came out with redesigned snorkel but I chose to relocate them into top left engine bay and replaced long snorkel with snub nose to avoid condensation. if you have a failed pump you can take it apart and look at the damage--sometimes you can fix. but don't just fix the pump--look in this channel and clean the throttle body and follow tubes into the valves or they will fail next after the pumps. thanks for this channel for detailed troubleshooting tips on this system. Always first rate on toyota maintenance channel.

Please provide more detail on your fix and the "snub nose"? what did you do to prevent moisture?

@@bobd8553 ok..here we go. I removed the mount with pumps from the fender-well, then found a nice dry spot to mount in top of the engine bay passenger side. Then rerouted the hoses and connectors. My reasoning was at least the pumps can stay dry up there. Then there is no reason to have the snorkel although you could keep it--it is just plastic. I went this route because I tried different mods to the snorkel (while keeping in fenderwell) and still in my own 30 day inspections I'd still find water in the pumps. then it became a mission. Although i am not a fan of non-toyota parts--just not going to spend 300$ when you can buy aftermarket pump for 100$. if you look around rockauto or parts geek you will see replacement pumps that have this snubnose, mushroom looking snorkel (and you need something to keep big debris from coming into the pumps). These aftermarket pumps can be inferior but at least give em a chance by not running in water all the time. I ran the aftermarket pump for a year but didn't clean out the valves (mentioned in this video btw) so had a Valve fail and had to replace. I found this channel and step-by-step details to clean everything in line from the pumps to the intake. Thanks to Toyota Maintenance channel I'm getting a little confident So I got curious about this whole whonky setup and went back and took the toyota pump apart for a post-mortem. I found the reason it had failed was the water had saturated a foam filter in there and caused it to be pulled into the turbines which created a gooey mess inside. Once I cleaned out the pump i was able to use the foam filter from the aftermarket and put the toyota pump back so now i have the aftermarket pump as spare. I'm def not a tech--I'm a software programmer, but i don't have any more secondary air codes when it is damp and moist here in the carolinas! (and repair is good for 2yrs now)

I just don't understand Dealership prices. Recently, I needed a new Remote Key Fob with emergency key for my 2015 Dodge Challender SXT. The Dodge Dealership wanted $100.00 for the key fob and key, and $200.00 to "program" the key fob and cut the key. I did my own research and here are the results: I was able to purchase a brand new unprogrammed key fob (with "coin" battery installed) and uncut key for $20.00 online. A local certified locksmith was able to program and cut my emergency key for $45.00 cash. So, I paid a total of $65.00 for my operational remote key fob. No way was I going to pay $300.00 for the same service. As Peter recommends, shop around. Peter is a VERY HONEST mechanic! I would totally trust him with my 2019 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 SR Work Truck!!!!

I suggest using non insulated crimp connectors, covered with quality heatshrink tubing, it takes no skill vs. Soldering and is less prone to fracture, but either way I suggest the marine grade heatshrink tubing from harbor freight for your electrical kit it is incredible for the quality/cost.

"If you see these wheels, are you surprised? You are not surprised." I laughed, which isn't easy to make me do, Peter.
There are at least 2 well documented occasions where satellites costing hundreds of millions of dollars were lost on launch because someone incorrectly connected 2 simple wires. After the first one crashed, the Americans made sure the wires were of different lengths, or had different connectors, so that couldn't happen again. Another very expensive satellite was destroyed because one contractor was using English measurements, and another was using the metric system. Wrong numbers were thus entered into the satellite computer, and the pieces of the satellite burned up upon reentry into the atmosphere. Another satellite was recently ruined after it fell over during fabrication in the clean room. Murphy's Law strikes a lot.

You can pass California smog with these btw, they literally affect nothing emissions related when your vehicle is warm. The injection air pump is only to speed up heating your catalytic converter on cold start, they are incredibly hard to see visually and it would be hard for a visual inspector to see it.
