it has got to be a treat for costume makers to talk with Adam, asks all the really interesting questions, wants to see the test pieces and iterations, and acknowledges just how much hard work has gone into these costumes.
@@acapier well there are characters who have a suit like that, like DC's rag-man, and it's not like they have trouble with drawing him... and there are plenty of comics with mummies in them, not to mention other costumes that are even more elaborate. I doubt that they ever intended to do it in the original comic or that they really had thought about the difficulty of drawing it. Especially since Moon Knight was originally introduced as an antagonist and kind of a one-off. So if the original artists thought about making him a mummy, scrapping the idea definitely wouldn't have been over how fast they wanted to draw him.
We actually had 2 mummy inspired costumes for Moon Knight in comics prior to the Marvel Studios show: Earth X , and (to a lesser extent) the bone armor from the Warren Ellis/Declan Shalvey 2014 run.
I knew nothing about moonknight before the series and after watching it he is one of my favorite characters and part of the reason for that is this amazing suit. Everyone involved hit the nail on the head

In the comics, Moon Knight (Marc Spector) got his insanity from the guilt of killing innocent people and children in the past for money. Causing him to want to seek redemption from his past as a Superhero, after being brought back to life by Khonshu. He was never abused by his parents as a kid, except in the reverse. Marc use to beat his dad for being an embarrassment to him as a teenager and his mother died when he was young. Also Marc killed his brother "Randall" with a grenade during his mercenary career for betraying the CIA and killing Marc's girlfriend. Marc's brother would later come back (he survived the grenade) and becomes a serial killer and kills every nurse in town as a "thank you" present for saving his life. Basically, Moon Knight's a very morally screwed character in the source material that wants to be forgiven for his past.

Charlie Huston actually went out of his way to read every single Moon Knight comic in existence and get Doug Moench to edit his script, before publishing his 2006 Moon Knight series. What you need to know is Khonshu (The undead Bushman) is not real. The real Khonshu abandoned Marc back in the West Coast Avengers comics and never came back. This fake Khonshu is an hallucination caused from Marc staying in a room by himself for months after getting crippled by the real Bushman. This "Undead Bushman" fake Khonshu is also suppose to be symbolic of Marc Spector slowly becoming his old mercenary self after killing the real Bushman.... he's becoming Bushman. Eventually Marc Spector backs down and goes back on his path of redemption, after revisiting his closet full of pictures of all the innocent people he killed for money in his past..... and crying.
Every piece has a reason and no piece is lesser than the others. You can tell by the detail that this was made with pride, love and care. The man's wearing a work of art. Respect to the costume designers, amazing.
This is much the same way as I made a Mummy costume one Halloween, although mine was far less elaborate and awesome. I basically tacked bandages onto a balaclava, long-sleeved shirt and leggings. Gave the illusion of a wrap, but made it a whole lot easier to dress. Also had a lot of fun distressing it.. or ickyfying it. Luckily mine only had to last 1 night, not an entire production :)
@@DaveJonesActor The mk2 version worked a little better. I added pockets, and an easier way to.. unload beer. Bandages had a bit of give on them to hide the foundation, but I didn't have to be as energetic as the stunt people in this outfit. I might make it again, but want to find a mold texture that has that fluffy look.
Blown away the first time I saw this costume in the series. It's absolutely gorgeous. My fav superhero costume ever. Incredible work by the team that created it.

Adam going around specialist shops as an aprentice seems like such an awesome show idea. Like he's kinda done with Weta. But I understand him not wanting to travel all year round.
I think he's going to need more than a week at FBFX though. FBFX is in England and the first job English apprentices traditionally get is making the tea. I think it's going to take at least week for a lad from California to learn to make a proper British cuppa - *then* they might let him try summat else. 😄

I made a tutorial on a very easy, low-budget Moon Knight mask and this video would have been so helpful in making that mask! This is such an amazing inside look at the suit and is why Tested will always be my favorite UA-cam channel.
That suit is just.... It's what that flash costume was in the early 90's. It sets a new bar. If you ever see a stuntman or actor in there in motion it looks even cooler. It doesn't need any camera tricks or special lighting to look amazing. Just sitting there in the department it has such a presence.
Such an amzing costume, the detail is STUNNING! More videos like this please, hearing about the techniques and behind the scenes and seeing the costume up close is just so good!

If you read the old comics, the Moon Knight show was a complete joke and a waste of time. (Think Daredevil in She-Hulk bad, for comparison sake. With Daredevil at least non-comic readers got a taste of the true Daredevil with the Netflix series).
Such incredible work. Any time I see something like this my mind goes back to the 2000 X-Men movie costumes because it was the era of "comic book heroes wear silly spandex, they have to look COOL and HIP for the film" and now we're at the point where technology has helped to elevate the craft to a level where you really can accurately echo those comic book appearances in a realistic way that doesn't have to look like that old "fake cool" aesthetic.
I used to do work around the corner from there for another media company.... I had no idea i was so near these amazing geniuses. The layering effect they did there, the individual strips all sown to form a sleeve or neck or anything... Thats beyond a special talent. Utterly amazing

It's pretty crazy the amount of work they put into the costume. Must've been awesome for the stuntmen to see such an intricate costume that's not all constricted and a pain.
All I'll say is there's a reason this suit actually felt tangible and looked incredible in comparison to most modern MCU CGI costumes. This is where the DCEU usually excels, so Marvel has absolutely nailed it here.

As a pattern drafter and sewist, 1013 pattern pieces gives my hands, wrists and back phantom pains at the idea of cutting all those pieces out. Not to mention multiple times because of stunt actors and needing different versions of the costume. It's actually insane. So much respect for the costuming department.
This video could be two hours and I'd still want more. This is one of the most beautiful Superhero costumes EVER. MY GOSH. Just all the different techniques ALONE!

I’m just forever grateful that so much love was put into not just the costume but the entire show as Moon Knight is my favorite and I never in a million years expected there to ever be a solo Moon Knight series or film. It makes my inner nerd heart swell with pride and joy.

Absolutely love walking around this place. It's a hive of absoloute awesomeness... its not every day you walk around the corner and see a shelf full of prototype and finished Superman's chest logos... and walking into reception and seeing that like 8 foot tall robot... its amazing.
I can only think of one word to describe all this work: LOVE. Love for the character, for the storytelling, for the mystery, for the built narrative, literally INGRAINED into the suit
I was so excited for this series. Moon Knight was one of my favorites, growing up, but they spent too much time focusing on the split personalities. They didn't make that such a huge part of the comics. I love how the series started. One of my favorite beginnings I've ever seen, but they didn't really switch gears after that.
The amount of extreme detail in this that no one will ever see is definitely the telltale sign of this being a labor of love. Designed and built by people who really are fans of Marvel, comic books and/or superheroes in general. I wonder if we will see Moonknight again, whether that be in a season two or in an appearance in some future MCU movie...
I was already impressed with the Moon Knight costumes but seeing this indepth look takes it to a whole other level. These are my favorite kind of Tested videos by far. Awesome work!
I worked at a toy company mostly on the mechanical end of the project. I ended up working on plush toys, animating eyes, ears, and so on. One day, I was introduced to a fabric engineer and thought to myself, "Oh ya, a seamstress ". Boy, was I wrong. We had several of them, and they were all fabulous! Battery life is important for any toy, and if the fabric hinders motion, it can eat up the battery in no time.
This is a fantastic video! Such an amazing group of designers and craftspeople and one of my favorite costumes! Thank you Adam for asking all of the questions I would have asked!
Wow! I loved Moon Knight. Easily one of my top Marvel productions so far. What an amazing costume! This video is also a cosplayers dream. Seeing all that detail up close!!!
The look of the character and this suit in particular were the high point of the series. I can't imagine a cosplayer making anything quite this complex.

Look, it's the ceremonial armor from Khonshu's temple, not the psycho Colonel Sanders. (I love that line and how absolutely done with everything Marc sounds when he says it.)
My favorite scene. The other day I went to KFC and they had a cardboard Colonel Sanders. I laughed and mumbled 'psycho Colonel Sanders'. The employees didn't get it but the guy behind me in line chuckled said laters gators when I left.
The way Adam looks very impressed and interested throughout the video just shows how nice he is. And I'm also impressed by how cool that Moon Knight suit in real life is🤯
This costume is giving me flashbacks to my Polaris wrapped crisscross strap boots. Metallic spandex glued over oddly shaped strips of eva foam? So worth. I think I used a similar labeling system to keep the pieces straight too. Made me feel like my costumes aren't actually over engineered! BUT stretch zippers WHEN were these invented?! Take all my money!
By far the best looking suit in the MCU! Hope with the slowing of the pace for the next phase we get more time to appreciate costumes that are designed.

Moon Night's production levels were excellent throughout - unfortunately the scripts didn't receive the same attention.
This suit instantly became my favorite Moon Knight design to date. How we never got a mummy-inspired MK suit before is beyond me, but I love it.
No kidding. Egypt + mummy seems like a total no brainer. Glad it finally happened though because its amazing.
Especially since his origin story pretty much includes him dying and being resurrected... being a mummy makes a ton of sense

I wonder if we will see Moonknight again, whether that be in a season two or in an appearance in some future MCU movie...
I was already impressed with the Moon Knight costumes but seeing this indepth look takes it to a whole other level. These are my favorite kind of Tested videos by far. Awesome work!

I worked at a toy company mostly on the mechanical end of the project. I ended up working on plush toys, animating eyes, ears, and so on. One day, I was introduced to a fabric engineer and thought to myself, "Oh ya, a seamstress ". Boy, was I wrong. We had several of them, and they were all fabulous! Battery life is important for any toy, and if the fabric hinders motion, it can eat up the battery in no time.
This is a fantastic video! Such an amazing group of designers and craftspeople and one of my favorite costumes! Thank you Adam for asking all of the questions I would have asked!
They knocked it out of the park with this design. I love how they integrated the mummified wrapping……..phenomenal❤

My mom is a seamstress and a quilt maker, yarn knitting genius - so when I see this level of detail it blows my mind!

All the work that went into it is truly amazing. It's so amazing on screen and off. They should be very proud of these suits. I'd like to see Mr. Knight too cause there is a lot of stitching I can see in the show. Thank you, Adam and the costume creators for sharing this. I'm so excited and happy. I've gotta go work on my suit now.
The amount of detail put into this costume (and many other costumes) by the artists is incredible! They really love their job because they know that most of those details will go unnoticed on the show. Great great job! And thanks for showing us this.

Look, it's the ceremonial armor from Khonshu's temple, not the psycho Colonel Sanders. (I love that line and how absolutely done with everything Marc sounds when he says it.)
My favorite scene. The other day I went to KFC and they had a cardboard Colonel Sanders. I laughed and mumbled 'psycho Colonel Sanders'. The employees didn't get it but the guy behind me in line chuckled said laters gators when I left.
I love Moon Knight and the detail in this suit is gorgeous, Moon knight is my favorite marvel character and I'm so glad they've done him justice

This costume is giving me flashbacks to my Polaris wrapped crisscross strap boots. Metallic spandex glued over oddly shaped strips of eva foam? So worth. I think I used a similar labeling system to keep the pieces straight too. Made me feel like my costumes aren't actually over engineered! BUT stretch zippers WHEN were these invented?! Take all my money!
