With the Pimax Crystal, there is an effect where in racing/flight simulators, haptic motors / bass shaker vibrations are transmitted to the headset, causing the image to shake. Even certain audio frequencies in the DMAS create an unstable image. A (adjustable) low-pass filter in the tracking software could eliminate this problem. Is this planned/implemented in the Crystal Super?
@@PubertGoesSimracing I had the same issue with inside out tracking and my bass shaker. Lighthouse tracking solved this, it's the only way. So we need that at release.
Given how even 4090 GPUs struggle to maintain a steady 45fps+ for 1/2 motion smoothing at 90Hz in MSFS 2024, could Pimax introduce 1/3 framerate motion smoothing in Pimax Play please?
I am glad I am hearing more improvements on inside out tracking, hopefully controller stability and tracking will be smoother for fps shooters and precise accuracy
Is there something users can do in there play space that would help the algorithm along... i.e some black and white marks around the edge of the monitors?
But for motion platforms inside out tracking is not good, regardless of algorithm used. We need outside-in / lighthouse tracking to have a fixed reference in the room that we then can motion compensate for. When i the lighthouse faceplate being launched for the super?
I know alle the options for motion compensation. Used witmotion sensor, correction via be controllers and now I use the OpenXR MC in SimHub that uses the FlyPT methods of geometric compensation. The problem with all these are not the motion compensation in itself, but the reference frame the headset is using. With lighthouses you only have one reference, the lighthouses themselves. This creates a stable reference, and good motion compensation and tracking on a moving platform. With inside-out tracking the headset can a) lock on/track the room features that are standing still (walls, furniture etc) or b) track/lock on to the motion platform cockpit (monitors, perhaps also such as wheels, MFDs etc etc). One of these needs motion comp, the other does not. So the problem happens when an inside out kit jumps between referance frames (for example looses tracking of the room, and starts tracking the cockpit.) Firstly the referance frame has changed, producing a jump in position, but also now the VR headset is tracking a moving platform, and with motion comp on, it will actually produce the opposite compensation from normal. I.e. motion compensating something that should not have motion comp. This will always be a problem for people for motion platforms where the inside out tracking can jump from tracking the room to tracking the cockpit and vica versa. The only solution to this is a tracking system that can ONLY have one reference frame, and today that is Lighthouse tracking.
My past relationships look better than my experiences with Pimax.. a wicked, horrible company. If failed promises, lies, and being treated poorly are your thing--this is the product for you!
I already preordered. A little nervous you have not given it to any VR influencers for early reviews. Also concerned u will not be shipping on time once again after i already paid a premium
Rather than make videos and new products why not spend some effort delivering the stuff people have already ordered ... still waiting for my Crystal Light ... 8 weeks now and still nothing ... I'll die of old age b4 the thing gets here
Pimax for god sake WHY can't you put someone in your videos who can actually speak English?? This is absolutely ridiculous. How do you expect your costumers take you seriously the way like this?
exactly, buying a product of this price, I would never risk my money with a company without a AAA+ customer service experience and from the reviews and people telling their stories, the company is a nightmare. And I emailed them about this and of course no reply. If you cant get a pre-sale answers from the company how in the world would you expect them to respond to you once they already have your money.
I totally agree, I did manage to return mine, but it was a nightmare experience, even before I received my headset there comms were so bad, stress stress, the problem for pimax is there rep goes before them, it will take some serious intervention to turn this around, and time.
Best move from pimax was to start developing their own camera-based tracking system, even if takes time. Its the future, nobody wants to buy lighthouse tracked headsets anymore. It has always been a huge barrier of entry.
@@Nobody-Nowhere For example, I bought Pimax Crystal Light only because it supports Lighthouse. But PCL doesn't do it well, so it's gathering dust, waiting for the tracking problems described in the Pimax technical support ticket to be resolved, while I use Valve Index.
There's a substantial portion of the PCVR userbase who will _only_ buy lighthouse tracked headsets. This is a sharply contested topic. Pimax has been making a good choice by catering to both camps.
Lighthouse tracking with base stations is used by those who need accuracy (for example, when playing BeatSaber on Expert+ difficulty), or full body tracking. Calling such tracking marginal is disrespectful to such people. And all of them are potentially your target audience and your customers. Inside-out tracking is certainly cool and useful, but calling lighthouse marginal is spitting in the face of potential buyers. Never do that.
lighthouse has already become 'boutique' hardware. Its not really something that's going to be relevant outside of extremely niche circles. Even more niche than pimax, that's saying something

Agree. Lighthouse tracking is superior to inside out of Pimax, the tracking on my original Crystal of the headset itself is very unnatural and feels laggy compared to lighthouse tracking (it even jitters and drifts slightly). So the lighthouse faceplate is absolutely mandatory for the Super! We need to have it available at launch. So please Pimax focus on getting this available ASAP! Thank you!
@SleepySleepy500 only the pimax light poses a problem with dynamic actuators no problem with tracking compatibility with a quest 2, quest 3, Samsung odyssey+, and NO problem with the crystal normal battery version only the crystal light where it is unplayable with actuators and shaker, the pimax light tracking takes the vibrations of the shaker and actuators and retransmits them to the screen I opened a ticket I will see but I repeat in no case the integrated tracking poses a problem on all other models of VR headset and crystal battery included if the pimax super is based on the crystal battery in terms of tracking I am confident but if it is based on sure light there on the other hand I have a little fears indeed , unless the pimax team has a solution
I’m talking about motion compensation, not vibrations. I have the OG Crystal (and the 5k and 8k) and need LH tracking. Not due to any vibration issues with the inside out tracking, but due to motion compensation needs, as inside out tracking inherently will be unstable in a scenario with a moving platform with a cockpit the tracking can lock on to.

I believe making shorter video's, like this one, explaining in-depth topic descriptions, is easier to comprehend. Good work Calvin. 👍
Does the original crystal also get these software improvements?
how about binocular overlap?

These videos are cool, but I need to see reactions from VR youtubers so I can tell if it is enough of an upgrade over my PCL to justify the cost.
