I love you watching two! I'm an old (72!) Southern American woman living in the mountains of North Carolina who loves James Taylor. James Taylor wasn't born in NC, but he grew up here. He's a great singer & songwriter; his first hit, "Fire and Rain," was in 1970; in 1971, "You've Got a Friend," with Carol King made it to No. 1 song in the country. Carol King's 1st album was "Tapestry." Her songs, "So Far Away," and "It's Too Late," are both on "Tapestry." I think you'd really enjoy hearing more from them.
Not sure if you guys knew, but Mark celebrated his 75th birthday earlier this week 🥰 glad to see you react to another one of his gems. I heard this song during the first MK concert I attended in 2010, fell in love with it ever since. It's been a staple in his live shows for the past 20 years, and like with many other songs, it's even better when performed live 🙂 wish you all the best, and many more MK/DS songs 😊
Big thanks, fantastic choice and crazy combination that I didn't know. It is an ideal song for James Taylor, adding an unique vocal color. The original was already brilliant. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
Hi, loving your channel as always. Love every song from this album. My favorite is Junkie Doll. It's probably in the top 5 of my fave MK/DS songs. But then again there's no song that I don't love from Mark. Cheers, all the best from Australia. 👍🎸🎸🎸
Love this reaction! I’m not sure that I’ve heard this song before? Being in my mid 60’s, of course I’ve heard of Mark and James😁 Give a listen to James Taylor doing “Sweet Baby James”. Nice tune!!
Thank you for your lovely reaction. Such an incredible storytelling song about the two surveyors, Mason and Dixon. Mark said James has a dreamy kind of quality to his voice that he thought would work well singing the part of Mason, who was an astronomer. The instrumentals and Mark's guitar tone really take you away.
Richard Bennett's wonderful light touch on the rhythm guitar shouldn't be overlooked either. He's someone you don't always notice on Mark's songs but you'd definitely miss if he wasn't there. I don't think I've ever seen a guitarist who caresses the strings the way he does. He barely seems to touch them.
@@jjc5407 Absolutely - Richard Bennett is an amazing guitarist. Mark has always worked with the best musicians. It is great that most of the band members have continued working together for so long.
Someone might want to remind her that James Taylor also played and sang on this song. Sweet Baby James is not just some back-up studio musician, she didn't mention him at all except for the title. Wow!
Hello Friends of Alba in Romania:why don't you listen to Done With Bonaparte (from the Live Roadrunning With MK and Emylou Harris)? It's a pure gift of joy!
It's beautiful to see how they react and how they discover Mark's music. At least for me, they make me feel the surprise I used to feel when a new album came out. Thank you very much! Unfortunately, I think he is one of the most underrated artists, who knows why, because it is evident that a unique talent emanates from every pore. Thanks, friends!
This is a great album from Mark with great storytelling throughout, one I love in particular is " Prairie Wedding," which tells the story of the loss of eligible men on the east coast ( New York and so on ) to the Californian gold rush ,and as a consequence the men in the gold fields found of course no woman so the invention of the "mail order bride " . Great, song.
My favorite song from this album, maybe my favorite Knopfler song. Such a smooth groove and James's voice fits so well. Mark's guitar shines. Plus, the story of Mason and Dixon is quite a story. ☮💙🎶
If you love Mark, I think you'll love his brother David Knopfler. He's a very talented singer, songwriter, guitar player and piano player. Beautiful vocals and gorgeous lyrics. Look for Lonely Is The Night and If God Could Make Angels.
Ahhh Andre... Don't worry about not discovering Dire Straits and Mark earlier in your life. I think sometimes that things happen at a time just when we need them, and when we can appreciate them more fully. And your and Dominika's reactions warm my heart. I'm definitely glad that I have discovered you. 😊
A great group to check out is DR HOOK and The Medicine Show "Cover of the Rolling Stone", "Sexy Eyes", "Sylvia's Mother", "When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman" "Sharing the Night Together". Dennis Locorriere is the singer with the long beard mustache, George Cummings is the lead guitarist with the bass voice (also founded and came up with the name of the group), Ray Sawyer is the singer with the eye patch. They're all Incredible! Ray suffered an eye injury after he was involved in a car accident. He sadly, passed away in 2018 (82). RIP Ray.
Such a great song and an absolutely fantastic album. Other notable tracks off this album include "Speedway at Nazareth"; "What it Is", "Junkie Doll" and "Who's Your Baby Now". Master musicianship and lyrics on all of them. I was lucky enough to see Mark's last US tour a few years ago. An utterly breathtaking experience.
I love both JT and Knopfler and I've never heard that song before! The only way it could have been any better is if I had a cute Puppy Dog (like maybe a Beagle) to pet while listening to this great song ...Cough...(Hint) lol
Maybe they'll react to Mark Knopfler's "Why Aye Man" which was the theme tune for later series of "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet", a comedy drama about Geordie construction workers who go to Germany seeking work during a time of high unemployment under Margaret Thatcher's government. It's great and has some of the cast singing backing vocals.
I’ve been captured by the raw and stark beauty of “your part of the world” that I’ve seen in the TV series, Vera. I’m of Scottish ancestry and it calls yo me. The cold and damp would take a bit of getting used to. 😁 Greetings from the Mojave Desert USA
How is it that he writes such insightful songs about America? The Mason-Dixon line became the boundary between the free states of the North and the slave states of the South during the Civil War. Great reaction as usual.
Actually the Mason Dixon line was drawn to settle a dispute between William Penn and Lord Calvert over the boundary of their land grants from the English King. The slavery issue came later.
I expect Mark was reading a book about it. Quite a few of his songs are inspired by what he's read. His ability to condense them down into a handful of verses is simply astonishing.
I think you should go down the Rabbit hole of Paul Carrack ( lead singer with the original Mike & the Mechanics). His Greatest hits album out soon. Please start with 'Eyes of Blue' This guy is so underrated and works hard touring etc.
Mark does have a very smooth and lovely singing voice, but his guitar playing was what made he a fan of Dire Straits. Here is a little history I think you might like. ua-cam.com/video/HaQS45-YFdE/v-deo.htmlsi=VbKDRPEXN7PeLoz_
One of Knopfler's very very best..timeless ❤
I'm not sure it is even possible to find a song that is packed with more pure sonic beauty and bliss than this collaboration with Mark and James!
I have listened to that album milions of times back in the day! Fantastic! ❤ Much love from Germany you two sweethearts!

Mark's song writing abilities never cease to amaze!
Amazing storyteller, songwriter and guitarist. Hugely talented and doesn’t get the recognition he deserves
Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists in the world, so happy you play so many songs.

Thank you 😊 Yes, we did hear about Mark's bday. Many happy returns to him 🎈
Both of these English boys died fairly young, Mason 58 and Dixon 45, they really did make their mark upon this earth ❤
Thanks for this song....is so magnific and beauty,,,,,,,,,

This is the original, from the album of the same name. Perhaps you've seen a live performance with just Mark before?

Wow❤ I hadn't heard this song and I love it! What a duo!!!
Amazing, right? 💚
Two favorites in one song. That's hard to beat. 🙂

That was fantastic! James's acoustic was otherworldly.
That was Richard Bennett not James Taylor. He has such an amazingly light touch on the strings.
Silvertown blues on that album is pure briallance

Mark makes his guitar sing, and doesn't always need vocals.
I think you were trying to convey the phrase, “smooth as butter”. That’s what Mark is!

This song is so emotional for me, but I just don't know why.
A 'Geordie' is a native of Newcastle in the North-East of England. The River Tyne, Durham, Northumberland. My part of the world.
