Sunny Day - Free Vibes / sunny-day
I have an Apple Watch and kind of figured it wasn’t perfectly accurate. But like you said, I like comparing workouts day to day using the values. I just keep in mind that the numbers themselves are less important than the trends.
Exactly! Keep up the good work.
I just got a fitbit charge 5 and i’m trying to use it in a reasonable way for the long term. I’m a newbie to almost everything but the calories burned is really confusing. I want to track my food because i am working with a nutritionist to see whats causing my flare ups I just want to use it to enforce habits and also compare pace and other improvements. Thanks for info. Very organized, easy to understand.
Glad you liked the video!
Thanks man!
You’re welcome!
I get there were errors, but were they overcounting calories or undercounting?
I’m thinking these studies need to be done again with apple watch 8 and ultra, and with daily weight / fat % data being imported into apple health because that influences what it will estimate.
I’d like to see some updated studies!
My fit bit versa 4 says I’m burning 4K calories a day which I knew was wrong. Im eating about 2500 calories a day. I seriously doubt I’m burning 1500 calories a day.
Soooo you never said.... which one was the better one out of all of them?
Hi Beth! The video isn’t necessarily a review of the products or to point out which one is better. It’s to show that they’re all inaccurate to a degree. What’s important is that you’re aware of this. Whichever one you use, be consistent with it over time.
It never will be accurate, a smart watch will never know how much fat and muscle mass you have and what your exact basal metabolism is. So you would think two people with the same weight, height, age and gender would burn the same amount calories, but one of them has a high muscle % and the other a high fat %. But the Apple Watch will probably give them around the same burned calories, but the person with low muscle/high fat % will burn less than the person with a high muscle/low fat %, cause muscle burns more than fat. So it will never be accurate for probably anyone.
I agree with what you said!
I explain in the video that the relative accuracy is what’s important though. Regardless of your body fat %, if you burn 500 calories according to your Apple Watch and the next day it says you burned 500 calories again, it would be same to assume both of those workouts were relatively equal in intensity.
The wrist tracker shouldn’t be an end all be all, but it can be a useful tool among many others!
