I grew up making tomato, mayo, salt and pepper sandwiches on the porch with my Papaw. Nothing compares to the fresh, just picked tomato. Now I need one yummy
In the 60's when I was a child many people ate thinly sliced raw onion and tomato sandwiches. Delicious. 😊 My husband still enjoys this sandwich. Far tastier than just an onion sandwich. Butter or mayonnaise and salt and pepper are a must.😊
I love tomato & mayo sandwiches, will often add whatever veg I might have on hand, especially cucumber. My dad, who grew up during the depression, loved cheese and mayo sandwiches, I enjoy them as well. But I have to agree with you on the PB & Mayo and pickle, yuck. When he was a child, my dad often had to take lobster sandwiches to school for lunch, lobster was known as the poor man's chicken back then, quite a difference today. And cinnamon sugar toast was always a fav.
My mom was from the south and she always ate peanut butter, mayo, and banana sandwiches. I myself often have a “salad” sandwich. I use bell pepper, tomato, lettuce, red onion, avocado if I have it, hummus if I have it, sometimes with mustard and or mayo. PS: I tried your hotdog stew, using beans instead of hotdog and gave it an 8. Trying those different sandwiches was a cute idea. ❤ those can certainly be used for meals when you really have very little in your cupboard.
You made me LOL at that emphatic NO to the pickle/peanut butter sandwich! My mom was born in the 30's and they ate butter/sugar sandwiches. My youngest son's fav is toast with butter, sugar & cinnamon. This was fun, thanks for sharing!!
Maybe toast the bread for the onion sandwich? I bet that would be good! I really love your channel! Thanks for taking one for the team on this one! Haha❤
If you cook the onion.. throw in some bell pepper. Toast some bread. Use mayo or butter on your bread and top your bread with the onion and pepper mix.
Lol!!! Love that you did this😂 video, my Dad used to eat pb, mayo, and hot sauce sandwiches. I would almost puke when he made these. My grandfather ate tomato and mayo sammies. We have fantastic tomatoes here in late spring and summer! I could eat those😊 thx again!!
Toast pb n jelly n pickle sandwish was my favorite sandwich growing up in the 70s n 80s Alot of these sandwich es I grew up with n other ones like cheese n mayo, just toast lettuce mayo n mayo cucumber oh n yes the onions are raw with mayo or butter. Have a nice day.
As a kid, I would sometimes just eat mayo and mustard sandwiches. I've also had pb/banana/bacon sandwiches. Not bad, but I like just pb/banana sandwiches best. My mom is from NC, and she likes tomato and pickle (or fresh cucumber) sandwiches, or she would make an onion gravy and pour it over toast. Great video!
I love peanut butter and honey! It's just got an extra special flavor. Better than jelly in my opinion. I've never had just a cheese and mayo sandwich. Sounds good. ❤️
When i was like 4 or 5 yrs old and we were really struggling my mom would fix me a toast with just a dab pf butter melted and sprinkle sugar all over it thinky put it back in the warm oven for a little bit so the sugar wouldn't be crunchy. That way i had something sweet and thought it was a special treat. She would make up different things alot because after my dad passed away we really had a hard time. These brought back memories but i never ate peanut butter and mayo or pickles lol . I still love tomato sandwiches 😊
@frugallydelicious thank you for bringing that memory back to me I miss those long ago memories when it was just the two of us even though now I know she had a hard time then she never seemed worried she always made me feel safe and I never remember being hungry or wanting for anything she always thought up something to make me think we had it all. I guess we did have it all because we had other and love i still miss her daily . Even though I'm 60 yrs old they are still days I wake up wanting the comfort of my momma especially days I'm having a really bad health day that is more than not . Sorry I ramble thank you for making your videos hope you have a wonderful blessed day 💛
It's never rambling! You listened and watched me "ramble" in this video. I can at least hear you "talk" too! 🥰 I'm glad that I could bring back good thoughts. I hope that you have a blessed day, week and year! See ya in the next video!! 😀
Ive never tried just tomato (salt and pepper) and mayo in a sandwich. Might have to try that. I LOVE cheese and tomato sandwich with salt and pepper. Yum. Have u ever tried cheese and gurkin? Or tuna and onion? I love trying diff combos. 🙂
Wow! I've never tried or heard of these! On the tuna and onion sandwich, are the onions cooked? And would yo add mayo to the tuna or just eat it plain?
@frugallydelicious I've only tried it with plain tuna and red onion. You could def add mayo tho. That's a gr8 idea. I might have to try that too. I noticed many different ideas from ur viewers' responses...you could do a whole sandwich series if u wanted to. Haha.
My dad would eat a Bologna sandwich with mayo on one side and peanut butter on the other. I know it sounds fake but I'm assuming it might be something he picked up from a relative who lived through the depression based on the PB and mayo here.
Someone else posted a similar sandwich they eat but they add lettuce! Lol. ❤️ I grew up on bologna and mayo or mustard sandwiches. Sometimes I would fry the bologna first. Do you know if your dad fried the bologna or just ate it as a cold-cut on the sandwich?
My hubby eats bologna and peanut butter sandwiches sometimes with a slice of American cheese. I can't do it, but it was one of his family's "fend for yourself" meals as a kid.😊
When my mom was a child for a treat, they would wet a slice of white bread with water and then sprinkle it with sugar. Fairy bread in the UK is white bread butter and sprinkles, the kind you put on cakes. The colorful ones or chocolate sprinkles. I like to take a gluten free tortilla, spread it with a bit of butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, pop in the microwave for 2 minutes. And cut in wedges before it cools too much. A crisp and tasty treat. Be generous with the cinnamon and sugar.
Use the sweet yum yum style pickle in chips, not savoury ones. And smooth pb to contrast the pickle crunch. I have tried it with savoury pickles and it is gross I know!
I grew up eating peanut butter, mayo, and iceberg lettuce. It's good! I don't know why the iceberg between the pb and mayo makes such a difference, but it does. :)
I actually like the peanutbutter and mayo😂. I tried it years ago cause i saw someone make it. Though I like with onion better. The tomatoe and mayo always reminds me of Harriet the spy. That is the only thing I remember from that movie. Peanutbutter and tomato sandwiches are good, too. I haven't had one of those in years.
My great grandmother used to eat peanut butter & onion sandwiches. I'm guessing that was another depression era sandwich, but I can't imagine trying that now. 🤢
Your 1st sammie was/is one of my favs - PB & Mayo Sammie. I eat it at least twice week as a snack. However, are you a Miracle Whip person or a Hellman's/Duke's person. I often had this debate with my mom. She was Miracle Whip whereas I'm Hellman's. MW has a tang to it from vinegar that real mayo doesn't have so that could make a difference. I challenge you to try it. Then rate it. You maybe like my mom & prefer MW with that tangy zip. As for the Tomato & Mayo sammie... you forgot to toast the bread!! I just ate one for my lunch today.
Yes, always toast the bread when making a tomato sandwich. I grew up on MW - mayo was a no, no with my mom. My taste buds have changed and I go for mayo now. Weird. However I do like them both. Blessings 😊
Loving this video! Thank you for trying these out! Here lately I’ve seen caramelized onion sandwiches kind of “trending”. people will slice the onions in whole rounds and sauté them in until caramelized and put on toasted bread. This video is giving me the courage to try it. Like many others, have commented I grew up eating tomato and mayo sandwiches or just tomatoes sandwiches. A nice homegrown or heirloom tomato with just a little bit of salt on some toasted bread is delicious! A timeless classic 😊
That sounds delicious! Caramelized onions on toast! Simple yet sounds amazing! You should totally try it! And let me know when you do and how it was! 😉
For toast, we would use a powdered sugar-cinnamon mixture. We used margarine, as it was less expensive. We ate this at home. Don’t apply the powdered sugar too thickly. For untoasted bread, we would just use sugar. This version was most likely served with hot chocolate, or children’s tea (hot water with evaporated milk). We had this when visiting my grandmother.
My Mom had those same Corelle Dishes. The English still eat cucumber & onion sandwiches and Also bake bean sandwiches. I live in the Mid South. My son has become hooked on a grilled cheese and baked bean sandwich. NOT for me. I love making a fried egg sandwich on the bread heals. Can't do peanut butter and pickle. 😱🤮🤮🤢
I've never heard of an onion and cucumber sandwich. Sounds interesting! Strangly, I'm interested in that grilled cheese and baked beans sandwich...I might need to make another video with all of these very interesting sandwich ideas everyone is posting! Thanks for the comment!
I grew up making tomato, mayo, salt and pepper sandwiches on the porch with my Papaw. Nothing compares to the fresh, just picked tomato. Now I need one yummy
Me, too, with my father's home grown Beefsteak tomatoes! Or just cubes on a plate with a dollop of Kraft salad dressing 😊
In the 60's when I was a child many people ate thinly sliced raw onion and tomato sandwiches.
Delicious. 😊
My husband still enjoys this sandwich.
Far tastier than just an onion sandwich.
Butter or mayonnaise and salt and pepper are a must.😊
When we were kids in the 70s, m
y sister and brother ate sugar-butter sandwiches on untoasted bread. They loved it.

Nothing is better than a tomato sandwich. Little mayo and salt and pepper, especially during the summer when they are fresh from the garden. Yummy.
I couldn't agree more! It's the perfect summer meal.
Frien onion and fried bologna sandwiches. Yum
Try pimento cheese and tomato sandwiches. Green onion or lettuce optional. Best with an over ripe drippy summer tomato.
Maybe toast the bread for the onion sandwich? I bet that would be good! I really love your channel! Thanks for taking one for the team on this one! Haha❤
That’s a great idea! I bet that would help!
I’m from Canada and grew up eating tomato & mayo, cucumber and mayo, peanut butter & lettuce, onion & mayo sandwiches. My brother absolutely adored peanut butter & mustard sandwiches.
My brother would make raw onion and mustard sandwiches and make me and my sister eat one. 😢😊
I love pb (or almond butter) and pickle!
If you cook the onion.. throw in some bell pepper. Toast some bread. Use mayo or butter on your bread and top your bread with the onion and pepper mix.
Thanks

I have always loved PB and mayo sandwiches. I still eat them! Or just mayo. Dang now I need one. Lol. Love your videos
I have Loved a PB and dill pickle sandwich since I was a teen. I used smooth peanut butter .
Simple is good!
My Aunt likes a sweet pickle and peanut butter sandwich, but the smooth peanut butter
Tomato and mayo sandwiches were a staple growing up 😊
My late husband's family does mayo and banana, sometimes they add peanut butter to it.
Tomato and cucumber sounds nice and refreshing! Everyone is posting such creative sandwich ideas! Thanks for sharing!
When I was a kid, (Im 72), my dad would make elbow noodles mixed with cottage cheese and ketchup!!
Try a peanut butter & tomato sandwich. It is so good when tomatoes are in season. Don't knock it till you try it. Yum
My mom grew up in depression and still ate mayo/peanut butter sandwiches. I ate mustard and onion sandwiches after school in the 70's
Since I never liked meat, my mom would pack in my lunch cheese & mayo sandwiches or peanut butter and honey sandwiches
I love peanut butter and honey! It's just got an extra special flavor. Better than jelly in my opinion. I've never had just a cheese and mayo sandwich. Sounds good. ❤️
I used to take peanut and honey sandwiches to work. Think I will start again. Thanks for sharing
Love peanut butter and honey

I love tomato & mayo sandwiches in the summer

@frugallydelicious he would do it as a cold cut but I think that was mainly because he wouldn't cook! 😆
I grew up on peanut butter and mayo sandwiches. More mayo makes it a bit less dry. Plus something to wash it down. I still eat them at times
I've had onion sandwichs all my life. Always raw and with butter and bread.
For the 1st sandwich you are missing the banana between the mayo and peanut butter...try it... yummy 😋🤤
We used to eat PB, mayo and lettuce. Adds crunch and moisture
A few folks have mentioned this combination. I might need to try it...
OMG you should try radish sandwich with tomato onion and mayo. loved the as a kid @ grams house
My hubby eats bologna and peanut butter sandwiches sometimes with a slice of American cheese. I can't do it, but it was one of his family's "fend for yourself" meals as a kid.😊
I don't think I could do it. I agree with you. I'm trying to picture all the tastes together on bread and no, it's not moving me 😊
Oh wow, I just saw a comment above that said they also mixed bologna and pb...I also couldn't do it 😂
When my mom was a child for a treat, they would wet a slice of white bread with water and then sprinkle it with sugar. Fairy bread in the UK is white bread butter and sprinkles, the kind you put on cakes. The colorful ones or chocolate sprinkles. Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches are my favorite! I grew up eating them. ❤
What kind of pickles do you use...that matters? 😊
I grew up eating peanut butter, mayo, and iceberg lettuce. It's good! I don't know why the iceberg between the pb and mayo makes such a difference, but it does. :)
My grandpa makes a butter and onion sandwich with almost every meal
We love sliced tomato and onion on cornbread made like pancakes.
This sounds good! Do you add any melted butter on top?
I've eaten PB & pickle. But always dill.
My dad loved pb and pickle sandwiches but he used sweet pickles I"m pretty sure.
Good video and enjoyed your fans comments 👍.
Banana between the mayo and peanut butter helps.
My thoughts exactly!
I love Mayo, peanut butter sandwiches with lettuce and a slice of bologna
I actually like the peanutbutter and mayo😂. I tried it years ago cause i saw someone make it. Though I like with onion better. The tomatoe and mayo always reminds me of Harriet the spy. My great grandmother used to eat peanut butter & onion sandwiches. I'm guessing that was another depression era sandwich, but I can't imagine trying that now. 🤢
That is an interesting one for sure! Lol. I don't think I would try it either.
It's actually very good 👍😊
Peanut butter and strawberry jam, peanut butter and honey
I loved it as a small child and still love to eat a peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich lol lotta other people I had a banana to it too
Peanut butter, Mayo and dill pickles.

oh! That's a great comb idea! I've got to try this because I love tangy foods! Thank you!
❤
My Friend eats Peanut butter and Mayo Sandwiches all the time.
Add refried beans to a grilled cheese. 😀
Now we're talking! This idea is right up my alley! thanks for the idea!

Wow, those are some interesting variations! I'm so glad to be sharing these recipes to keep them alive.
The 2nd one was margarine + sugar. I just meant no cinnamon or toasting.
Peanut butter lettuce and mayo
I like pickles and peanut butter together but not on bread
My Mom had those same Corelle Dishes. The English still eat cucumber & onion sandwiches and Also bake bean sandwiches. I live in the Mid South. @@frugallydelicious Yes. Please
My 9yo son is the king of weird sandwiches. His current fav is salami, peanut butter and cheese. So gross 😂
LOLs 😂
LOL
