Peruvian paddle and anvil bowl

  • Rob learned this fun method for making bowls from Kate Tremel, the original founder of Good Dirt. She learned in Peru from a traditional potter. You will make a thick bowl either by pinching or wheel throwing and as the piece dries, you will paddle the walls thinner by compressing the clay between the paddle on the outside and an earthenware anvil on the inside.

    Out here in califorina we also did the paddle and anvil I also found variations of this technique from the Philippines and Africa.
