Why I Sold My Game Collection

- No, seriously, it's not clickbait. Over the past year and some, roughly 90% of it has been sold - with downsizing really hitting a critical point lately since we're moving to Germany!
And yeah, SWP is going away at the end of the year...kind of. TL;DW - I'm retiring the channel. I use the term "retiring" instead of "quitting" just to leave things open if I have any future video ideas for here. But I'm shifting Patreon to focus more on the Speedrun podcast and putting my time more towards settling into my new job and home in Germany with my husband! Not to mention, but I've been slacking on some of my other hobbies as well and would love to get back into them (D&D comes to mind).
Thank you all for over six years of support. I'm really proud of this little community we've built here!

Hey everyone!
Not to spoil the video in the pinned comment, but here's kind of a TL;DW summary.
To start: I'm qutting UA-cam!
Well, kind of.
I'm retiring my channel. I use "retiring" in lieu of "stopping", "axeing", or "giving the old yeller treatment" because I'm stopping making new videos for a positive reason. I'm honestly really proud of a lot of the content I've made over the past six-ish years, and I'm really happy you've all come along with me for the ride, no matter how long you've been here!
By "retiring" the channel, I mean I'm not going to focus on making content for my personal projects anymore, but may still pop in whenever I get the itch. And that's because I now have a wonderful new job as a video producer - one that's involved me moving all the way to Germany!
And Germany, for the few weeks we've been here so far, is beautiful. Our city is incredible and surprisingly chill and very queer-friendly (and, before anyone asks, no it's not Berlin).
I want to spend my free time focusing on spending time with my amazing husband, hanging out with the friends we have here, and even getting back into some of my other hobbies (D&D comes to mind)!
In addition, I'd love to put out more episodes of Speedrun when I get the chance, and definitely have a few other projects in the works I'm looking forward to sharing. And I do have one more SWP project in the works - the Art of Failure finale, which should be out either this month or next month!
So even if I'm not going to be using the Stuff We Play banner a lot anymore, this isn't goodbye. It's just "until next time"!

P.S. I know I said the AOF finale would be out in December 2022 in the video (which I recorded about a month ago) but, uh, moving has been rather hectic. I'm thinking about for sure pushing back to January. At least past the 18th at that, just so I can say my UA-cam channel outlived Google Stadia.

good on you. i used to be an avid collector too but once you come to grips with it all essentially ending up as land fill then the allure really loses it's luster

On the one side it's sad to hear the channel is going into hiatus, on the other I respect your decision, and more importantly I appreciate you being upfront about it, and respecting your viewership enough to not force yourself to keep up with the channel when it would be impossible to balance it with your personal and professional life.

This sounds very similar to what I did as well. While working in an animation studio I had an amazing collection of figurines, toys and lego stuff all over my desk, essentially going for the whole 'self-expression boosts productivity' dynamic.
But once lockdown hit and I had to bring it all home in three or four big boxes, it only hit me then how much money I had invested into that collection and how it started to feel like hoarding more than anything. Of course, over the two and a half years since I had sold or gotten rid of most of it so now that I'm working in studio again, the only decoration I have on my desk is a framed drawing of Danger Mouse a friend of mine did.
While it felt like a sense of youth had been lost, that was ok. It just means that you change and adapt as life goes on and you want to move onto other interests and hobbies.
In short, I have mad respect for how you were able to part from such an incredible collection of video game paraphernalia in such a mature way.

Honestly, the fastest way to move it is to find someone willing to buy in bulk. Even if you take a little less than you'd originally want (though, by no means firesale it), moving a bunch at once via Marketplace or Kijiji is a big help with the stress of it all

It's been quite a while since I have interacted, but I do still watch. Proud to see how far you have come, the documentaries, that podcast we did a while ago, the retrospectives, covering consoles or games it feels like no one ever covers.
