Aww, she is precious. Parents need to think before buying their children a pet. Some kids are responsible and some are not. If the kid doesn’t want the animal, parents should step up and care for them. Animals have feelings too. They are not trash.

I agree, then can throw away a toy but not a living creature. What kind of parents are they, what kind of education are they able to give to those children?

@@susanaandress4653 I agree. Maybe a good thing to do is talk with a child and see if they even want a pet. Some kids don’t. And if they say they do and they are given one, they should be made to fulfill their responsibility. But my only worry with that would be, how would the poor animal be treated. Worst case scenario, find them a new loving home like this sweet bunny got.

Dad brought me a bunny, Thumper, left the same way. His neighbors had him outside in a raised pen and got bored so they opened the door and pretended he didn't exist. Ignorant people thought he could survive like wild rabbits do. I took him for a month when we found him a new home. Smart as a whip. Taught him the same basic commands as a dog. We had a precious little bunny named Thumper. She lived to be nearly 13 years old which is twice their normal expectancy! She was a Polish Dwarf and about 2 pounds in her prime. We took her everywhere and loved her to pieces. She died in my arms and I miss even after nearly 20 years. We bought her for our daughter who was 11 at the time and figured based on the info we had that she would probably live to about the age our daughter would leave for college (Our daughter tried to take her to college but got busted!!). So we took over her care. She loved going to the beach, was very tidy and hygienic, would jump up in our laps, loved her food and treats, ran around skipping and jumping - even after she became blind, she would tear through the house. She sure loved her life and she made our lives better!

Bunnies really are wonderful, I had a bonded pair for 12 years, they were so cute snuggling with eachother. The girl was pretty grumpy towards me, but the boy was a complete love bug and loved to give me kisses. I spent hours searching for herbes outside and washing them for them, but it was worth it because they got very old. The girl died first, and I spent the last year taking extra good care of the elderly male bunny with special needs. Even had to bathe him often because he was no longer able to clean himself properly. But I loved every second and he was so grateful. He loved it when I kissed his ears and wanted to be pet for hours. In return he licked every millimeter of my arm 🙂 Oh I still miss them...

Sometimes it's even worse and the kid had 0 interest in the pet to start with, the adult just got it in their head a bunny is a good easter gift, like some idiots think chicks are also good holiday gifts.
If the kid's actually SERIOUS about owning an animal, you'll know. They'll bring back a book that explains the animal's basic care from their school or local library, they'll show you youtube videos about that animal's care by people who have them, they'll have websites from hobbyists bookmarked and they'll be able to get you a checklist for a "starter kit" of things to buy that animal to start with (if not outright the permanent commitment setup).
Kids are just as enthusiastic about things they REALLY want as any adult nerd, it's not hard to know if the kid is going to get bored of an animal or they just want something cute and you should just get them a plush toy or a statue of the critter.

I love my buns. They're so relaxing to watch, because everything they do (grooming, sleeping, eating, yawning) is adorable. Every part of them is adorable. Yes, they're not the easiest pet to take care of. And it's something you have to think about before adopting any pet: can you manage taking care of them, spend that time, effort and money.
I will also add: bunnies are a lot more interesting and fun if you let them roam free inside. A bunny that's kept inside a tiny cage his or her entire life, I'm sure will be boring to look at, because they're depressed as hell. Let it roam, and watch it zoom, and flop, and hop. Do hide your cables though. They're obsessed with cables, the forbidden straw.

@@lisabelle7553 Funny you mention that. My parents were masters of the "Your pet: ran away, went to a farm" , etc. stories.
However, the local paper actually ran a story on my rabbit at the zoo, with photos, and the story of how he got there. If I didn't see it, I would have been very skeptical.

I hate when parents buy a rabbit for their kids, rabbits scare very easily and some hate to be picked up. Out of all my rabbits, only one of them enjoyed a cuddle.

This is exactly how I like to see bunnies, in a good loving home with lots of freedom, it’s not easy, they need a lot of cleaning out and grooming. Kids definitely would get bored and it’s not fair on the bunnies. Bunny’s should definitely not be housed in hutches in the sun or the cold. They need plenty of space to run and jump. And to be safe from all predators. This lady here is one excellent carer , these bunny’s are in heaven .👍🐰🐰🐰🐰🥒🥬🍓🍌🍓🫑🥦🌽🍏🍉

Jenny, thank you so much for taking in this little angel. So fortunate that you were able to take her as people still believe that animals are disposable. Animals are not gifts that should be given to kids.
Children are not capable of caring for themselves let alone a pet. I'm sorry to be on my soapbox but this is infuriating. Adults need to understand that they may be left with caring for the animal before considering having one enter their homes. Hopefully people learn. Too many sad stories of abandonment. Animals have no choice or voice in this matter as they are innocent bystanders. This story ended very beautifully. Thank you for the love and kindness you provided to this gentle sweetheart.

What a precious angel this bunny is. I do remind everybody to show love to the world and adopt your local bun bun when you get the chance. At the very least please try to foster from your local animal shelter and give space to others in the meantime before a permanent home is found.
